The second time they shut down the remaining servers that were in the game at launch and transfered every single account to brand new improved servers.

And for some unknown reason they chose to reuse a few of the names of the old servers.

If you take time to read up on the second server consolidation that was done in September, you would know that EVERY SINGLE PLAYER CHARACTER was run through a checking algorythim against other characters before ALL characters were moved into brand new super severs. During the check, if there were duplicate names... the checking program followed a complex set of rules to decide who got to keep a name and who had to rename.

Personally I think it was a stupid idea to reuse the old server names for just this reason. Using the old names just confuses people into thinking they are entitled to a name because they think they are still on the original server and have seniority when they don't.
    Actually, you're wrong.

The destination servers (of which my server was one) were upgraded and all the others were merged into them.

The server consolidation process is the latest step in our on-going server population balancing efforts, which began with the Free Character Transfer Program. The process involves the migration of the populations of several specific origin servers onto larger, Higher Population destination servers. A large majority of these servers were originally targeted as destination servers during the Free Character Transfer Program, and have been upgraded in order to support a significantly higher number of players. By centralizing our player populations on these Higher Population destination servers, we feel that we can offer our players the best possible Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ experience.

My wife will have to rename her character (when she gets bored with GW2 and goes back) and she's on the same server we started on back at launch; some people have a right to complain.

I guess my problem is that no-one ACTS like there's anything at stake. Sure, Kodiak goes out of his way to explain why a psi-bomb exploding in the West Side is bad... I played CO at the start - from beta for about 4 months solidly after launch; I remember the content being pretty poor (and sparse) compared to CoH; I hated that you didn't start in the city (they've changed it so you do) and I hated some of the later zones - Monster Island? Hated it. Underwater-zone? Hated it.

I was really struggling liking the game's stories until they added Vibora Bay - that one zone pretty much saved the game for me; the story and the way it's told was unlike anything else in the game: stuff happens, people are affected - at least for a while.

I haven't played much since. I really didn't relish playing through the content again with a new character; despite being an altoholic here and despite owning an LTS to that game, I've always preferred coming here for my superhero kicks. I know they've added a fair bit of content to CO the last couple of years, but I haven't managed to stay in-game long enough to try it - I tend to log in then log out 10 minutes later and boot CoH.

Once dropping in here is no longer an option, I'll give CO more of an effort - I just hope the new stuff more like Vibora Bay than the rest of the game.

Nope they're still quite different - when I reactivated my EU account (pre freedom), I used a US 'welcome back code' thinking we were all one big happy family now. It broke my account; it was active but I couldn't buy anything in the store (just when all the boosters were on sale), it took support a week to work out what the heck I'd done as from their end there didn't seem to be a problem.

    This, absolutely this.

Unless of course you don't have a test version of the site and you are fiddling about with the live one, playing 'what does this do' with the CSS.

The fix is supposed to set it to 14 days? Well that's better than the "every time I visit the forum" which I have currently, but why does the cookie have to expire at all?

Really, why bake a detail on like that? That head is great, but it would be a lot better if the antennae weren't obligatory and available to use elsewhere.

Though I guess if no-one is bothered by Valkyrie using a spear she never spears enemies with, I have no argument.
Oh I dunno, I think poking the end of a staff into someone's gut would work (as an attack animation) whether it had a spear head or not

    I did not say, however:

    3) I won't buy them

They look bloody stupid in Anime, they look bloody stupid in Final Fantasy and they look bloody stupid here.

    I'll probably still make one.

They could even use the neat phasing stuff so people who have seen him die, could no longer see him in Steel Canyon unless teamed with a lowbie...

    1. Only competitions that include the entire player base are acceptable
    2. standard rules and regulations must be altered to accommodate non-North American players.
Ultimately, Paragon Studios took the commercial decision to run with this comp, knowing it was exclusive. That's fine, if it was a one off, but what really gets up my nose here is that this has happened many times in the past, and the rest of the world just doesn't count when it comes to PS.
Why would they turn down all that great publicity just to appease a vocal minority of players? Just accept this is the way of the world and move on.

Did you notice that MMORPG.com is currently giving away 30 day jetpack codes to NA and EU players?

Take one of those and be happy.

Pretty much this; you even have to fly in a cheap seat!

Maybe Posi should fly over to Europe and give everybody a haircut to make up for this outrage?

(Is this an outrage, or just a slap in the face? I can never tell)

I haven't looked to see how many points $15 would buy - does that include the 400 VIP points you'd lose?

I would replay that arc in a HEARTBEAT if that option existed. I'd love this.

There's a (Council, I think) tip mission, where at the end, you can listen to the mastermind blather at you over a radio; I take pleasure in switching it off as he starts (it never gets old for me), punching a villain partway through his monologue and shutting the bugger up would be just awesome.

Yes, the whole idea of 'fixed points in time' is a ridiculous bit of writing oneself into a corner; you end up with a story about a guy with a time machine who can't change time, can't actually affect anything: pointless.

I expect that 'rule' to be ret-conned away & quietly forgotten in the future.

    Or possibly the past.

Ah, I didn't read it like that, it's possible... and yes, sorry, my bad, I'll stop comparing (although being able to do that in the past was one of the reasons I used to love this forum).

You could make fire blasters very different by swapping the secondary I guess, but the set up on the primary will be very similar... as with all games though there are the cookie-cutter builds, the more-awesome than most combinations... I don't suppose there's much variation when it comes to fire/kin controllers, and I used to suspect that at least half of all controllers out there was fire/kin. :/

I suspect I've gone way off on a tangent here though, so I'll shut up now!

Granted, things might have changed; it's been a couple of years. I know my fire guy was unusual when I made him (I didn't see many all-fire mages) but I gather it's now a 'valid' choice. Still, unless things have changed really drastically, you should still be able to make 3 completely different characters in the same class, so my point stands I think.
