Discussion: English forum changes underway!

In an effort to make navigating the English City of Heroes Freedom™ Forums a simpler, more enjoyable experience for all, including our new players, we will be changing a couple of things on Friday, October 21st, 2011.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect to see on that day:

  • A lot of recruitment threads get cross posted between the Supergroup & Villaingroup Recruitment forums and the Servers forums. In order to encourage the usage of the Servers forums, we will be deprecating the Supergroup & Villaingroup Recruitment forums.
  • Similarly, many events get cross posted between the Player Events forums, the Servers forums and the Calendar. To simplify matters further, the Player Events forums will be retired.
  • The PvP Questions, Guides & Builds forums and the PvP Zones/PvP Arena forums will be consolidated in order to gather all PvP related information into a single forum.
  • The Screenshots & Fan creations forums and the Multi-Media City of Heroes and Villains forums will be consolidated into one Fan Creations forum.

We understand that some of you will feel strongly about these coming changes and we really hope you understand the importance of having an accessible environment for all, veterans and new players alike. We have a great community, but joining a new forum can be a bit daunting, especially one as labyrinthine as ours.

Please note that we wil help move threads from the Player Events and Supergroup & Villaingroup Recruitment forums to a different forum section upon request.

Thank you for your understanding!

Looks very reasonable.

Thanks for soliciting our feedback and taking our concerns to heart with regard to the AT specific forums.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Can gladiators be moved to the PVP forums too? Please?

They are more related to PVP than Badges anyway.

Any thought of moving General Discussions and the rest of "For Fun" above AT and Servers?

I haven't ever seen them used for anything but heal badge farming.

i like the changes as presented. Like the discussion that preceded them they seem quite reasonable, and also show that the Mods are willing to listen to the players. Kudos.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

Regardless of what it is, it's been going on for over a year now. It is way overdue for a fix.

Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

Indeed. Well played by Zwill and the rest of the community team.

This time last year, I was speaking with theOcho about this change and how Repeat Offenders and other multi-server groups, would be handled or what options we would have.

So what do you recommend multi-server groups do in regards to SG recruitment? Posting up duplicate threads on the various server seems like a lot of repetition and if I'm not mistaken, is against the forum rules.

Last thing we were told was "It's a known vbulletin issue. If you want to see it fixed, pester vbulletin on their forums."

I was about to ask a similar question. I know when we started Guardians of Soul Society, we didn't publish it on the server forum. Mostly because we didn't know which server it was going to be on.

Personally I think the SG/VG Recruitment should be left as it is.

As far as the PvP forum consolidation idea, you mean to tell me ppl still PvP? And talk about it on the forums?

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

I am outraged! Your decision to make reasonable changes that don't seem to hurt anybody is a SLAP IN THE FACE to people who want to complain on the forums.

As you've doubtless noticed from forum activities, that's the vast majority of your forum-using player base.

I wonder if a single forum for global events and recruitment (SG recruitment and Event Forums combined) would be better than nixing them entirely.

I understand the idea, but I thought there were some good cases for keeping something dedicated for global announcements.

Barring a dedicated forum for it... where is best for such things? The main City Life board?
I mean, really, thinking about it... that actually makes sense, no?

Doesn't a Mod usually post multi-server events so that it would be seen in the Mod Digest? The announcement would go into Announcements and the discussion can either go in Announcement Discussion or City Life.

While it maybe a vbulletin issue, it has been solved by a dozen other forums I visit. Vbulletin is customizable for a reason. Just because it was a vbullentin problem doesn't mean, the COH forum admins can't fix it. I know for a fact they can. This problem continuing is a case of COH forum's Admins being extremely lazy/cheap.

This.

I do share others concerns about the lack of a cross-server recruiting forum. It's been a long time but back when I used to join super teams often times the specific server was up to a majority vote. It wasn't known at the time of the event posting.

I'm sure other more general areas can be used for the same purpose. Without a specific area for event posting though, I suspect recruitment will become more difficult with events getting pushed down the list by other posts. It's less ideal than what we have now. I'm sure we'll all manage though.

If you "know for a fact" they can fix it, PM them the fix. If you don't actually know the details, give them the contact info for the boards it's been fixed at.
