Quote:What? No 'can I have your stuff' comment? No 'Well, bye' .gif?/all this.
Seriously, what was that? A "I left, and I'm coming back to tell you I'm still gone, ha ha" post?
Yep. Totally right. The opinions of previous long term customers matter not at all. No reason anyone should care about that. I have totally waited months, nurturing all my pent up nerdrage this entire time, just waiting for the proper opportunity to let it all out!
Or it could be, I just actually was interested in checking out the game that I played and enjoyed for a long time and seeing what has changed.
Nice to see the CoH community has also fallen quite far since I last played as well.. -
Exactly my point. Thank you. Between power creep, class homogenization, pay-for-performace, etc. CoH has been dumbed down to the point there is no need to do anything beyond faceroll the keyboard.
Wonder how long 'til achievement badges can be bought in the store.. -
Don't kid yourselves folks.. whether you call it pay-to-win, pay-for-performance, or whatever, it cheapens the game experience for all.
I just decided to pop back onto the forum after a long absence and see what was new with CoH, a game I spent over 3 years playing just about daily.
Have to say, it is very sad (but not surprising) to see the direction this game has taken since Freedom & the real $ market went live. Players can apparently not only buy all the rarest items in the game, but now they have introduced these 'amplifiers' as well..
Disappointed to see the game fall so hard & fast after so many good years. Definitely glad I made the decision to cancel my two subscriptions when this mess started.
I'm sure it won't be long before they throw in purchasable character levels as well. -
So does basically the entire MMO playerbase, outside of an extremely vocal minority that consistently ignores the basic concept of multiplayer gaming. The market for MMORPG's (and every other multiplayer game out there) is players that like playing with other people. It's not that hard to grasp really, folks.. Spin it however you like. Rationalize every which way possible. It doesn't change the basic core concept of the multiplayer gaming genre.

Quote:That's your answer right there.can you not get missions if you are above the level of the zone?
Bloody Bay is level 15-25. The contact won't give you missions if you above the level of the zone.
Quote:and can I get hyperstealth from a different pvp zone? -
Quote:Which is an arguable advantage, since most players dropping billions on builds are kitting out level 50 characters, and a level 50 PvP IO is just as good as a level 10 in that case. Moreover it gives the buyer freedom to choose from among multiple items and any level they desire.
Quote:Speculation is just that. When it becomes reality, then I'll worry about it. I've been given "you're asking too much" as an argument before. It was irrelevant then, it's irrelevant now.
Quote:We'll see. If the pricing is lowered, I'll probably offer at a lower price. THEN. -
*shakes head at all the players with more money than sense*

Count me in for tonight too, if there is still room available..

OK, mine is rolled up and ready to go.. Plant/Ice Dominator.

Quote:Well, there's several new games out, so it looks like a good weekend to put CoH on the shelf until they can get this mess patched..http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=277957
Flipping. Tuesday.
Enjoy a bug-filled weekend folks. Think I'll be using my time for more enjoyable ventures, like studying for Calculus.
Edit: Also confirmed here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...98#post3984098 -
Hotfix for this, please!

Are we going to try and get this off the ground over the weekend, or do you still want to wait until Monday?
I'd prefer the weekend, to be honest. -

Quote:Their being able to buy the badges that you've spent ages earning doesn't actually affect your game at ALL, so why should it annoy you?How does someone else being willing to pay real money to get these things cheapen your effort in any way, shape or form? Some people (like me), just don't have the available RL time to spend gaining these things, and some (like me) have unusually BAD luck with the RNG (I've gotten TWO purples, crap ones, since they came out). Their being able to buy the enhancements that you've spent ages earning doesn't actually affect your game at ALL, so why should it annoy you?
Their being able to buy the levels that you've spent ages earning doesn't actually affect your game at ALL, so why should it annoy you? -
I love superteams! I could definitely get in on this.. Do we have a list of what AT's and powersets people are going with so far?
-
Quote:Since this seems to be a common response in this thread, I would like to ask the people who are taking that position this:This pretty much sums up the thread. Being able to buy stuff that you can't trade and that isn't any better than what you can get the normal way is completely innocuous.
If a brand new player who started playing yesterday purchasing the rarest and 'best' gear for real money is perfectly acceptable, as long as it can also be earned through normal play, no matter how much time and effort it may take the regular player, where do you draw the line on what is acceptable?
Is anything acceptable for real money purchase as long as it can also be earned through regular play?
If a player spends years working on earning 1200+ badges, is it acceptable that the hypothetical brand new player with more $$ than sense, be able to buy every badge in the game for real money through the market?
Is it acceptable to buy XP for cash? How about levels? Level 0-50 instantly for PP? How about accolades like TF Commander or Portal Jockey? All these things provide tangible, in-game benefits to the player.
If, to you, it is perfectly acceptable for a someone to pay cash to buy all the rarest enhancements that it may have taken another player months of effort to earn, then it follows that all of my above examples should be fine as well.
If XP, levels, badges, etc. for cash is not acceptable to you, but enhancements are, I'm genuinely curious as to why..
ETA: What about Incarnate slots and powers? I really hate grinding those trials over & over to get all those tier 4 powers. Why not spend some cash and bypass all that?
Quote:^^ this.
I also am genuinely curious about what "win" means in this game. Myself and others have asked this exact question in this thread, and so far I haven't seen one person tell me what it is to "win" in City of Heroes.
Quote:The point that chaps peoples' hides is the idea that the store can be used to obtain advantages not available in game. (And yes, with enhancement boosters, that shark has alreay been jumped.)
There are a number of people who get the most fun out of the game by trying to make their characters as powerful as possible. These people tend to get upset when this requires store-bought upgrades, and understandably so - that sort of thing is common in true F2P games, but relatively rare in hybrid models.Quote:I'd be pretty uncomfortable if Purple/PVP IO's were sold in the Paragon Market... I can see the point that third party RMT shouldn't be enabled and this is a way to circumvent it, but I hardly think that these kinds of measures should be taken to prevent something I have literally never encountered in game.
The reason I have a problem with paying cash for the best enhancements is that simply put, a lot of people (myself included) have worked very hard to get some of that nice stuff.
If this ever happens I can say that I will never post up any of my personal builds on the forums again, for example. As of right now if anyone wanted to copy a really nice build (or aspects of a build,) it would require an investment of time generating the funds to do so. Now, what, any Jo Schmo can see something, shell out some cash for it, and bam! It's theirs.
I've heard the argument that no one else should have an impact on how I play the game, but the reality is that this sort of would. I have some stuff I've picked up and used effectively that took me time to get, and I'm proud of that.
For instance, I saved up Villain Merits for 2 months for a level 10 Gladiator's Armor IO. It took a long time and I felt like I earned it. If everyone could go and shell out 10 bucks for it, that would invalidate some of my game time to me. Now, if you don't/wouldn't feel the same way, that's perfectly fine- This is just how I feel about the situation and I wanted to take a minute to express that. -
Well, if it wasn't for this requirement, it would be Crab Spiders. 3 Spiderlings, 2 Disruptors & the Arachnobot Blaster from Mace Mastery. With enough recharge they can be effectively perma-pets, but they do need to be resummoned each time when they expire.

Quote:Here ya go.. Keep in mind, that I don't believe that these showing up the way they currently do is intentional and that these could very easily change before becoming available for purchase.Guys how can I find out info on the new AT sets for a scrapper thanks
You can view them all by searching for them at the auction house.
-
Quote:They're viewable on the auction house in-game. There are separate versions of all rare, purple and PvP IO enhancements marked as both Attuned and Account Bound. They have new graphics as well to further differentiate them from the existing ones.I think you are reading too much in to all this. I think the Attuned mechanic is a cover-all for all IO's; that is, it's just a flag that causes said enhancement to stay at your level. I highly doubt the devs went in and made an entire copy of the current IO sets and individually marked them all Attuned/Bound.
-
I am hesitant to read too much into this, but unfortunately the cynical side of me is finding it hard not to.
The new AT specific IO sets that were screencapped back during beta can be seen on the auction house market in-game. I'm assuming this is a bug as they are not supposed to be able to be sold or traded, and they are listed as 'Account Bound' and 'Attuned'.
I'd hazard a guess that these will be going live very soon.
The part of this that worries me however, is that you can also now see 'Account Bound' & 'Attuned' versions of all the rarest IO's, PvP IO's and Purples as well.
LotG's, Miracles, Numinas, all the purples, all the PvP IO's..
I hate to jump to conclusions, and I really hope I am wrong, but I don't think I want to be part of a game where all a player has to do is shell out some cash and buy the most powerful builds possible. -
-
Quote:I'm not entirely sure exactly what you're referring to here. The only TF's that give enhancements as a reward type that I know of are the STF & LRSF that give you a choice of a random Hamidon Origin enhancement. So I played in a number of teamed story arcs and Task Forces over the weekend and I noticed that no matter what enhancement reward I clicked on at the end, I never recieved it (I always chose the Accuracy enhancement, but one never dropped into my tray). What's going on?
Perhaps you're referring to the Death From Below trial? That gives players a choice of temporary powers at completion, not enhancements.
Quote:Your choice of one of four temporary powers. The powers last for one week in-game or until level 22:
