Discussion: Welcome to the new Official City of Heroes Forums!
Truthfully? I tend to know better than most people. Not all of the time, not on more specific topics such as, say, quantum physics, mind you. But the bottom line is that empirically I'm right more often than I'm wrong.
Which pretty much marks the odds in my favour. |

Much love and all, Obsidius, but that's pretty damn atrocious based on your choice of colours alone already. Unless they add the City of Clowns in Going Rogue. Seriously, it's pretty much lending weight to the anti-image side.
|
But unless the image breaks the forum rules in regards to obscenity and the like, I'm free to display it, regardless of your opinion
Even with all the bonus carriage returns you chucked in, your sig picture is bigger than your contribution to the thread, makes me LOL. When you throw in a one liner it's literally 10+ times larger than the post!
Edit: Oh and hey look at that, the  smiley doesn't work anymore and there is no quick smiles! |
I'm pretty sure using IMG tags in a thread is a bug, but being worried about forum signature images is the least of your concerns at this point
Come to think on it... it's rather odd that the sig pic isn't showing up on the posts I made prior to adding it.
That implies something odd. Checking!
EDIT: Ok, I can go back to old posts, edit them, go to advanced edit and enable sig. Now that it's already enabled, all future changes to sig should be shown in all posts that had sig enabled.
Interesting.
Be well, people of CoH.
Honestly, I don't think I can give split views on this.
What I think so far...
- Having your forum login = game login: Bad!
- Not being able to view all posts in one go (i.e. View all option): Not good. I used that option quite a lot.
- Allowing Images in Sigs: I could care less. If it wasn't for some of the linking I do like, I'd not even bother with viewing Sigs at all (Like I do w/Avatars).
- Stickies at the top of evey page: Not sure yet. Could get annoying after a while.
(I may come back and edit this after further workings through the forums...)
Otherwise, ok. But then again, I wasn't overly thrilled w/CO's boards either (or maybe it's I don't care for vBulletin...).
Thank you for the time...
How do you autojump to latest new post on a thread? Nevermind. Figured it out.
Be well, people of CoH.
OK.. Item # 1 that I intensely dislike.
Old forum: Click on thread subject, get taken to the most recent post since I last viewed a thread.
New forum: Click on thread subject, go to the first post on the first page.
This is terrible. This makes it extremely difficult to keep up with different multi-page threads.
That was a joke, right?
I can tell we're going to get along just great...lol |
Where I still strongly believe that a sizable percentage of people will abuse any form of image linking. And while it can certainly be policed, it's frankly not worth the effort. Some may have some artistical merit (Beefcake's animated one does look rather sleek), though there's little practical value in graphically repeating your handle which is already given with every post.
There is really no palpable value to signature images. They are an added means of expression, which will require added policing. And some are bound to be shockingly hideous, whether intentionally or unintentionally so.

Bill, IIRC vBulletin actually saves the Sig with the post. If you edit your Sig later on, pre-edit posts will retain the old Sig and post-edit ones will receive the new Sig. Unless you do what you did. I actually like this feature because often signatures also represent their times.

Just a general tip: Mousing over is your friend in this new forum. There are a lot of popup tooltips to tell you what different things are for.

I'd like to see a direct RSS feed option available for things like the dev digest (yes I know about Red Tomax's). Also the dev/community digests are all html source which isnt formatted properly, probably a script somewhere that needs to be updated |
Or is there another way to do a similiar function?

Howdy folks!
Damn CoX, always pulling me back in. And now a fancy new bulletin board? Well I'll be an Uncle Monk.
This be truth. Not tested it really but I suspect any links to within the boards that were extant when they were migrated will be borked just because the links are still pointed to the old boards. Which no longer exist. Means the guide-guides will be broken too.
|
Ouch. That's going to make rebuilding my "Faves" list a bit difficult.
And /signed to turning off images JUST in sigs.

I "think" what they are looking for, as I am, is the Favorite Forum toggle that UBB had that would allow you to customize what you saw on your front page. When you wanted to see the rest of the forums you had to click a link to show all forums.
For example, for the longest I had Justice Server, Announcements, HeroCon, Developer's Corner, Technical Issues and Bugs, and The Training Room (Test Server) set as Favorite Forums so that I didn't have to see all of the other servers that I wasn't interested in. Occaisionally I'd add a new Favorite (much as I recently added the Technical Issues and Bugs section or various Beta boards as needed) but mostly I only saw the forums that I wanted to see. Is there a way to set this in vBulletin? |
When you go into the forum you want to read, at the top of the forum is the banner with Forum Tools and Search This Forum tabs. Click on Forum Tools, then under that, click on Subscribe to this Forum (you can also subscribe to any thread in the same way).
When you log in, go to the User CP link from the top banner. That'll take you to your control panel - all your forums will be listed right there. Down the side will be the controls for PMs and options; at the bottom will be the subscribed threads.

All my posts reflect my current choice in signature rather than the signature they were posted with. I would say that simply refreshing the desired page would solve the issue of previous pages sigs being uncurrent.
|
Nope. Not quite. Some posts have signature turned on. Some don't. Those that don't must be manually edited to enable it.
Be well, people of CoH.
Which means ALL the Guides to Guides posts are now broken?
|
*caveat - I know very little of forums so I may be talking out of my backside from here on in*
Presumably if the post numbers were retained through the migration (big if) some sort of script could be written to harvest them and transplant them into vbulletin-usable links, but I have no idea how possible or plausible such a thing is.
If it's not, that a lot of work for someone. o.O
Character references! Artz! Whatnot!
Actually I believe they would require less or no more policing than text signatures. Imo, an image is easier and quicker to see in it's entirety than making sure that the content of a text based signature plus any links with it is appropriate for the forums.

A picture requires you to wait until a player reports it unless you stumble across it in the pursuit of your regular reading.
Another issue might be that, as they say, you can't unsee things. Descriptions of offensive things unfold and you have the option of not continuing to read unless you're as curious as I am. But stumbling across tubgirl is just that and it's done. Which some can shrug off, while others might have a less robust stomach.

Counterargument would be that you can theoretically just do a word search for uncensored words that routinely come up in an offensive context, such as schoolyard level insults. Unless everyone posting a potentially offensive (and I myself really don't worry about offensive per se, I'm rather dulled thanks to the internet) picture names it 'offensive_picture_of_genitalia.jpg' or so.

I like now that you can type reasons when reporting posts.
