Bit late posting this here, but echoing Father Xmas' sentiments. I have many friends and family in Chch and fortunately everyone is OK. But seeing the photos of places I knew growing up have been tough. Best wishes everyone.

Thanks. Aftershocks continue between 3 and 5.4 in magnitude. Work was meant to resume today but a big one at 7:54am put an end to that plan. Buildings shaken up, so far no loss of life. Getting a little tired of the ground moving though, it can stop now.

Hi everyone,

Christchurch has been shattered by this most recent quake, and unfortunately we have not escaped without loss of life like the one last year. Personally, myself and my loved ones in Chch are unhurt and our houses mostly intact, for that I am truly thankful. We have no power or running water at our house currently but our city council and all the international forces who have come to our aid are working really hard to restore services and search for any remaining survivors in the wreckage.

I was at work in the central business district when the quake hit and it was definately one of the most frightening experiences of my life. Our building lurched uncontrollably for 30 seconds or so, computers, equipment, filing cabinets and desks took on a life of their own and they flew across the office or crashed to the floor. Then the lights went out. As the dust settled we led customers out of the store and saw the devastation all around. It will be a long time before things can begin to return to any semblance of normality, but the people of Christchurch are strong-willed and determined to bring their city back from the brink.

Thanks for your thoughts of conern and sympathy. If you wish to contribute to the cities recovery please make a donation through the official Red Cross Appeal website (http://www.redcross.org.nz/cms_display.php).
