Who will Die: Before it's too late...

To Rednames:

Is it possible to set up ANY kind of system where the players get to determine "Who Will Die?" A vote in altering the course of the game's lore is certainly something worth money to me (although, full disclosure, I'm a VIP).

Preferably something like: in the penultimate mission, the mission holder gets dialogue with each of the Phalanx or Surviving 8, and chooses one to perform a Heroic Sacrifice? Or Redside, gets to push the button on one before the climactic rescue/malfunction? The resulting 'votes' would be tallied and the aftermath dealt with in the final mission...

Heck, I'll take buying votes in the store, a forum poll, anything.

If we can get a storyline a year where we can divert the path of the future, I beleive that will generate enormous good will (and revenue) for the game: who else does that?

If I can briefly mention other companies without being modded, I'll just drop AEG, that did it with a tabletop game, LARP, and card game (even when the players found an unexpected Third Option), and Microsoft that did it (for a while) with an MMO.

...please?

I think on one of the UStrems, Posi said they knew Who Would Die before they even started writing the missions (IIRC).

I am aware; and I understand that backtracking and making that choice 'flexible' would be a HUGE PANCAKING HASSLE.

...I just think it would be worth it.

We've already determined the story, so someone's death is, as they may say, destined to occur.

We do, however, have other plans for Community involvement with the story/lore later down the road.

Stay tuned!

I just want to make a character called James... for the final mission. So my team-mates can inform my toon that said said signature character has expired

No, and no, unless they're willing to grant my request to kill the entire Freedom Phalanx.

Realize I'm opening both of us up for modding, but I'm curious what you're thinking of here; the only thing I can think of that comes close is the Defense of the Shard in AC.

We're all gonna die.

One day, you'll be logged into CoH, whether in a zone or a trial or in a mission or whatever. All of a sudden and all at once, all players and all critters everywhere will have their HP set to zero. You won't be able to rez, or go to the hospital, or to your base.

Everyone dies!!!

I'm personally "All In" on Statesman biting it, big time. For one thing, nothing else that could possibly happen would shake either Emperor Cole or Lord Recluse (or even Reichsman, for that matter) to their core like The Death Of Statesman would.

It would also explain why the Well of the Furies on Primal Earth is ... hedging its bets ... by allowing its power to be tapped *WIDELY* rather than narrowly, as we've seen in so many other Dimensional Variations of Earth. Or to put it into Meta-game terms ... it'll be Up To The Players to step forward to fill the void left by Statesman following his death.

Plus I still *HATE* what Jack Emmert did with the Global Defense Nerf and Enhancement Dysfunction double whammy ... YEARS (plural!) before a solution was developed to compensate (now known as Issue 9). So I'm a bit ... biased ... in cheering on The Death Of Statesman.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

But then Sorina Tavarisch would be miserable... *sighs*

However... I *MIGHT* forgive them for killing off Positron if they managed to do so in a fantastically brilliant story... the odds of which happening are so abysmally low that I expect him to be around for a while.

Having a "Rocks Fall Everyone Dies" ending just blows whales.

The odds of any story that needs to hype the death of a major character to get people interested being fantastically brilliant are so abysmally low that it's more likely we'll get a fantastically brilliant story starring Fusionette.

Simply becuase they went to the effort of redoing his TF, I don't think Posi is on the cards.

I thought they used player levels to show the passage of time in stories?

The way I understand it, Posi could be simultaneously handing out his TF to lowbies and dead to level 50s.

They could even use the neat phasing stuff so people who have seen him die, could no longer see him in Steel Canyon unless teamed with a lowbie...

They do - which is why Admiral Sutter's TF is in the wrong level range

How are any of them still alive after the LRSF? Statesman even talks to you differently if you have that badge when you talk to him in the alpha incarnate arc, so that means they didn't die from it.

I guess that answered my own question, lol but that begs a different one. Why wouldn't the villains kill them in the LRSF? What was the point?

So is Twinshot's last one, either that or they need to switch it and the "mirror mirror" arc around. As it is now, if you do Twinshots stories and then mirror mirror, the govt is STILL confused by the use of the word "clockwork" because they don't know they are praetorian robots.

Your character should be able to say "I have information relevant to this conversation!" lol

That notion was in the Black Knight "not dead yet" territory long before i21; the fall of Galaxy City makes it officially Deader Than Disco.
