This is the same in both the comic and movie.

There is no need for the change and it's a detriment to his story as well as future stories so they're just shooting themself in the foot with it.

The flashbacks of Jason as Robin (ex, the Riddler scene) was NOT a 14 year old. That was a prepubescent child....*maybe* 12 at the oldest. He looked about 16-18 when he was killed in the movie. Haven't read Death in the Family in a long time, but 16 seems roughly right from what I remember for his age when he was killed.

Yo can't say with certainty what their ages were in the movie...as they never explicitly state them, so they have to go with the way things looked, as far as the ratings and what they were comfortable showing.

At the end of the day, overall the movie was excellent. I'm fine with what Timm and Co. put out.

I agree that part of this is due to certain laws in regards to how kids are portrayed in animation in the states. Remember the changes they had to do to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker after it was pre-screened and there was some "parental upheaval" over what Joker was shown to have done to young Tim Drake in the flash back and what Tim ended up doing to the Joker? It was then changed so that Joker was accidentally electrocuted vs. Tim shooting the Joker.

So showing a kid Robin being beaten to a pulp by Joker with a crowbar likely wouldn't fly too well with certain laws and restrictions. Also showing the damage from said crowbar to Robin and later the Joker also likely wouldn't fly too well with the laws of the land.

Also way back in the comics before Death in the Family, Jason was showing signs of being a bit ruthless and there was story where Jason confronted a member of a crime family that hurt a friend of his. We then see the person take a swan dive off the roof before Batman arrives on the scene and it was never to this day clarified if Jason sent the guy off the roof. Jason told Batman that he (jason) scared the guy so much that he slipped, and then stated something about it being no big loss to society that the person was dead.

In Under the Red Hood movie we also see Jason using excessive force against someone and arguing with Batman about it later.

So while his dunking in the Lazarus Pit didn't help in terms of his overall sanity, I suspect that in the comics now and this movie we are seeing the real Jason Todd. Jason basically now has all the training of Batman plus whatever else he has received, an arsenal of gadgets, and the ruthlessness of the Punisher.

picked up the dvd earlier in the day, overall I thought it was pretty good, though Joker's VA took some getting used to, his initial impact was "meh" but it sounded better as you saw him later on in the movie.

Though I understand the watering down of Jason's beating in the beginning of the movie...but his VA sounded really bored every time he got hit with the crowbar. You're not gonna be letting out some gentle sounding "ugh" and "ah" you will be screaming till you can't scream anymore...his face should of been all kinds of messed up/broken...

I just finished watching it, that is probably my new favorite DC Animated Movie.

The showdown at the end with the Red Hood and Batman had me sitting literally on the edge of my seat when he gave Batman the ultimatum.

I really didn't think he could pull it off but I also thought John DiMaggio's Joker was really good. It reminded me more of the Ledger-Joker moreso than the Hamill-Joker, which isn't a bad thing.

Also they had Bruce Timm voice the Riddler (which is very awesome) and Neil Patrick Harris as Nightwing.

Very good movie, if you havn't watched it then yet go watch it and the only thing I thought was lacking was no Tim Drake..but that's just cause I love Tim Drake.

I liked the movie a lot. And I thought Bender's Joker was excellent.

I like Jensen Ackles as Jason Todd too. They even put him in a version of his Supernatural car.

Bought it, saw it, and loved it. I would say that this movie is just as good as Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The only 2 nitpicks I had with this film is one the intro were Joker beats Jason. Mostly the lack of any actual damage such as sevre bruising and bleeding. As pointed out by others this is rated PG13 and that showing the actual beating of a child, regardless of age, is a no no for US standards.

The other is the scene were Joker is about to torch Black Mask and his gang inside the truck. That whole scene, to me, didn't have that Joker style to it. It was more like what a sociopath would do

Yes but as Joker is a blank slate that can be played into any form of crazy, it works. It kind of reminded me of both Nicholson-Joker and Ledger-Joker.

Completely agree.

Finally got to see it on XBL. Aside from the lack of Conroy and Hamill, the only thing that I didn't like was the design of the Batmobile. Then again, I haven't really liked a Batmobile since the original TAS one. Also, NPH is usually awesome, but his take on Nightwing just didn't work for me.

I did, however, like older Jason's Robin suit. It was a nice in-between-Dick-and-Tim costume. Still had some green on it, but the amount of red and the shade of green made it appear similar to Tim's version.

Overall it was a pretty good movie, but I still rank MotP and BB:RotJ above it.

Saw this the other day with my son, and we both loved it! My favorite part was when the car gets thrown at Batman, and I was expecting him to leap out of the way. I giggled like a little girl when he jumped through the passenger window, through the car and out the driver's window and attacked the guy who threw it. Awesome!

DiMaggio just became my favorite Joker.
