  1. A reply to my enquiry to Zwilinger on the subject has revealed that they have no plans to remove the bio's of States or Sister Psyche for many reasons, chief among them being their place in game lore. They may at some point update them to reflect their current standing but that's yet to be determined.

    Thanks for the info Z!
  2. I've had to seek assistance getting out of a room I got myself into. It's on an Oranbega map too, I'd got all turned around when I entered it and couldn't recall going through a darkened tunnel. When I looked there later I just saw it as a dead end. The GM must have chuckled when they pointed it out to me. That was embarrassing.
  3. "Praetoria stands at the location of Hamidon's first great defeat at the hands of Marcus Cole, the man who proved to the world that the Devouring Earth could be beaten. Cole dedicated himself to the Earth's protection in this place, and it was here that Cole drew his line in the sand against the Devouring Earth. He established the city of Praetoria as a stronghold for those who suffered at the hands (and claws, fangs, and tentacles) of the Devouring Earth." - ParagonWiki (clickie)

Good write-up under the background section. I recall it's supposed to be somewhere down Central America way or further south, but I could be way off on that.

I wouldn't want to bring that side of things into it. Trying to keep things within the bounds of the game. If a great hero like Statesman falls, it seems the thing to do in Paragon City is to raise a statue in their honour. It would be pretty out of tradition not to really.

We do have access to time-travel.
  6. There seems to be some consensus that Statesman is dead-for-good with the return of Sister Psyche more plausible and acceptable if it did happen. As for the bio's, a few of us, myself included, see the need to have them at least rewritten and possibly replaced. Potentials for replacements include BaB's, Citadel, Penny Yin and Statesman II.

I like the idea of in-game statues of the fallen to commemorate them. There are plenty of places where a nondescript building could be replaced with a mighty memorial to Statesman or Sister Psyche. Atlas Park seems like it already has it's fair share of giant statues, where would we have our fitting reminder of States erected?
  7. If we were to have to predict the most likely outcome of this based on past behaviour then I think you'd be on the right track Sam with expecting it to remain as is, and inconsistent.

Of course as Vanden points out, there is the whole comic-book 'they were never really dead dead' angle. I believe this has kinda been denied by the developers (maybe), but even so Marvel and DC give us plenty of examples of denial followed by resurrection.

So if Statesman and Sister Psyche are both really dead dead then the unchanged Game Info bio's would be an example of the need for stronger editing and meshing of the in-game and out of game background info. If Vanden is onto something and the two Freedom Phalanx members will be back then there would be no need to change the Game Info in the relatively short interim period.

Plenty of room for theorising. Would there be any characters you'd want to see listed in their place if they are gone for good?
  8. Full disclosure: I predominantly play solo now but used to play in PUG's as my predominant form of teaming.

I would never have stuck with this game, or any other, if I'd had to have waited for up to an hour to team. When I first started teaming I used to be guilty of playing Hot Potato with the star if the leader left, but then I read a thread like this and decided to give it a shot and lead myself.

Mainly I would lead mission PUG's, sometimes it would be a fairly random selection of whatever players had available, other times it would be a dedicated run through a contact's story arcs. My favourite time as leader would have to be the Giant Monster PUG team that downed Adamastor, Paladin, Lusca and more one fine Saturday. Took only about 5 minutes to form the team after sending out the broadcast (this surprised me given the nature of the task) and we were soon knee-deep in the broken bits of GM's.

As people have said it takes very little to 'lead' in this game, a few core principles, the ability to communicate well, to make hard decisions (i.e. kicking trouble-makers) and to fall back and make a new plan when the first doesn't succeed are all you need.

Yes, CoX has spoiled us something rotten with the ease of teaming. If somebody finds it hard to get a team, I'd say they're doing it wrong.
  9. It's easy to agree with you Sam. The issue then would be the need for a rewrite of the text because as it stands it's written as if they are still alive and well. For example straight from line one of Statesman's bio, "Statesman is one of the first heroes of Paragon City." That 'is' should be a 'was', past tense.
  10. So I noticed that under Game Info on the official site the Signature Heroes still list Statesman and Sister Psyche. I wondered if this was intended as portraying the status quo before their ... unfortunate demise, or if these pages would be updated? Perhaps they might background that oft overlooked hero of the Phalanx Citadel or Penny Yin who's image is splashed all over the forum now.

Does anyone know? If nobody does, what would you want?

I can picture Golden Girl going on Griever Patrol. *nods*
  12. I remember riding those trains, they work, and run generally on time. Important stuff. I also remember lovely food at a variety of places I visited when over there for HeroCon, yummy.

Ya know what I remember most though? The awesome people I met. So "Hi," to all that remember me and I hope that everyone going to the Summit has a great time with plenty of Heroey or Villany goodness.

My year's been pretty rubbish, earthquakes trashing the city I moved to, having to move out of said city, finding a job being like asking for a trillion dollars from the Federal Reserve when you're not a Wall St trading firm. All in all sucky. So this means I won't be making a quick jaunt up from New Zealand this time around. All the best of fun-times to those that do make it!

Yes, I caught that, but I still hold NCSoft/Paragon responsible for the choice of taking up that opportunity with its restrictions. My argument is aimed at the much wider issue of all competitions held for this game, rather than this one in particular anyways. Most of which are independantly arranged by NCSoft/Paragon for which they would have full control of such things.

Would it help if we each researched our own countries competition laws and forwarded the information to them? A team effort perhaps.
  14. Hello Paragon City! I have returned from the seclusion of my Killbot-lair to state my views on this topic. We're all familiar with the argument that competitions on a global scale require compliance with each nations laws, what's a shame is that the effort this would require is seen as too much.

Surely a one-off compliance initiative would allow these competitions to be held on a much wider scale, then just a relatively small effort to maintain compliance would be needed with each new comp.

The last 'pet peeve' of mine (read: difference of opinion with NCSoft / Paragon) was over in-game ads and we all now know those didn't work out as planned. For that I was willing to plonk down my own money to fly around the world to be within earshot of the decision-makers for a brief beer-addled chat. Skype may be cheaper but doesn't carry the same weight as a personal visit. This time around the fiscal *%^$-fest that is the economy won't allow that, but if I could I would do it again.

C'mon Paragon, if ya won't do it me, do it for the world!
  15. This extremely generous donation to help the people affected by what must be one of the worst natural disasters in history is very touching. It shows the spirit of heroism, compassion and a desire to assist those in need.

    Nice job NCSoft.
  16. Having been caught in the recent Christchurch earthquakes I can't imagine the devastating effect these events are having on Japan and her people. My thoughts are with those who are in Japan or have friends and family there.

    Kia Kaha Japan.
  17. Hi everyone,

Christchurch has been shattered by this most recent quake, and unfortunately we have not escaped without loss of life like the one last year. Personally, myself and my loved ones in Chch are unhurt and our houses mostly intact, for that I am truly thankful. We have no power or running water at our house currently but our city council and all the international forces who have come to our aid are working really hard to restore services and search for any remaining survivors in the wreckage.

I was at work in the central business district when the quake hit and it was definately one of the most frightening experiences of my life. Our building lurched uncontrollably for 30 seconds or so, computers, equipment, filing cabinets and desks took on a life of their own and they flew across the office or crashed to the floor. Then the lights went out. As the dust settled we led customers out of the store and saw the devastation all around. It will be a long time before things can begin to return to any semblance of normality, but the people of Christchurch are strong-willed and determined to bring their city back from the brink.

Thanks for your thoughts of conern and sympathy.

  19. Thanks. Aftershocks continue between 3 and 5.4 in magnitude. Work was meant to resume today but a big one at 7:54am put an end to that plan. Buildings shaken up, so far no loss of life. Getting a little tired of the ground moving though, it can stop now.

Heheh, well, although strutting is preprogrammed on all Killbot models 2009 and above, that is a Walk/Sprint macro, I use it for both. It occaissionally makes life interesting when I hit it accidentally in combat!

All the enemies in the paper missions were CoT mages, and they put up little Resistance.

Yeah, I was aware they weren't new, but two the same, now what are the odds of that, and on the brink of the Going Rogue release! The coincidence was too much for me to pass up without sharing. It gave me a little thrill anyways.

So, I'm burning through paper missions redside on my namesake toon the Killbot 5000, when I encounter this:

    (click for fullsize image)

Considering the timing of the release of GR in the next few days I found this quirk of the game magnificent!

I don't think three days out from release too early to start chanting 'Going Rogue, Going Rogue!'
  23. The video was cool, much more revealed of Praetoria, the photos also reveal TPN (Tyrant Propaganda Network or Television Programmed News, you decide) and one really heavy clockwork in action. All good stuff. The info about tip missions clarifies a lot about how they'll work, some people will like this, some won't.

The broken links and necromancy slip-ups, more the fault of IGN than Paragon Studios, were glaring and unfortunate.

    Bring on Going Rogue!

I will relate this anecdote: An American in EnZed was asked about the 4th of July by his Kiwi co-workers... why the big celebration? "It's the day we celebrate whupping the Pommies!" he responded. An impromptu party promptly broke out, with the Yanks and Kiwis hoisting toasts. I was bemused by this story.

It is appropriate for all freedom-loving peoples everywhere to celebrate. "God Bless America" and "God Defend New Zealand"!
We Kiwi's aren't above celebrating when the English get theres. I'm all for celebrating freedom too, just so long as it's not the Bush kind of pseudo-freedom that includes decreased civil liberties.

Happy 4th to all those celebrating!
