Discussion: Welcome to the new Official City of Heroes Forums!

The only complaint I have is that the Dev Digest and Community Digest no longer work. They are both just full of broken links, and the new posts by red names are no longer tracked. I would really like to see this issue fixed.

I'm using Safari 4.0.2 on a Vista 64 system (SP2).

I do not log out of the forums, but the "Remember Me" function is not working.

(When I use Internet Explorer 8 on the same computer, the "Remember Me" function works as intended.)

THANK YOU! I am sure you're not the first person to post this info, but since your's is the message I read, you get the thanks!

I was about to complain that I couldn't get my log in to work unless I went to the "register" tab.. at which point it told me I was already registered and the log in stuck.

Now when I come in from the heroes side, my log in sticks and my skin changes to villains like it should!

YAY!!!

They posted stating that they wanted the forums up and running first; then add the shiny stuff (like the dev digest etc.) They will be updated eventually.

(guess quotes don't stack)

To get stacked quotes, you have to go through and choose multiquote for every single post you want in the stack, then quote on the last one.

You can then proceed to have them one after another, or you can move the quote tags around so that they're nested (which can sometimes be useful).

Hmm, I'll have to experiment with that one the. I noticed the multi toggle, and only used it on the post I tried since I'm not at all used to this - it feels a bit clumsy - I prefer to just have all the quotes that is in the last message without having to toggle them on >.< Oh well ...

Thanks for the headsup though.

(( gah and now I have to find the other post I toggled because it keeps posting those quotes >.< ))

Well the new forums *look* shiny and all, but they broke every link in existing forum notes. I thought part of the three day transfer process was that they'd make sure all those links still works fine.

Now when I go to look up years of player build FAQs in the, say, blaster forums I get a ton of broken links. All those FAQs are now useless.

Yeah, there's going to be a lot of work updating all those faqs that have been growing since the early days of CoH.

They ask us to use the "improved search" option, but that still doesn't do me much good when searching for something - I still end up digging threads after threads trying to find the information I'm looking for. Might as well just look up the threads manually

This is what I tend to do to get nested quotes right:

First, select and copy what was already quoted in the post you're replying to (colored yellow above), then click the quote button.
Paste the copied text directly after the new quote tag in the editor.
Clean up quote tags (add [quote] [/quote] where appropriate).
Remove the "View post" texts that no longer work as links.

This way you won't have to track down the older posts for multi quote, and then edit them to only keep the parts that were quoted.

When it's only two people talking back and forth you might not want to keep all the "Originally Posted by..." texts either, so you can remove all but the first one of those.

So is there a way to get the avatars looking right? My police box (the same graphic as from before) is all fat and squat. It should be 100x75, but it looks like it's being forced to a 100x100. Can we get that looked at?

Unfortunately the new forums have been at least as unstable for me as the old forums at their worst.

Might I humbly suggest that the name of the link be changed to something more descriptive and intuitive such as full or classic view? The page it is on is already in English so clicking on that category name seems so unnecessary that I'm sure many people don't even realize it is a means to expand the forums.

On the old forums they had a link at the top of the page to go to the City of Heroes official website. The new forums clicking the title sends you to the city of heroes forum (you know the place you are already at) it's just not as helpful as you might think

/bug Avatars are not displaying in Hybrid or Threaded Display Modes, but they look just fine in Linear. I prefer the organization of the alternative modes, but I like seeing the avatars too!

Also: I very much appreciate "Disable smilies in text" :) I'd like to be able to select this as a "global" option via User CP, at some point in the future.

I have no major gripes about this new arrangement. :)

At least the old ubb forums knew what date it was. Every day that I log in, it shows yesterdays posts as new, even though I have read through them. It even goes as far as saying that there are new posts in a topic that I was the last one to post in....... 24 hours ago and 3 reboots later...... Some of them I have read 5 times, yet every time that I come back, it shows the same posts as new and unread......

Using Firefox 3.5, if that matters.

Cleared history a few times since we changed to the new forums. Still doesn't help.

*edit* Just used CCleaner, cleared cache, rebooted comp. This post is still coming up as unread.

So, according to my finds......: Only come here once every 24 hours to find anything new. Otherwise you will have to watch a rerun to get to the new content. Sometimes more than 24 hours..... Your Results May Vary.

It just sucks when I get excited for a new post (yes, I have no life) and there is nothing new but the stupid little arrow that says that there is new posts.

Apaprently, its old format won't work with the new forum, so they're having to tweak its layout a bit.

o'kay, ummm, another question,

why is the Dev Digest broken, and when will it be fix'd? ... it's really difficult to find "red name" posts now

The latest I've heard on that is that the mods are working on it to get it working agian - although there is a temp dev digest available.

As Golden Girl said, it's a known issue and is being worked on.

Devian created a CoH Digest that works fairly well, it's just not on these forums.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

This is actually what I came to this thread to complain about. In long threads it's quite possible that you want to quote someone who is in turn quoting another post that is pages back from the end of the thread. It's impractical to have to manually multiquote.

Please just change the behavior of the quote mechanism so that it quotes the ENTIRE post being replied to, including any nested quotes. As it stands now, it can be difficult to follow a debate because key context is often missing.
