Do you remember the first time?
My first toon was Anchor, a gravity/forcefield controller. Not being a very good manual reader, I went a little crazy with the secondary powersets trying to be a jack-of-all-trades (stuff like Aid Other, for example), and ended up being not much use to groups and not very good at keeping myself alive solo by level 12-15.
Since it was in the days before respec tokens and there was no way he was going to last long enough for a proper respec trial, he ended up being deleted and recreated as a more focused toon.
On Liberty:
Aardwolf - level 50 claws/invulnerability scrapper
Anchor - level 50 level gravity/forcefield controller
Dr. Dusk - level 50 mercenaries/dark miasma mastermind
My first character I ever created was a Dark/Dark Brute!
I had been playing another game for a long while, but then SOmEone destroyed it and I wanted to try the CoV Free Trial.
I wanted to see if I could create a real monster in the costume creator. Some sort of evil creature, bent on malice, to play as a villain.
I created a black shadow demon, of sorts, named Zethustra... Chose the dark powers (decided on Brute over Corrupter, mainly because I figured he should be tough and not squishy).
And it is my global name to this day.
He's been stuck at level 42 for a long while, but I always use him when I am editing my main villain SG Base.
My first character once getting City Of Heroes activated was the Electric-Knight, Elec/Elec Blaster!
It's funny, because both of those sets are a little (or, maybe a lot) different from the rest of the powersets within those ATs. And I really enjoy them all the more for that.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
Amethystine, couple of months afrer launch, still level 8, invul/mace tank.
My second character was a claws/invul scrapper that got to 50 5 years later with 30+ others hitting 50 in between. I play him occasionally.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba
So what was the first character you ever made in CoH, and do you still play them?

I originally decided that there was no one more likely to be wanted on teams than a healer (right?? I know, I know...) so I rolled Trillium, an Emp/Dark version of a very loved Amber Diceless character. She was the original "all heals all buffs no attacks" healer, I'm ashamed to say. She certainly couldn't solo, but my buddy had an NRG blaster and we duoed, making it almost to 40, back in the day when leveling was hard and getting a level a day was godly fast, LOL. Then my buddy got a job, stopped playing much, re-joined the game with his girlfriend, and Trillium sort of got shelved.
I made friends with a guy in an SG I'd joined on an alt, rolled a Dark/Dark defender to duo with him, and woke up to the truth of debuffs > heals. We rocked her to 50, so she was my first, and I respecced Trillium based on what I'd learned from Eidolon, so that her attacks were 6 slotted AND she was still an awesome healer/buffer and could solo.
BTW, the friend I met and duoed Eidolon with has been my best buddy and gaming partner for the past almost 7 years now He was 15 when we met and he's out of college now, and we've played 5 MMOs together... but we still keep coming back here
I still play Trillium - several versions of her, in fact. The defender and widow versions are both 50, and her scrapper version is 38 now
PownUnoobs was a fire/fire blaster. He made it to about 27 I think before he was passed up by my first mastermind. After being taught by a rather kind fellow how to get the most out of the archetype, I absolutely loved having pets. He was my first 50 and I've rolled more MM's than any other AT. My main and favorite toon, however, is a crab spider named Lord Porkluse. I play him as a "crabstermind", so, in a way, he's a hybrid of my first toon and my first 50.
My very first character was technically a test character, an MA/SR scrapper who never made it out of the tutorial. A version/reroll of him lives on as my second "real" character.
My first "real" character, first main and first 50 is the defender you can see in my forum avatar. She, in turn, is based on a Champions (paper and dice) character I came up with almost ten years before. The character's powers fit perfectly into FF/Energy, and she was the obvious choice to begin with; however, the name of the Champs character was already taken, and for that and other reasons I had to make the CoH version a different person. Looking back, I'm glad - it allowed me to root her in this game and world rather than just copying what I'd done before.
I stubbornly soloed her through most of the original story arcs, wanting to see them for myself rather than rushing through with a team. Between that and alt-itis, it took me a year and a half to get her to 50. Worth it.
I still bring her out to team with friends (when she's not battling evil in another dimension), but she's not following the Incarnate path; in my mind, she's "just" a person with super-powers, not a demigod.
Heck, I even remember how excited I was when she got to level 6 and picked up Hover.

Given the incredibly wide range of AT and powerset combinations we have in CoH (it's at what... 600+ now?) I'm curious about what you started off with, and whether your preferences have changed since?
The first character I ever created was a Claws/WP Scrapper - not a Wolverine clone, honest - with a red and black costume and the name Razerz (very 90s Dark Age anti-heroic, I suppose) I didn't stick with her very long, and scrappers are... okay, but by no means my favourite AT. I still like Claws/ though. Finally deleted a few weeks ago, when I was reorganising my character list. So what was the first character you ever made in CoH, and do you still play them? (The inspiration for this thread was me musing about the number of brand new no-vet badge players I see running Dominators, which strike me as the most newbie-unfriendly AT of them all, given how relatively complex they are to play.) |
Anyway, my first character was a Dark/Energy scrapper named Enkil. I got him to all of level 6. My second character, was a Grav/Bubble controller named Bia. I played her all the way up to level 16 before I stopped playing on the server. My third character was a Rad/Rad Defender. He got to level 10 before I recreated him during the move. I liked him the best. He is still my main. I did not delete those three for a few years. So, there you go my first 4 (well, 3 and a half) characters.

My first character was a Fire/Fire Tank named Fire Ranger. Still have him. He's on Zukunft. He's lvl 6.

original beta and carried over into the live game release way back when.
He hit L50 in I-3, and I still have him, and his original SO build.
When dual builds came out, I made his second build with Frankenslotted IO's,
and I still play him occasionally on that build, and have started him (albeit
slowly) down the Incarnate path.
While I have many other L50 toons, including some that have opened up all
the Incarnate slots, with T3/T4 goodies in them, I still enjoy flying the original
FourSpeed around now & then.
Cheers,

My first hero was a rebirth of a Champions PnP game called Shocker (had to use Shocker Reloaded). He's a 50 Blaster now, Nrg/Elec. The only toon I would do a Powerset Respec on if we had them...as an Elec/Elec. Still love to play him too.
My first villian (and first CoH toon) was a SS/Invul Brute named Total Violence. Still one of my fave toons.
Both have tons of history and background and my story in the CityScoop was about Total Violence.
The powers and stuff are all cool but it's the RP and background that keep me coming back.
"Comics, you're not a Mastermind...you're an Overlord!"
Empathy/Radiation Defender. I can't remember her name. I made a power choice mistake around level 20 and with no option to respec in those days I ended up deleting her.
First character ever was a Claws/SR Scrapper, made just after the first or second issue. At the time, both of these powersets were at the lower tier in terms of performance, and there were no respecs. I didn't really care, though. I just wanted to make Natural-style Ninja-type character.
The character had jump kick, because I thought it sounded really cool on paper. In practice... not so much. The character also lacked both Focus and Quickness, because they didn't sound all that cool. It was terrible.
I stalled at around level 33. Kept the character for years, even though the sets were still bad and I was having a lot more fun with other ATs. Eventually, I decided that they would always underperform and I needed the slot, so I deleted him. A week later, they announced buffs to both SR and Claws.
I was so mad.
The Ballad of Iron Percy
invul/ss made in beta and re-created on opening day. Later deleted and remade as a ss/invul brute. Still have a earth/kin and emp/ele made on opening day, although the later has been semi-retired and replaced with a re-rolled emp/dp.
The emp is my main and the troller just hit 50 last month, so my playstyle hasn't changed much at all.
