Any good non-farm story arcs?

It seems that the MA is filled - positively packed to capacity - with "Farm map!" and "Farm teh Freaks!" maps. The little that remains with very few exceptions seems to be either weak stories with poor or poorly executed ideas parsed with bad grammar and atrocious spelling, or a series of "OMG LOOK AT HOW TOUGH MY CUSTOM DOODS ARE! I MADE EVERYTHING ON EXTREME!!!!1111!!1!1!" arcs. And given that the rating system makes no discernment for WHY an arc was rated is it was, finding an arc I enjoy is becoming harder and harder as I think I've already played the three good missions in the entire thing.

So in the interest of finding reasonably balanced, interesting arcs with a decent story, I am soliciting suggestions. I would like to hear about good arcs that you have played and rated well that are NOT YOURS. I know everyone is sure their arc is the Next Great American Novel, but I'd like to hear from an unbiased third party, please!

Also, I think we can skip Dev's Choice arcs... they're already on everyone's radar.

So with that said, what good MA story arcs have you enjoyed recently?

A few things to include:

Name of the Arc?
Morality?
Brief Synopsis?
What did you like about it?

I like the fast food mish, though just a single mish. Also, the fashion police mish is funny.

See my sig. I ONLY write story-based stuff. It's largely comedy at the moment, but if I ever get another arc through DC / HOF or they add microtransactions I'll be able to get my more serious stuff posted.

I have an intro arc in my sig. There is a longer one after it if you like the single mission. Has a story. Far from a farm.

Temporal Subversion by @Xilibrius

A very fun and story driven arc.

"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

A Tangle in Time (ID: 2622) is a great deal of fun and has a very creative storyline behind it. It really should get more exposure.

Some of these might be Dev's Choice, I just don't recall:

The Legacy of Joe, the Longbow Eagle.

The Footsteps Initiative by Muu

Saul Rubenstiens Discount Task Force by Ascendent

Adventure of the Ghost Generator (3054)

Check... and Mate by @ARH

Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.

**shrugs** Good is so relative. You can try the one in my siggy if you want. People (OK, like a handful) have told me it's fun and funny, but you'd have to be the judge of that for yourself.

Ok. I'll list a couple of Arcs I've enjoyed, that had some good storytelling, some good humor, some good fights or something that made me enjoy that specific arc.

After that, I'll post a couple of links to places I've been looking at for reviews, commentary, etc. I'm sure many more such links exist as well.

Where's My Signature Character!
Arc ID: 4372
Tells a good story and uses humor effectively. Very few Custom Characters that I could tell, but you do see a lot of characters that you've likely encountered throughout your tenure in Paragon City. It's a 4 Mission arc, rated at long, but the first three missions are on small size maps. The dialogue and text are very good. The search box for this mission will give you all the information you need to know if you want to attempt it. Well worth playing IMO.

To Hell and Back
Arc ID: 1026
Humorous, and a nice small 3 mission story to just see what kind of fun can be had using the MA. Yeah, it's by one of my favorite people, but he apparently had a lot of fun making it. It gives a nice insight into how creative people can be in areas you didn't even think about them working in.

The Fall of White Plains
Arc ID: 2248
Yes, it is a 5 mission arc. Very few custom bosses to fight, but they story ... ah ... this is a very well told story. Even if you haven't read any of the stories this person has written, know nothing of the characters or their backgrounds, you feel as if you know quite a bit of their past at the end of the arc. Part of what makes them heroes. Part of what makes them care so much about Paragon City. Part of the history of Paragon City even. It meshes extremely well with the canon of the game. And such a good story. I'm glad this author is someone I consider a friend in the game, and it makes me treasure them a bit more.

I'd recommend another, but I hear it is going to be revamped soon. It's a very satirical arc, and it may work better if you know the parties involved. Still, I enjoyed it as humor. I may come to enjoy the humor in it even more very Soon™.

Now .. as for places to begin looking for reviews, commentary, or other bits of information to help you find arcs you like.

First off would have to be the official section Mission Architect : Stories and Lore part of the forums. Some very well done reviews by many different posters. After reading through some of the reviews and stuff, I'm sure you'll find some arcs you might like. You also might find some favorite reviewers to follow since they give some really good commentary with the review.

Next would be a thread on the Justice Server forums. Sure, it's mostly about arcs by Justice Players, but since the AE Datastream is cross-server, the server the author plays on isn't that important. This is the Justice Story Arc Discussion thread. I'm sure there is something similar on other servers forums, but I don't go there so can't be certain.

Next is the Justice, Announce Your MA Arcs Here! thread on the Justice Server forums. Again, the AE Datastreams are cross-server so the originating server is irrelevant. Also, I'm reasonably certain that other servers have a similar thread. Especially since this one was started by one of the Justice P.E.R.C. Representatives.

I also like to check the Community Digest for flyers that players have created for their arc. In my estimation, anyone that has put the effort into not only creating an arc but then creating a flyer and sending it to the Community Team to post for them likely takes a bit of pride in what they've created, so it's likely not going to be something that's a total waste of my time. And if it isn't something I enjoy, I'm more likely to remember the person since I'll have the flyer as a reminder. I'll likely consider that what they create isn't a style I enjoy and be more able to avoid it in the future.

Anyway, good hunting in finding arcs you enjoy. More good ones are likely coming out soon, and I'm sure we may have better stories coming as we get more tools available to us and people learn how to hone their use of the MA in expressing their creativity.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I'd suggest my arc. 2 story mission with fun enemies and a good story. Arc ID: 36357 - Robotic Mayhem

No huge maps, forced bosses, uber AV's. Just a nice story that can be enjoyed by everyone, although you might get ambushed a few times :-)

Try doing a seach on the word "story". More and more creators are learning to put key words into their descriptions. The last line of my story descriptions usually reads something like : "story-driven, solo-friendly, horror, no EB/AV"

I enjoyed playing Nexus Part 1 by @Nibb Nibb because it involved great story-telling.

Bellisaria, that is a great idea. I'll have to incorporate that into my published and soon to be published arcs.

I'm afraid this isn't published yet, but I have a good feeling about this one. my goal from the start is story, and I try to refine as much as possible. I apologize for what may be excessive text.

I have the first two missions more or less complete, with only a few cosmetics on those, but I intend to add two more missions.

I'm with you. It took all of two days to get completely fed up with farms, so I made my own. It's the one in my sig. Give it a whirl.

I guess I will suggest my arc, it is a "serious" story, magic themed:

The Legacy of Tfarkevol, ID 59206 iirc

Mine is a story arc, it is a fairy tale...so not exactly for everyone, but definitely story driven. Posted in my sig

None of mine are farms... but I'm happiest with #1288: Villainous Values.

There's a lot of arcs in the MA that aren't farms, though...

My one arc, which I've been trying to spruce up, is a non-farm arc, soloable, and of medium length with a real story. It uses custom villains, and I spent most of the time working on dialog so that it feels like a real story. It's arc #30821, A Clean Break. I'm dying for other people to try it and give some feedback so I can make it better.

Arc ID#30821, A Clean Break

The only problem with defeating the Tsoo is that an hour later, you want to defeat them again!

Same here. The Punkinator (do a search I doubt that name is used much) is story based. Starts out serious then gets (hopefully) funny by end.

Moderate soloablility (because you may not be a Scrapper). 1 EB but an ally who can help a LOT if you use him right. 1 annoying Thugs boss though (bring Lucks lol).

This may end up being a good thread to do missions off of. Although Farm/not Farm is a funny term in MA. A story driven arc can have all the same elements as a farm just with a story. I have run into a few fun farms to solo too due to the tactics needed. A farm with a legitimate reason to be doing what you are doing is OK with me. Not every story needs to have a dozen turns and a mile of text. I set up one specifically so my 26 AR/Dev Corruptor can solo bosses and mobs at Relentless. Its no walkover for him at that level but I'm sure it would be for others. Fighting white mobs stinks.

What I object to are missions packed with so called allies who steal all my exp and tickets. Too many or too powerful allies don't make the mission easier, they make it pointless.

You can't please everyone, so lets concentrate on me.

Since we seem to be promoting our own arcs anyway, #33969 "The Dakman Cometh" is a story based arc. there are a few defeat all missions, but they are all on small maps and you would have to defeat the enemies on 2 of them anyway, they are all story related defeat alls. There is an EB at the end but you ahve an ally to help out. It's also part 1 in a series. Please give it a try and leave some feedback.
