  1. Good to see happy people posting in a happy thread I'm just lucky that my forum name wasn't taken - I was really fearing it was. Damn lucky I say.

The difference was rather severe. I realize it was necessary to even the field of the new to be explored world - but the devs themselves realized it was a bit too much which was found in the next expansion wrath of the lich king were I only replaced some of my epic gear around L75/76 ... that felt far less painful than the first hit.

I'm just glad that CoX doesn't work that way.

The other thing I really hate about itemisation is the fruitloopy mismatch of outfits you gather along the way and not every game gives you the choice to make it maching (warhammer actually did this well by having class gear and the ability to colour it to your liking). Age of Conan had gear but that didn't seem to matter much since the percentages were so small it didn't matter. Lotro does have itemization but it doesn't require high level gear to be able to raid.

I guess the purples in CoX are a bit like the epics in other games; they both require farming to gather and depending on the group sizes in both cases can take a long long time.
  3. Although I haven't been a full subscriber to the game; I have been returning off and on since 2005. My biggest scare/disappointment was the level raise. I had a L35 at that time and was looking forward to hit 40. Then when I got back, it was not 40 but 50. It took me a bit to get over that fact (whole lot of should haves and what nots).

I started playing again and then came along WoW. I have been an avid player of the warcraft series and loved the lore so it was really high on my list of games I wanted to play.

The first run to 60 was super casual; lots of roleplaying - but then raiding started in earnst and I started missing/losing friends who were playing the raid game. Then; to have something to do at 60 I joined in - but was taken back due to some sacrafices I had to make; mainly build and thus the way I like to play my shaman. Basically all they needed from me was mana - so I became a mana potion - or in CoX terms - a stamina buffer. I was melee (enhancement - must be CoX still rubbing off on me); so I changed my build and playstyle - and ended up not liking to play. However, I figure if I keep it up long enough I can deck out my shaman in epics and be done with it forever.

Raiding 3 days a week, sometimes 5 until an instance was on farm. So basically we all became farmers.

Irony was; since I was healer I was not allowed to roll on anything but healer stuff. All that for nothing. I left the game until the expansion.

So when the level cap got to 70 I was weary - but they introduced a race I loved - the Blood Elves.

Literally on the few first quests with my shaman I received a weapon (to get there it's like 10 min work) that replaced my epic weapon. That was a slap in the face.

This time I didn't race to 70; I didn't want to raid at first but once you get to 70 and friends do it you flow right back into it. This time however, I only joined casual raiding groups - and only raided when I felt like it. However, once I'd done an instance I really didn't feel like going at it again; not in the same week.

Again after getting to 70 I pretty much left the game again to return when the new expansion came. This time my favorit class was in it; the Death Knight. leveled her to 80 and left the game again ... not wanting to raid; gotten tired of this constantly racing to the next cap; losing all progress of what's done before and never quite feel satisfied with my character since she was never finished.

And now, there's a new expansion coming - but it doesn't hold anything I care for to see or experience so when that expansion hits the shelves I won't reactivate my account this time.

I still play CoX though. I just hope that this post shows why I don't like a level cap raise.

Awww; they're to die for so cute! Many many thanks for making this one for me.
  5. If you have your settings as is suggested and the game still looks jagged make sure your GUI scale and 3D scale are the same.

When I changed my resolution the 3D scaling was set on a different resolution - creating jagged edges as if forced FSAA wasn't working. I've been looking at my settings over and over; trying different settings and nothing worked until I figured out that the scale was different (not something I usually look at).

Oh yeah I read the email sure; but it was just a quick glance and delete it

As for the launcher, for a long time the launcher would not display for me - it just turned black - and indeed after that I quit bother reading it
  7. Enjoy your break from the game and I wish you all the luck with your new game and success with the wonderful 3D world that is Max. I'm sure he'll keep you busy for some time

I will miss you; you have been a positive force on the forums with organizing all sorts of events for us with some very good prices - it always amazed me how you keep giving away all that - very generous spirit.

Best of health to you and a successful recovery hoped for your gaming assistant
  8. All those conventions are way too far for me to travel anyway; and in the past they have offered plenty of alternatives in getting those codes, so I'm sure new ones will take off soonish

ps: GPBunny, I really love your avatar - they're my favorit teddy bears (forever friends). I actually have the set that spells I <3 U

In a tragic accident, the MA just gets deleted from the game. Where will the people go? Assumably, they will start doing normal missions again, whether just for fun or to farm.

Where do normal missions take place? In instanced indoors missions. These are completely separate from the normal zones, far away from broadcast range. People will spend about 90% of their time there. Atlas Park may end up being deserted, but so will everything else be, simply because we're too busy doing stuff in instanced missions.

I get where you people are coming from. It LOOKS like everyone went to Atlas Park to farm the AE, but that's misleading. It simply looks that way because you see people there to begin with. What you don't see is the countless people in instanced missions just doing what they wanna do.

I try to refrain from anecdotes because I recognise they are highly subjective, but during the Double XP weekend, I managed to do three TFs. Two were planned, one just kinda happened and I got into it.

To reiterate, the people that play outside the MA are still there, they're just busy, you know, playing outside the MA. You have to seek them out, because chances are, they won't seek you out.
I agree with this. It does look empty during the weekend, however - at times during switching missions I saw quite a few of people entering and or leaving a few busy hubs - somewhere between 10 to 15+ people per spot - think about the hubs near the sea like the boats and submarines; the portals to bases, the entrance and exits of Pocket D, Vaults, trainers, and so forth ... seriously, they're there ... and even more so during xp weekend.

Same here ... at first I thought of myself as rather clever "fabricating" the name Netherine - just a playing with nether and add some words; however I was put back to earth soon when I tried to get the name on Union and found I couldn't get it (though I do have @Netherine); so someone else was quicker AND more clever than me. Not too hard to do mind you, but yeah that little experience made me fear for the merge thinking someone else had that same name.

Glad it wasn't the case, because I happen to like this name very much
  11. If you look at the days joined, I be a giant noob. The day I joined CoH was 2 years before that, so hopefully that's my saving grace.

I mean, I joined CoH and I didn't even know there WAS a forum - how noob'er can you get?

Truth to be said, I only got more into City of ... due to the release of the villains. That was more up to my alley - never got a hero beyond 35; though I do have 2 villains at 50.

Ohhh looking forward to hearing more then!

In the mean time I'll try to visit Atlas Park on my lowbie hero and cheer for the contestants. Way to go!

    g-a-y supergroup

I'm also one that dislikes it when the term gay is used as a derogatorive term; and it's unfortunately rather popular on forums and MMO's. At first I would state my dislike of people using it which made matters worse most of the time. Only a very few times have I been successful in discussing this one dislike.

In that same beginning I was also very open about myself, but that too backfired so badly that from that day on I kept things more to myself; though this lead to confusing situations where I talked with people I got to know about past experiences and would refer to ex girlfriends and in the now to my current boyfriend (or my hubby as I often call him, because it fits better how I feel about our relationship).

So in general I either avoid talking about past experiences, or if I think the friendship has developed enough I might discuss more private matters - one thing for sure is that I won't discuss these matters elaborately on the forums, not even if they're specifically geared towards my sexual orientation - simply because the internet makes people even crazier than they can be when you face them in real life - and I've met some crazy scary people in my life.
  14. My XP weekend was great but short. Short in the way that I tried to plan the weekend carefully so I would have the full weekend to play and on the last minute (friday morning already) there came some sort of emergency so I lost friday and saturday so I could only play the evenings, and still enjoyed a full sunday.

I was able to bring my soldiers from L18 to 28 and was quite happy with the result seeing as how limited my time suddenly became. I also lost A LOT of time when I struck L24 with my soldiers and with the forums down I had to figure out builds myself which was rather time consuming/confusing - not to mention I wanted to upgrade their IO enhancements which too was a bit time consuming.
  15. Yes, the world as we know it has come to an end ... now that the forums have merged the doom surely will become far greater and more terrifying than ever!

Or we could all just sit at a campfire and enjoy s'mores ...
  16. Well yes, it's quite possible that someone figured out a way to run the game on a platforum currently not officially supported.
  17. I agree, a bit of a tease would be much better than slamming the door shut.
  18. I only know that they mentioned at one point that a mac version would come available, and they have. Are you certain they mentioned the consoles and are you not mixing it up with the mac version?

    These forums...

I see I'm not the only one who has some "start up" issues with these new forums. I can only hope that after we get used to it we can laugh about it.
  20. I dual box using a fast and slow pc and the visits to the black market take noticably longer - just clicking the shady figurine on my old and slow pc freezes the game for about 30 seconds and then the listings pop up and that's with 1 gig of ram >.<. I do have the occasional crash but I get them on both systems.

640k ought to be enough *cough* And look now ... we're counting in terrabytes already.
  21. There's little I can add to what's already been said, so I'll just welcome you to the game and forums instead. Hope you'll have tons of fun

Yeah, there's going to be a lot of work updating all those faqs that have been growing since the early days of CoH.

They ask us to use the "improved search" option, but that still doesn't do me much good when searching for something - I still end up digging threads after threads trying to find the information I'm looking for. Might as well just look up the threads manually

Hmm, I'll have to experiment with that one the. I noticed the multi toggle, and only used it on the post I tried since I'm not at all used to this - it feels a bit clumsy - I prefer to just have all the quotes that is in the last message without having to toggle them on >.< Oh well ...

    Thanks for the headsup though.

  25. Issue 16 comes around quickly. Good to see the pace is going up instead of down. Way to go! I can't wait for the power colouring tools and the new power set.
