Discussion: New City of Heroes Website!
Well, I like the redesign. Yes it's a little cluttered. Text is a little difficult over the backgrounds.
Whoopty Doo!!
I take this as more of a "we're showing our community that we are still going forward with this game, despite all the D00M WHINERS!!"
Partially flawed site, fully instilled hope for the future.
I am now off my kick to clean up the background. Thanks to AdBlock add-on in Firefox, I can do that myself.
Here's what a 'clean' version of the website looks like.

Ooooooo .... pretty. I hereby vote for Zombie_Man as our new official Fan Webmaster!
I really like that background graphic though (so much so that I edited it into a new splash screen for the game), but I will agree that the text boxes are a little rough on the eyes.
It looks great. Very well done. Nothing else needs be said about it.
Well, I'll grant that it's pretty. It stretches my screen though maybe only about 1/8th of an inch (the distance between the left-side menu and the left edge of the screen approximately), but anything that puts the scroll left<->right bar on my screen makes me a sad panda.
I wouldn't look askance at news that the in-game graphics were gonna get a smooth facelift like this though...
[i]EDIT: I Adblock'd the background image like Zombie_Man, and I gotta say it looks alot better overall. The image is pretty and all (I saved a copy of course to maybe put on the splash page or something later), but the information on the website is a great deal easier to view at a glance with the plain black background. Thanks for the idea Zombie.
Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

I really love it!
Classy.
Integrates the theme well into the design.
Took several of the more useful features of the old website and made them more accessible.
Great job!
One interesting thing: when I run the game launcher, the HTML components appear briefly and then blank out. Before the website update, the same thing happened, but the images would appear and remain after I moused over them. Now, it just stays blank.
This is under Vista if that helps.
Bug:
The dynamically generated text images do not function in Google Chrome v0.2.149.30
in Firefox
in Internet Explorer
in Google Chrome
Why is this plain text being rendered as an image? It's obviously being generated by some PHP script. Note the url for the "Read More" image:
<font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>/facelift/generate.php?
text=Read%20More&h=16&
w=440&fstyle[mode]=wrap&
fstyle[resizeBox]=true&
fstyle[useBackgroundMethod]=false&
fstyle[inheritStyle]=true&
fstyle[cssSize]=11&
fstyle[cssColor]=rgb(97, 129, 153)&
fstyle[cssFont]=trebuchet ms&
fstyle[cssAlign]=auto&
fstyle[realFontHeight]=true&
fstyle[dpi]=96&
fstyle[tag]=A</pre><hr />
Following the url to the image, it appears the Content-type header isn't being sent as any image format, so all the browsers are rendering the image data as text (which is gibberish) when trying to look at the image directly. I can only assume then that it's *shudder* doing inline image data.
But even besides the point of the text being broken in GC, why is plain, normal text being turned into an image?
- This makes things more difficult for search engines
- This slows the page load time
- It prevents you from copy-pasting the image "text"
- It's unaffected by text size changes from the user
^ That's real bad web design practice, y'all
- It causes unnecessary and unexpected alt text to pop up
- It could be done with normal text and some CSS styles.
Edit: Fixed code block
Also, it seems the bug can be worse, though refreshing the page often fixes it, not being active on the page for a minute or so and then visiting it causes the bug again.

Arrrrgh, I fear change! Hold me.
Actually seems okay so far. The headlines seem a bit exaggerated to my eye, and the tiled news/ad blocks with very little bordering them tend to blend into the busy background. They could use stronger borders at least. Fonts seem good. Captain Mako is ugly. The 14-day-free-trial box should change frames a little more slowly.
Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Same here as well. Could be just cuz my comp is older. If I could get a link to the account page, I'll be happy. I've tried loading the frontpage 11 times so far in an attempt to successfully click the Account page link....with screen freezes each time...
I am a function over fancy kinda gal...so a fancy page is not interesting to me at all. Not that I wish to deny others their shiny bootiful page...I just wanna be able to access what I need, which I cannot do with the monster they have up right now.
Edit: Wow how blind am I?! Didn't even notice the account link -right- on the game loader...*bonks self*
Looks 10,000 times better
I like it. My work comp has no troubles with it so far.

I love the new website. Very clean and straightforward. Easy to use too. Even the CoH Client loads on my computer now fully instead, of just a Next Button.
So as I was scanning through, I noticed that on the very bottom, you have these logos.
Cryptic Studios
Creative Sound Blaster
Intel Pentium Processors
And then I see the ATI Radeon Graphics logo.
I wonder if this means that something is in store in relation to ATI graphics? Because originally, it was an Nvidia logo.

Very nice. If they ditched the cityscape but kept the figures, that would work too.

Love the new design. Looks great so far. I've been working way too much lately so I guess I'll have to delve into it tomorrow more when I only work one shift.

Whomever suggested tweaking the server status page so that it's all visible without scrolling, damn fine idea there! I agree. Whether changing the graphic or what, dunno... but as an overall ideal, I'd always go with functionality first and pretty second. And I mean that in the constructive way.
