Do you remember the first time?
Scythus was my first; he's a Dark/Dark corruptor. Naturally, I still play him quite regularly and he was my second 50 (a Mercs/Pain mastermind by the name of Mistress Bloodwrath who's another favorite of mine beat him to 50 by a couple of weeks).
My first character, Birdy, was an Inv/SS Tanker. I wasn't actually interested in Inv/SS though. I created the character just to try out the game mechanics. Super Strength was a pretty wimpy powerset at the time, and Invulnerability's Unyielding Stance actually immobized you when you toggled it on. I also meant to try out flight with that character, and Foot Stomp and Hurl don't work when flying. Birdy was meant to be a very temporary character. I just wanted something straightforward and very survivable to start with.
I went on to try out a variety of archetypes and power sets, and settled on an Ice/Ice Blaster as my favorite. Still, a number of power changes made Birdy into a viable character, and she eventually reached level 50.
My first was a Gravity/Force Shield Controller named Kinetos with a pretty cool looking dark blue/dark purple costume... maybe now with all these new servers at my disposal, I´ll give him a second chance.

ANARCHY = A Society that does not need government
114. Ahrouns do not appreciate my particular brand of humour, so I should stop bleaching bulls-eyes in their fur.
My first was Arken Shatterfist a katana/super reflexes Scrapper. She still exists today... although she's been deleted and re-started... er.. several times.
My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw
My first character was an AR/energy blaster by the name of Gunbunny Bleu. She was cute, she was fun, and I haven't touched her in years, but she's still sitting on Freedom.
I started when CoV came out and a few friends of mine who were simply creating a bunch of trial accounts to play CoH 'demanded' that I try out this 'bestest amazingful game of all time known and unknown'.
I couldn't really refuse that. I mean, really.
First character, I'm not too sure. But I remember three characters being what you could call your 'mains' back then.
-A Ice/Cold corroptor, who was the first character that I deleted among the trio.
-A Bots/FF mastermind. As you can imagine, it was very boring most of the time. The rest of the time, I just had a new pet this very level and was flying around Cap towards my next mission! Only to look at my bots do the work on their own.
-And an Energy/Regen stalker. the 'pink blow of death' was the original idea, or something along those lines. It worked till the 30s, then I left her in the dust until I came back, years later, to delete her along with my bots/FF MM.
Once I had cleansed my character list of those foul creatures, I made a Stone/Stone brute... who didn't make it to 20.
The new one was a keeper though. A fire/thermal corruptor. Got her to 50, by that time, my old friends stopped playing.
Then I made a widow and a soldier. The widow made it to 50, the soldier is, to this day, still sitting in her 40s.
Well, after that I took a break and came back (again) a few years later.
And here I am
I'm pretty sure my first, years and years ago, was Commander Ray. AR/Dev blaster who never really hit off all that well despite what I thought was a fun concept: Retired police officer with a machinegun and an old evidence locker full of goodies. I re-rolled him a couple times but in the end I wound up deleting and never re-using the concept.
I do have a few oldies from my first real creative spurt and the one I still treasure the most is the ChernobylCheerleader. She's one my 50s and really the first character I 'got'. It was with her that I broke through the PuG mental barrier and discovered the joys of teaming. It also helped that as a rad/rad defender, she was useful in ways other than shooting Skuls, which was a pretty awesome revelation at the time.
My first char was an Invuln/ SS tank. I still play her. She's my only Incarnate. I also have a tremendous amount of fiction written about her.
Est sularis oth Mithas
I kind of rambled a bit more than I expected, but I had fun thinking back, so I kept at it.
StratoNexus is a Grav/Storm controller and my first character as well as my first 50 (he has been through 3 APPs, Primal then Ice and is currently Psi). I don't play him a lot anymore, I get my stormy fix from my Demon MM nowadays.
My first scrapper (and 2nd character) is Celeste Cat, Kat/Inv/Body. I normally play her a lot, although she hasn't seen much activity the past month. I play her mostly for a tanking thrill, although her damage is not terrible.
My first blaster is Betty Sizzle, my Fire/Fire/Flame blaster. If I have a main, this is it. She was very fun to play up until about level 25. From 25-30 I was really displeased with her. The Issue 5 blaster changes breathed new life into her for me. Extra HPs and Defiance were a joy for me. She has been through several builds, although her current one has been pretty static since Issue 9 (for inherent fitness, I just added Hover, Fly and Weave back into the build, all of which had been part of her original concept, but I had to lose at various times due to build constraints). She has 3 travel pools, Leaping, TP, and Fly. She has had Fighting since her conception (and once I got high enough level to take it). I only have 4 powers from the primary. She lives in melee, having both damage auras, even though I always recommend skipping Blazing Aura for its many flaws. She is my go to toon for new high level content.
My first character on a different server (I logged in one day to the horror of Guardian being down) was a DM/Inv scrapper. It sat at level 6 for many, many years, but 2 years ago it got some playtime and made it into the 20s. Name - Serv Down
My first Tanker is a Fire/Ice/Earth tanker I made to try out the herd and burn playstyle popular in Issue 3. I made it into the 20s mostly street hunting with friends, herding in Boom and then TV. Sadly, I found I much preferred mission team tanking to that playstyle (although I guess it turned out to be good, since the aggro cap killed that style). I mixed my leveling after that mostly teaming and occasionally dropping into TV, then Bricks and Creys for some herd and burn (trying to stay true to his reason for creation). Ultima Fiero is still with inherent fitness, because I can't decide what I want to do with his build. He is still great fun and my only tanker on Guardian.
My first defender was a Kin/Elec I made on Protector to join a friend who was new to the game (early 2005). He switched to Guardian once he found out where we were all playing. That defender sat at level 5 for years, but about 2 years ago saw some playtime and is now in the 20s. However, I did remake him on Guardian in spring 2005 and he was my first 50 defender. Silveron is a Kin/Elec/Mace and one of my favorite characters.
Sarah Caste is my Dark/Dark/Mu corruptor. I like her, but she only gets rare playtime as I prefer my other buff/debuff characters. She was my 1st villain made, but my 2nd lvl 50 villain.
My 2nd villain made and first 50 is Teh Gank, an Nrg/Regen/Mace stalker. I made him to street hunt and PvP. I leveled primarily hunting to 15 (with a few scanners for the temps) then running missions in PvP zones and hunting in PvP zones. 40-50 I ran Grandville, since I liked the look of a lot of those contacts. I don't get to play him much; I prefer to team with him, but always feel guilty bringing him, because he is a less than stellar contributor (I shouldn't feel that way, since the game is not that hard, but I do).
My 3rd villain was my first Brute, SS/EA/Soul, Maximum Pain. I used to joke that was his name because that is what he received. He languished over the years, getting rare playtime. Brutes are not my cup of tea, I'd rather make a scrapper or tanker. However, over the last year I managed to get him to 50 and IO him out (Issue 19 breathed new life into him). Now he sees more playtime than my Fire/Ice tanker. I was late to adapting him to the I13 IO changes and the EA buffs, but he is very fun.
Captain Cassie, my first MM, is Mercs/Poison. I originally made her on Liberty and ran in a duo with a Bots/Traps. It was pretty fun and we were a good combination. We made it into the mid-20s when I lost interest. I eventually got her into the late 20s some months later. During the first free transfers, I moved her to Guardian, hoping that would revive her, but I had real issues with playing redside (mostly the anemic market). She saw some playtime late I19 and as a break from trials after I20. She is 39 and I will slowly play her to 50.
My first HEAT is a human form Warshade, Cranky Carl. I hated him until level 22. The first time I ate corpses I giggled maniacally. Ever since then, I love him. I still level him kind of slowly, he usually gets played in spurts. I have his tricked out 50 build made in mids and even have many of the IOs for the build in storage. He is level 47, no rush but will make 50 someday.
My first Dominator was a Grav/Fire, PyroNexus. He made it to level 8. I eventually deleted him to make room on Pinnacle for something I'd actually play.
My first VEAT is a male widow. I really like these powers, but I wish I could choose visuals other than claws attacks. He is level 30 and I have a story path to follow with him, so he will be a slow leveler.
One last first: my first Praetorian is a Fire/Earth/Ice Dominator. The Praetorian version of my Fire/Rad/Earth controller, I kept the same name, Fire Puddles. She is everything I expected her to be. I'd play her more, but generally when I want a Hot Feet fix, Betty wins.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I've always loved ice themed characters in comic books. So when I signed in back when my account was still a trial, my first character was an Ice/Ice blaster, my namesake. He was never rerolled, but I think I did have to respec him about 3 or 4 times between 1 and 50, simply because I was learning more about the game and what I could and could not do.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
My very first character was a Claws/Regen Scrapper in early-ish beta. She didn't get re-made after release. My very first live character was an Emp/Dark Defender, made because 'no one else was making a Defender' and my group 'needed a healer'. Hey, we were used to Holy Trinity MMOs. She's still on my first server, still...35, I believe, and hasn't been logged in in years.
How have I changed? Well, CoV came out.
I didn't know true gaming love - or max any of my characters - until I played a Brute. Brutes are my #1 favorite- and the first redside character I made, Pam Demonium (a DM/Elec Brute), was also my first 50. She does still get played now and then, but the friends I always played her with don't play anymore, so she doesn't get played that often. Not because I dislike her, but simply because it's bittersweet, because doing so makes me think of, and miss, my friends.
My first character was an archery/device blaster as I cam from several free MMOs where I played an archer type character so tried the same here. It didnt get past level 29 as I found him very weak in comparison to other people I teamed with. I deleted him and eventually rolled a energy/energy blaster with the same name who is still played heavily to this day.
Wylde-Fire, my first, was a Grav/FF Controller who is my main character, my first 50, my first Incarnate and my account's Badge Collector boasting some 1030 badges. I think I soloed with him for the first few months I played... he was 17 or so the very first time I teamed. So, now when folks complain about slow leveling, or not being able to solo on a character, I just giggle to myself.
He has gone through a TON of costume changes (His mostly current one is to the right of my symbol in my sig. I say mostly because I just redesigned him again to incorporate some of the new Ascension pieces... and he may well be redesigned again very soon.), and respecs since his creation. And, he may not be the strongest character ever, and he has died so many times I can't even begin to try to estimate a count... but he's my favorite.
My first was Mr. Fate, an FF/Eng defender. Also my highest level when I first quit the game, and only a few levels higher than that in the 4 years I've been back. Though I do have Mr. Fates of all ATs (except Warshade) on other servers now.
@Doctor Gemini
Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.
My first character was my frist 50. Illusion/Rad, soloed till I was in the 20s for the most part. Pre ED, so pre containment, pre IOs...yeah it hurt. But once I was in my mid 30s? I was an AV killing GOD! I still miss those days...
I still have the character. Only character I have Judgement unlocked on, but other than that, I don't play her a lot.
No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.
My very first character never saw much life; spines/regen scrapper. Back in those days spines brought the ugly something fierce, and I just couldn't deal. He still sits on a server, 2600+ days since last login.
2nd was BS/DA scrapper, made a few days later and played into the teens (took forever in those days).
Unsubbed, Resubbed - played a few brutes - unsubbed again.
Resubbed. First 50 was the wm/sd brute, second was the sp/da scrapper and third will probably be the km/regen.
I <3 melee.
My first was my Dark/Dark Defender... and he is still going strong for 7 years and counting
I almost gave up on him not that long ago, but after a name change, respecs and many costume changes later, he is still my main
Started as a Claws/SR scrapper. I still play only melee (Scrappers or Brutes), but Claws/SR is not a combo I would use these days.

This was shortly after launch. I wanted a good soloer, someone who could blast and heal, and thus was born "Penumbris" a Dark/Psy defender, and he was terrible I played him for about 6 months desperately trying to get up to level 14 for a travel power. But I never did, I almost gave up on COH after that, but I tried out a DM/SR scrapper, "Serva Obscura" and I was just grabbing some Ascendant pieces for a new costume a couple of nights ago.
First toon: Mental Giant FF/Psy Defender, still on the roster and alpha-ed out, but I don't play him that much.
Defenders are still one of my favorite ATs, but I also like Stalkers, Warshades & VEATs, and my raiding main is a Blaster.
Agua Man lvl 48 Water/Electric Blaster
"To die hating NCSoft for shutting down City of Heroes, that was Freedom."
My first was MrCaptainMan, en/en Blaster. I remeber thinking that people were crazy to rollup alts when they still had levels to get and story arcs to play on their first toon lol. I thoroughly enjoyed everything he did and met back then. Still do, tbh.
He was my first 50, but long before that I caught altitis. Now I've got 30-odd toons on Freedom, and only 2 50s.

ICE ICE Baby...i mean blaster and a my fav all time toon Magnus V a fire/rad controller. I loved playing Magnus at launch as there just weren't(seemed) any/many trollers out there on the streets. I also remember doing some street sweeping in Bricks...i had about 9 imps out and was casting another set when another fire/rad named Benes came jumping over my wall with his 10ish imps out...we chatted for a bit about our builds...it felt so good to see another fire/rad as i had only ever teamed/seen a earth/emp and ill/rad.
I created 3 characters during my trial period. The first was Golden Avariel who was an electric/electric blaster. I was very bummed when I found out there were no bird wings in the game. It seemed like a terrible oversight. Another veteran player we played with had pity on me and gifted a butterfly wing recipe. I immediately crafted them then hovered my way to the Steel Canyon tailor to put them on... which was also when I discovered you could turn the color copy button off! Wow! I can have more than 2 colors! Fantastic! But not enough money! Had to come back later after a friend who won a lot of costume contests gave me enough influence to cover the fee.
She languished at 29 for a long time because her party fell apart and I kept waiting for them to come back. Once experience control was in the game I exemplared her a lot for the double influence without getting ahead of the others. Man she made a lot of money and found a lot of mid-level salvage. A couple of months ago I finally started playing her again and she made 40 this weekend.
I was first in line to get the valkyrie costume and finally the Avariel had proper wings.
My second character was Shadowguardinal who was a dark/dark tank. It was a hard slog for the first 20 or 25 levels but we eventually got the hang of a tank/controller team and she was my first 50 after a bit less than 2 years. She was also my first incarnate and my only one (of my 4) to have all 5 slots at tier 3 or higher.
I can't say I like blasters more or less than other AT's... I pretty much enjoy them all.
AR/Dev blaster. I got to level 15 then deleted. I hated Teleport and weapon redraw and there was no way to respec characters other than re-rolling.
6 years later I resurrected that character as Traps/AR defender.
