Obscure things you may not know about playing the game

Ah... gotta love removing the level restrictions on basically all the zones! The first thing I did when I heard about the removal of level restrictions on hazard zones was to see if I could get to RWZ (I was rather shocked that a level 18 Ill/Rad Troller could tank a spawn of 35+ Rikti for so long... then I remembered PA )
* A costume tailor is available in the RWZ, which can be accessed directly by a level 1 character from Atlas Park. People though still make the trek to Steel Canyon. * Invention tables are in the RWZ, which allows a level 1 character to craft things without going to Steel Canyon. [...] * A flight pack can be purchased for 10,000 influence by a level 1 character either by the Arbiter in Grandville or in Fire Base Zulu via the Portal Corporation. Both are reachable by a level 1 character, and will grant a character a travel power at level 1. The flight pack lasts 90 mins. |

The moon doesn't revolve around the Earth in the Paragon Universe in the same direction. It rises in the north and sets in the south.
And I would LOVE to see the backstory on that little tidbit.

This is a cool list and I certainly learned a couple things from it. Though I feel like a lot of it is more common knowledge than some might think.

However the things I quoted above, to be fair, are really only very recently possible. Before the removal of zone caps as a part of Super Side Kicking, Level ones couldn't go to RWZ or FBZ.
Still a very cool list, we should keep adding to it.
Also I had no idea about the moon, that's strange. Wonder if that's why their are so many attacks by zombies, the moons all out of whack.

They should make a moon zone to explain this. *nods sagely*

"With Me - Against Me" Mission Arc 230667
For new players:
* Doing Radio/Newspaper missions with the same foes as a "Defeat X amount" count towards them in that mission. (this is good for the costume slot missions)
I'm pretty sure Trina and the Tiki Room is only accessible to people with the VIP Pass.

* You can mission drop the door mission given to you by Coyote in the tutorial, and still get to level 2 and your choice of destination to either Atlas Park or Galaxy City. Presumably, you can do the same thing with the Arachnos Pilot during the villain tutorial.

Absolutely, I've done it many times.

Well, now we know what the coming storm is! We've only got a bit more than 2 years until the moon crashes into the earth! I don't suppose the game designers knew about that, but there *is* a reason we don't see satellites with polar orbits in the solar system...

There's a Midnighter Store?
That, and War Witch in Pocket D being a trainer (which would be new) are the two things I didn't know, myself. Handy!
I should probably note that there's an easy way to get your Aura and third costume slot almost without hunting anything. The Aura requires that you hunt Freakshow, Rikti and Devouring Earth, and the costume slot requires that you hunt Crey. Hunt Freakshow any way you choose, but the rest are easy, and without needing to rely on unreliable scanner missions. Here's how it goes:
-Holsten Armitage, the Science contact, will give you a mission against the Rikti.
-Penny Peterson, the Mutation contact, will give you a mission against the Devouring Earth.
-Mark IV, the Technology contact, will give you a mission against Crey.
Job done
-Also, any hunt not given in a specific zone will count defeats anywhere, including inside missions.
-Allies defeating hunt enemies on their own only count towards your hunt mission if you are in the same zone as them. You don't have to do anything, just be in the zone.
-Hunt missions given in a specific area within a specific zone count enemies DEFEATED in the area, but not necessarily SPAWNED in the area, so it is possible to pull enemies normally outside the area into it and defeat them there for hunt mission credit. Handy if the enemies you need are rare or too high level.
-A lot of street spawns can have several possible groups that can spawn into them. If the one you're hunting doesn't show up in a spawn, move away, then return and something else will have spawned, potentially what you needed. Useful for hunting Carnies in PI.
-Sitting on your hands and watching a spawn WILL NOT make it change no matter how long you wait. It will only change if you move away from it a good distance.
-If you're dropping a Security Chief mission, make sure you talk to the Security Chief before you drop, or you will drop the FedEx and move on to the hunt, which I'm sure is what you actually wanted to drop.
-Entering an Ouroboros portal will interrupt people using Base Teleporters, Mission Teleporters and Assemble the Team powers nearby. Kindly wait for them to finish before you enter. Presumably, it will interrupt all interruptible powers.
-The Ouro portal cannot be activated while you are flying. Land first.
That's all I have for now

Incorrect. General Hammond has a horrible buy back rate (26%) compared to the stores in the Co-op Zones (Cim, Midnighter, and RWZ) (40%).
* The Vanguard Quartermaster in the RWZ, Julia Pria in Cimerora and General Hammond in Fire Base Zulu will buy back SOs at the best prices available.
|
Quote:
* Empowerment buffs that do not suck. All last for 1 hour: +perception, increased recovery (+17% - not bad considering unslotted stamina is +25%), increased attack rate (+20% like siphon speed), knockback protection (10 points). They can be built on the worktables in your base. |
Quote:
* Missions that give an exploration badge merely need to be entered and exited. In a few cases, your character may need to stay in the mission for a minute. In no cases, do you have to actually complete the mission. |
Quote:
* A character lower than 25 can use the Pillars of Ice and Fire to do flashback missions as long as the mission is started for her by a character which is level 25 or higher and the Pillar is located in a base. |

There are 2-3 of them. One IIRC is from Unai Kemen, hydra map.
What missions would these be? With Safeguard/Mayhem missions, you have to go to the Exploration Badge location to get it.
|
Also, it is possible to get "Cage Fighter" exploration badge just by observing arena fight if it happens on the cage map.
Yeah - its down the corridor opposite the entrance to Roman place (can't remember its name!). There is a badge in that room along with a woman sitting at the big table, she is the store.
I always wondered what caused this when I tried Mission TP and kept getting interupted.
My own little fact is:
* The only interzonal teleporter power will take you to Steel Canyon (bar mission TP) is the Wentworth TP power (day job or bought power). Very useful for one of Blue side talkie TF missions as the person is right next to the Steel Canyon Yellow Line. For the life of me I can't remember which one it is though!

Actually thanks for the correction on Hammond.

And did you know the Stealth Empowerment Buff doesn't suppress upon clicking things? What missions would these be? With Safeguard/Mayhem missions, you have to go to the Exploration Badge location to get it. Only if the mission is in the range of the lowbie. Can't bring a lowbie to a level 50 flashback through a base Pillar, e.g. |
Didn't know about the stealth empowerment not suppressing.
The missions that come to mind that you get by just entering and leaving: Multidimensional, Shrouded in CoH; Shady in CoV. I should probably make it clear I'm not referring to Safeguards / Mayhems.
Quote:
This only works if it is a generic Defeat X mission and not Defeat X in Zone/Neighborhood Y. Also, if you have a Defeat X number of Rikti mission. The Midnighter arc will not work for this, as the only Rikti that would count are Ci'Dian and anything summoned by Comm Officer. Everything else in those missions, if you are high enough level to get Rikti instead of Lost, are seen as Lost.

Multidimensional (from Tina Macintyre's Visit the Hydra Dimension... Or as someone else mentioned, from one of Unai Kemen's missions)
Shrouded (From either Maria Jenkins and her Stop Nightstar's Ritual mission, or Steve Sheridan's Stop the Next Rikti Assault mission).
Another entry for this list:
If you have a purchased Raptor Pack at the time you complete your first Atlas Park bank mission, you will not be awarded the Raptor Pack upon completion. (It may still be possible to get it though next time you do an Atlas mission provided your purchased pack has either expired or been deleted. Can't confirm or deny this though myself.)

It is not entering the portal, per se, but rather the despawning of the portal. So as long as it isn't your O-portal, enter away!

EDIT : And Willowpaw, the Rikti would be an exception because they are the only villain group like that - with the lost-Rikti translation.

Over in the market forums, we've been having a contest to see if we can make 2M inf with a newly created toon within 30 mins. So far, only one person has conditionally succeeded, but the thread also revealed that there are a lot of nifty details that many long time players wouldn't know or probably have forgotten. As a long time player, some of these were eye opening. Here's a partial list:
* War Witch in Pocket D is a trainer
* Trina the Body Sculptress is in the Tiki Room for costume/body shape changes in Pocket D.
* A costume tailor is available in the RWZ, which can be accessed directly by a level 1 character from Atlas Park. People though still make the trek to Steel Canyon.
* Invention tables are in the RWZ, which allows a level 1 character to craft things without going to Steel Canyon.
* Invention tables exist at all three hero side universities (Steel Canyon, Founder's Fall, Crotoa)
* Invention tables exist in Abandoned Labs in Port Oakes and St. Martial
* A flight pack can be purchased for 10,000 influence by a level 1 character either by the Arbiter in Grandville or in Fire Base Zulu via the Portal Corporation. Both are reachable by a level 1 character, and will grant a character a travel power at level 1. The flight pack lasts 120 mins.
* You can mission drop the door mission given to you by Coyote in the tutorial, and still get to level 2 and your choice of destination to either Atlas Park or Galaxy City. Presumably, you can do the same thing with the Arachnos Pilot during the villain tutorial.
* The Vanguard Quartermaster in the RWZ, Julia Pria in Cimerora and the Midnight Store will buy back SOs at the best prices available.
* Elevators are available in Grandville to get you to the upper portions of the web. Tunnels exist that connect the North part of Grandville to the central portion of the city.
* A level 14 Coralax haunts one of the pools outside of Grandville
* The Contaminated in the Ouroboros introductory mission counts towards Isolator. The Shivans in a later mission counts towards Men in Black / Woman in Black.
* The Market offers a single use teleporter that sells for 10,000 influence. It can be used to teleport to any location with a market. It's the only fixed priced item on the market.
* Empowerment buffs that do not suck. All last for 1 hour: +perception, increased recovery (+17% - not bad considering unslotted stamina is +25%), increased attack rate (+20% like siphon speed), knockback protection (10 points). They can be built on the worktables in your base.
* Missions (excluding Mayhems/Safeguards) that give an exploration badge merely need to be entered and exited. In a few cases, your character may need to stay in the mission for a minute. In no cases, do you have to actually complete the mission.
* Ouroboros portal is the only "temp" power that can be used during a Masters of TF attempt.
* You must be level 7 to buy rare salvage with AE tickets.
* You must be level 3 to do a respec.
* In the Ouroboros introductory missions that send you back to Outbreak / Breakout, you are still level 1 but with access to the powers of a level 5, including Rest, which you normally receive at level 2.
* You must be level 3 to use a Mission Teleporter, a Base Teleporter, the Pocket D VIP pass.
* You must be level 4 to use Ninja Run, though the GvE Jump Pack, Self Destruct and Mystic Fortune are all accessible at level 1.
* Respec'ing and not slotting your enhancements will get you the full price you paid for the unslotted SOs and the price it cost to craft any unslotted IO.
* A character lower than 25 can use the Pillars of Ice and Fire to do flashback missions as long as the mission is started for her by a character which is level 25 or higher and the Pillar is located in a base.
* /arenalist will bring up an arena interface from anywhere in the game
I'm sure this isn't a complete list by any means, but I thought these were worth sharing.
