Obscure things you may not know about playing the game

Thanks. I had no idea you could do things like that with a bind. Definitely going to try that.

  • When inside an office map, if there are enemies above you (eg a multi-level floor, on a ramp above), you can spot them easy even when they are not in line of sight. Just look upwards, and there will be shadows moving about on the ceiling above you. This only works for enemies on the same floor as you.
The same tactic works in the sewers for spotting stuff on the other side of the wall. Position your camera right, and you can 'see' through the grate at the base of the wall into the next room or corridor (helpful when you go through that little switchback room).

Also, Wormhole works around corners, through walls, etc. Quite useful for isolating a boss when you gank all his friends away.

For the on-the-fly targeters, try this

/bind alt+g beginchat /bind g target_custom_next enemy alive
{replace g as necessary}

Pressing alt+g will present you with the whole target_custom bind into which you just need to add the (partial) name of the enemy, which you can cycle through using the g key. Especially useful if you need to quickly pick out a sorcerer, shaman or something else without having to constantly type in the entire bind command.
Brilliant!

A few I just remembered:

If you get too close to the Rikti Mothership while the shields are up the game will teleport you away from the ship. You will land directly on top of the Asunder badge marker. Great for finding the badge if it gives you trouble.

I always assumed that the Heart of the Hamidon badge was only obtainable when Hami was up. It's not. You can run into the Hive any time you want and grab the badge. Just beware of DE Monsters!

Not always; head south from PI, and you'll eventually be zoned into the north end of Talos.

Which annoys me, since it used to be fun to slide around on.

Also:
If you click somebody's name in chat, you can get their character name or invite them to teams.
Seriously, if I ask one more five-year vet for an invite in a global channel only to get 'What's your name?' back, my head's going to explode.

You can bind one key to activate all your armor toggles.

/bind g "powexec_toggleon Evasion$$powexec_toggleon Focused Senses$$powexec_toggleon Focused Fighting"

Each time you hit the 'g' key, it will activate another toggle, starting on the right side of the bind and working your way left.

You can also use the right-to-left reading of keybinds and macros to do things like:
/bind numpad1 "powexec_name Speed Boost$$teamselect 1"
which will target and Speed Boost the team leader.

Well in the old days, right after a hami raid was your best chance to get the badge. Any other time, and hami might be waiting for you.

These days, hami doesn't come out except when raids are in progress. ^_^

Super-obscure, and little more than a curious bug, but - the small site office-turned-squat in the Mercy Isle Factory map. Jump or fly into the ceiling, and you'll find yourself emerging from a pool of water. You might even notice a fragment of war wall. As my wife put it, looks like they really need to get their air conditioning looked at.

Is that a right click or a left? Is it only from global channels or what? I heard about that back some time ago but it's never seemed to work when I try it. Right clicking brings up the 'edit tab' menu if I remember.

(I don't have to feel embarrassed to admit I don't know this and your head doesn't have to explode - I'm only a three year vet. )

The bit displaying their handle should highlight when you mouse over it in any chat medium except emotes. Left-clicking that should get you a menu.

I'm not going crazy, then - while checking out that map, I leapt too high while using Ninja Run and heard *SPLASH* and thought, "What the HELL?!"

Villain side, if you have to go to Port Oakes to pay Rent or to Mercy Island for some odd SF mission, the Ouroborus Portal isn't going to get you there if you don't feel like zone hopping. However, if you have the Marketeer day job badge (for logging out at the Black Market), you'll get a Black Market Teleporter temp power which will get you to both zones.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

LOVE THIS IDEA!

Hmmm.... I have the extra space before the last quotation mark...

Those are 46-50 Oro missions, I don't know if you get access to those before 50.

Do the same for the Shard.
These are all freakin' brilliant. I was grousing about the trek to Cim. just the other night, thinking "there has to be a better way!"

I knew there was a way to do this! I'd read something similar about it on the old forums, but was not clever enough to take notes...

But there are hovering "Omega Maneuvers" spawning in the tunnels of Grandville that will chase you once they detect you and will detonate once they reach your location. Run as fast as you can! :P

It's possible, yet time consuming, to build a bridge made of oreoportals.
It's also very fun and it somehow changed altitudes from under Atlas to the top of city hall.

Also, you can stand on Oreoportals in mid-air as as surface.

You can also do it with drums. Image taken by Cosmic_Hyperion.

Wow, I've seen the oro portal before but never the drums before. Thats impressive

LMFAO that bongo tower is awesome! I wonder if there is a way to do the emote, jump, emote again and spawn the new drum against your old drum. Would be a cool, if bizarre method for speedsters to get some Z axis action.
