Batman: Under the Red Hood

Blood Spectre

Just finished watching this on my PS3. Although Hamill and Conroy are not in it, that's the *only* slightly (slightly, as the actors playing Bats and Joker did a damn good job) negative thing I can say about it.

Stop reading this and go watch it.

Well... not owning a PS3, I shall get back to you on the 27th on this issue...

Saw.

It's pretty good. Better than I had been expecting. Some characterizations and voices were a little off, but for the most part it was quite enjoyable.

Heh, and I don't even particularly like Jason.

Had me a nice viewing as well.

Much more action-y than I thought it was going to be, but wow, it was awesome.

And very... very... violent. o__o

But surprisingly bloodless. Which kinda made the violence feel weird.

What movie were you watching when that guy's head ended up......... all over that wall? :P

Even Jason was surrounded by blood at the start (though hard to see).

Yeah, but actually look at Jason. No bruising. No blood on him.

Joker later on? No bruising. No blood.

None of the really violent parts (such as that assassin you mention) were shown, but were done partially offscreen. And the fightings/beatings that are shown, there's no damage really displayed.

EDIT: Just rewatched the opening. There's a very minor bit of bruising and a cut lip. Not a whole lot for all that beating.

Yeah...considering he'd just taken a beating with a crowbar, he's in remarkably good shape. Even his body after the explosion was pretty open-casket worthy.

One of the reasons I like anime is that you always see maiming and blood when appropriate. Even in stuff that's meant for 'kids'. What is wrong with American animators?

That aside, I really enjoyed this flick. DC seems to be on a roll with its animated movies of late.

Are you serious?

This is one of those times I'm glad I'm not American...no offense to my fellow forumites.

i gotta say...it wasn't as good as i had hoped it would be...and it's mainly due to the "set up" parts of the movie... maybe it was retconned in the arc in the comics but it really annoys me that Jason loses the nobility factor that even when he was near death, without the bomb, he still tried to save his mother from the bomb when he died.

Jokers voice is meh. It hints at being inspired more by Ceasar Romero's version than the other's, but it was overall too gruff.

One of the things that really annoyed me, and may this is just my pet peeve, but they once again put a pre-Tim Drake Robin in the red/yellow/black costume and this time I feel it is worse because a number of people who saw the previews thought "yay Tim's gonna be in this" and they show Jason in the old costume...oh and not to mention the upgrading of the suit between these two variations was because of this event so it doesn't make sense to have Jason wearing it...

other than that i think it's a pretty good movie with a few good jokes, mainly that came from Dick and Jason.

The reason *I think* they did that (change the suit) is that they didn't want to show Joker beating a child mostly to death. That means they needed to age up Jason a bit, and the classic Robin outfit looks *really really* creepy on someone that's pretty much a grown man. So, change the outfit to something not creepy, yet instantly identifiable as Robin.

This would have captured the same feel without mucking up the Tim timeline.

I really do enjoy that costume, very much so that I was just happy to SEE it, but I agree that that should not have been on Jason.

It's both an insult to Tim and Kon.

The new Robin outfit, with the leggings, is just better looking. All there is to it.

There are a number of other variations that are acceptable and it's an adult themed movie. They don't need to make Jason older than he was. That's a cop out.

Like I said, just a theory, and PG13 isn't R. Beating a *child* to death (in the first 5 mins) would have pushed the rating up, imo. Or, they simply weren't comfortable with showing that...also aging him up fit into the Red Hood storyline, with out having an unexplained gap in time for dead kid Jason to turn in to resurrected adult Jason.

Also, even when done by the same company, movie continuity != comic continuity

What are you talking about?

Jason was 14 when he became Robin, 16 when he died.
This would have placed him at the age of 21 when he returned, Dick 25, Tim 17, and Bruce 40ish.

This is the same in both the comic and movie.

There is no need for the change and it's a detriment to his story as well as future stories so they're just shooting themself in the foot with it.
