I feel like I'm behind a cloudy pane of glass trying to do stuff I'm used to on these forums.

How do I pull up a list of smilies? I'm a cold, emotionless person without them. I also can't be a jerk and still add a winky face to the end of a sentence to make it seem like I was kidding. Wink.

How do I easily get to a list of my posts? Before I could hit Member List, and I'd be at the very top, and I could just click myself and then view my posts. Here, I can't figure out how to get there at all. Do I have to subscribe to every thread I post in?

For that matter, how do I easily get to my own userpage to view things like messages left there? I can't seem to get there through the User CP and the easiest way I've found to get there is to click on my name in one of my posts. Which is harder to do when I can't view a listing of my posts.

How do I quote someone who quoted someone? Anytime I try to quote someone it just throws in their post without any previous quotes. If I click multiquote it just lights up waiting for something. Do I have to click every post and manually embed the quotes into eachother?

Aaah, help!

Try the WYSIWYG editor for the smilie list.

User CP works fine for me to get to my messages.

Multiquote is used to quote several different people with one post, so you don't get people like me who like to attribute each quote to the right person doing a spamming of posts. You clock multi-quote for each person you want to quote.

In your user preferences, use a WYSIWYG editor. To be honest though, the smilies are very lame.

Go to user preference, set it such that you automatically subscribe to every thread you post in, with no email notifications. Then, every time you log in, go to "User CP". It lists all your subscribed threads with new posts. It is actually a lot easier than the old forums to track the threads you are interested in.

On top of that, you can subscribe to a whole forum. That forum would also show up in your User CP. Treat User CP as your little forum front page! It has everything you need, so you really don't have to ever leave it and skim through a jungle of posts to find the ones you are interested in.

Read the previous paragraph.

Alternatively, find a post of your own, click on your name right above your avatar, and a menu pops up! Fancy!

I believe so. While it is good that it gets rid of easy and annoying quote pyramids, sometimes it is not convenient.

And then, after clicking multi-quote for each person, click New Reply at the bottom of the thread.

That's the most important part - it gives you smilies, colors, fonts and other text tools.

How do I put a URL in my post but have it show as a signgle word, without typing codes in manually? Under the old system there were two entry fields in the URL entry box.

Eco.

I see I'm not the only one who has some "start up" issues with these new forums. I can only hope that after we get used to it we can laugh about it.

If you have the WYSIWYG editor...

Type what you want. Highlight the word to be linked, and then click the "Insert Link" button. It'll turn the highlighted word/phrase into a link.

All of your suggestions for the WYSIWYG editor work in the standard editor, as well. It's only the basic editor that's crap. Why it's the default I have no idea.

Really?

Now I'm -really- wondering why they're calling it "WYSIWYG"...

Because the standard editor doesn't show you the result (you see example, rather than example), it just gives you the same behavior with the buttons.

WYSIWYG shows you... probably... what the post is going to look like without hitting Preview. What You See Is What You (might) Get

I know that. Which is why I'm wondering why it's called WYSIWYG. Because it's nothing close to what the post is going to look like without hitting the preview button. xD

A WYSIWYG environment is something like, say Microsoft Word. Or an HTML editing software like Dreamweaver. Or an actual WYSIWYG forum plugins that are out there, and some of them are really nice. My VG forum has 'em.

But the one CoH has, really doesn't fall under WYSIWYG's definition...
