A picture requires you to wait until a player reports it unless you stumble across it in the pursuit of your regular reading.

Another issue might be that, as they say, you can't unsee things. Descriptions of offensive things unfold and you have the option of not continuing to read unless you're as curious as I am. But stumbling across tubgirl is just that and it's done. Which some can shrug off, while others might have a less robust stomach.
A text search would search through all of the text in the forums and a moderator would have to trawl through posts as well as signatures plus links in text sigs don't necessarily have to have apparent descriptors in either and would require someone clicking on it and then reporting it. Plus posting an image is hard evidence for the mods in aid of punishment rather than claims of a "mislink" or quick and easy editable wording.

Still arguing for or against is a futile task, each has it's pros and cons. I'm waiting to see the unbiased reaction of a Mod to the issue.

Presumably if the post numbers were retained through the migration (big if) some sort of script could be written to harvest them and transplant them into vbulletin-usable links, but I have no idea how possible or plausible such a thing is.

If it's not, that a lot of work for someone. o.O
This migration has been in the works for nearly a year. Part of that process was (I'm nearly certain) an attempt to script just such a thing. The fact that it couldn't/didn't happen is an indicator of just how guargantuan the task would be.

Currently certain areas like the Guide to Guides, and back issues of the City Scoop are feeling the most pain. Older forum threads aren't such a huge deal, but these sections that make their bread and butter from links to other parts of the forum are hurting.

We're working at the Scoop to come up with a plan of action, but there's nothing to report yet other than we're aware there's a problem.

Currently we do not have the Dev's or Community Digest up and running. We're working on this feature however, and expect to have it back fairly soon. At launch our priority was on stability and baseline functionality, now we can add the shiny back in.

When you go into the forum you want to read, at the top of the forum is the banner with Forum Tools and Search This Forum tabs. Click on Forum Tools, then under that, click on Subscribe to this Forum (you can also subscribe to any thread in the same way).

When you log in, go to the User CP link from the top banner. That'll take you to your control panel - all your forums will be listed right there. Down the side will be the controls for PMs and options; at the bottom will be the subscribed threads.

Not really what I was looking for, but it is a workaround. I'd looked at this, but since it isn't putting it on the front page of my forums, it isn't really what I'm wanting. One of the tabs of my homepage is the forums. Having to go through the extra steps to see what I'm wanting to see is rather ... annoying.

A difficult way to do it in my opinion as well.

Ah well, I was afraid this would be my only option.

At least it is one of the few things I've found so far that I don't like on the new vBulletin forums.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I am currently having an issue under my User CP. It is showing I have 5 new messages under User Notifications no matter what I do. I've gone through all my messages, selected them, marked them as unread, specifically looked at the 5 it's trying to tell me are New, and more. Yet it still says there are 5 new messages.

Testing one two one two...

Looking good so far!

_EU... Ah well i can live with it for a while until you get around to fixing it .

I have a hard time telling which threads have new posts or not, at least on the Villain theme. The difference between bolded and unbolded thread titles is fairly minimal.

Hmm after seeing some sigs...I'm in the No Sigs camp

If the image tag is just a forgotten switch that got flipped, that's okay too. I lived with the boards having no tags or image sigs for 4 years. I can live with it on this new forum.

As for smilies: I'd request smaller archetype and origin icons be added. Like the ones I shrunk down for the RO boards.

Also apparently the forum counts smilies in the image limitation. (4 images per post)

Yeah, I'm not all that thrilled with it, either. For one thing, the only way to get to the calendar is through a direct forum link - can't subscribe to it and there's no quick link.

Could you try bookmarking the UCP, perhaps?

I only read a handful of the forums, and for time-management reasons, I really need to limit the ones I look at (if it's written, I'll read it - not seeing it is one of the few ways I have of defeating that. I could spend all day reading these forums, and I'm not paid to do that). This isn't one of the best options there is, but at least it is an option.

There's a couple of things I don't like so far. On the up side, the editor's better.

The Scoop's having fits, though.

I like those icons... As for the bit about sigs, yeah, it's slippery territory allowing the images, but they can keep it under control...

It seems though that I can't use a .gif file in it... Is this a fluke, or is it something to keep people from putting animations in there? (good luck with the filesize limit...)

All that is planned fails. All that is born dies.
All that is built crumbles. This will always be true.

But memories remain, And that is beautiful.

Overall, i'm a bit unsold on the new look, but the old look, while functional, looked like a fansite BBS and had to go. So I guess it's all for the better =)

ps: testing

It's definitely fancier looking than the old forums...But I honestly preferred the old layout for functionality. Having every section presented to you in one big list made things quick and easy.

So thumbs up for looks, thumbs down for functionality. Suppose I'll get used to it, though...

Also, no option for a villain theme yet, or am I not looking hard enough?

The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)

I don't mind other people having or wanting images in their signatures. I just don't want to see them. Currently I'm blocking all signatures. I wish there was a setting where I could "block images in signatures". Am I able to do this now?

Where does this link...

take you? After some perusing and some pressing of random buttons I got to that page. It may or may not work for you or be what you wanted.

Found it just after I posted. I was kinda hoping for the Arachnos emblem to replace the stars, seems weird to leave that little detail out. Meh, oh well.

Completely agree, in fact I pointed out the very same in the forum suggestion thread!

The new forum reset my ignore list.

It irritates me, but I've decided to use the opportunity as a general amnesty, sort of like how I use RMT Spammers pushing people off of my in-game ignore list as a second chance for all but the most painfully unpleasant people. Still, I really wish it had been handled more carefully... two posters are already back on the list, and I've been on the new forum for only a couple hours. Having apparently judged these individuals accurately the first time, I really would have preferred to never encounter their words again at all.

Beyond that, eh... a forum is a forum. I'd gotten used to the old ones, eventually I'll get used to these.

At least you can configure your account to block image tags, displaying a link instead. The downside is while sig images seemed to be limited to a relatively small size, avatars still have the problem of simply being a link, already blocked one in this thread that was over 960KB in size.

Come on, is it so ruddy difficult NOT to post 10+ second gif movies as your (general you) avatar?
