I think it's time to retire the "Marketing is EVIL!" joke, as some folks are taking it a bit too seriously.

Something needs to be the root of all evil The choice was either marketing or ponies [Yes ponies are evil!]

Not arguing the others, though I'd probably add ToGf and maybe KI:U to that list.
Okay I'm completely lost on what games you're referring to because I was assuming "a certain sequel to a certain fantasy mmo" was referring to GW2, which is an NCSoft title, likely something that would clash with another NCSoft product and affect sales.

I googled those acronyms and found no games at all. for the sake of my sanity please enlighten me.

While I agree the costume slots are way overpriced even at the 600 point "sale", I can honestly say from a programming and policy perspective that pricing costume slots on a per-character basis is a recipe for disaster. Personally, I think the costume slots should be 200-400 Paragon Points/slot. I also think the enhancement trays should be capped at 400 Paragon Points instead of the ridiculous 1,600 Paragon Points.

Okay, that is actually Black Pebble's responsibility.

Again, this is Ghost Falcon, not Black Pebble.

I guess it didn't help that I was one of the ones that hung the "Evil Eye" nickname on Ross Borden after the 2007 Bay Area M&G.

I still feel sorry for Castle after that night.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

If that's a direct quote from Zwillinger, then according to Snow Globe's scale, we should see Issue 22 in "Around a week to two weeks away. Often accompanied with a hint in meme form referencing the thing that's coming."

You mean like for an Issue with new Dark powers you use a picture from The Dark Knight?

Actually his words were somewhere between "Very Soon™" and "Imminent™".

Ok I probably got to angry and rantish but it's just really maddening sometimes. It's not just Black Pebble it's the whole marketing department and all the marketing department for ncsoft for that matter I just hate them lol.

I love super heroes with a passion ok anything with super powers and a good story I'm in to. Same with super hero game will give almost any a shot as long as I have the platform for it(sometimes even buy a system for 1 game). Why didn't I hear about COH till 4 years into it's lifespan? Or other NCsoft games EXsteel I would have loved to play but sadly didn't hear about it till it was shut down and I saw so many other posters who said the exact same thing I did. Tabula Rasa ditto. It's like they think all you have to do is make a game and release it and people will be aware of it's presence.

So in end I really really love this game it might be my favorite ever I just think marketing department does it a great injustice and sometimes I have the need to rage at them and Black Pebble just gave me a name to point a finger at is all even if it isn't his fault.

But seriously though, I've had a problem w/ their marketing for a while myself, but I would never wish for anyone to lose their job, that's just childish imo. I've seen maybe one ad for this game on another website and it was just cringe worthy to me. I'm pretty sure any one of us could make a better promo banner that's just as simple as the one I saw with a plain, all yellow character with the the pre-made Medieval costume set...

FYI: The Marketing department is not responsible for the prices on the Market. The group that is responsible for the prices is the Business Management group, led by Ghost Falcon.

Marketing is tasked with taking the items and making them look attractive enough to buy. In other words, the market newsletters.

Again, I'm all for getting annoyed with the company for their mistakes. Just try to blame the right people. It tends to be more effective that way.

Yeah, i think he's been told that multiple times... See, when some people decide to blame and/or hate a group for some perceived wrong it doesn't matter how many times they're told that the group has nothing to do with the thing that pissed them off. Hell, even if they refocus some of their vitriol on those actually culpable they'll still insist the first group is THAT WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL EVIL AND MUST BE DESTROYED regardless of all info to the contrary. A sort of cognitive inertia.

i call it "being a bit of a thick."

Still, at least he's not the twit who was in the last supah-sekrit closed beta that promptly started spamming the public boards with info from the beta because some goobers were loudly arguing about inaccurate speculations regarding what was in the beta. That was a truly remarkable level of dumb that makes this seem minor in comparison.

I'm thinking that's more NCSoft's advertising budget, and we're currently below Guild Wars 2, Lineage 2 F2P, and Aion F2P.

Why did the rest of us hear about it? Dont put the blame purely on NCSoft

To be honest, i was *lucky* to hear about CoX.... i heard about it from a Co-worker of mine, and a gaming magazine carried 1 (yes 1) single page advert/spread in each of the 2 issues up to launch (which if you were not paying attention, you could easily miss anyway. As far as i can remember, there were no "LOOK AT ME ON THE FRONT COVER" kinda things. (side note: however, they did give away trial accounts at one point a few years later on a cover disc!)

They then mentioned *nothing* of it for a few months, until CoV was in the launch window.... and then coverage stopped again.

And I live in the UK... so being Euro based made it a bit harder to track down, especially if you were *not* a huge gamer/visited comic book stockists on a regular basis etc etc

*shrugs*

Nowadays with twitter/facebook/social networking, stuff spreads so fast it is unbelievable. Back then, it was still pretty slow.
