and poorly imitates the simple-but-functional effectiveness of the
old version.

The "blockiness" of the graphics used looks full of seams, very
unnatural and rough, and the choice of an image background,
makes them contrast very poorly with it, like a bad cut and
paste job.

The news feed needs to be at the top somehow, like the old
version provided. Pushing it down to make room for the
"LEARN MORE" part is bad design.

Is this a work in progress, or the final version? Because it
looks very alpha right now.

I agree with all of this and will also add that the "Server Status" page is pretty ridiculous. We don't need a huge picture of Sates by every server, and we don't want to scroll down a whole page to see if Test is up. In fact, we don't need a server status page. We need a server status block in the upper right corner of the main page.

Needs more negative space; fewer huge, flashy pictures; rounded edges on the blocks; and smaller fonts.

I also agree. The web page looks very amateur-ish to be honest. I appreciate the work you are doing but hope you can put a little more into it.

No, so I can sell it and buy some respec recipes for my Defender that burns through 3 respecs a month. And he doesn't farm. And I've run the ITF a total of one times. And I don't play villains, and I've never made a Kinetics character.

I wouldn't say it is a bad PR move, especially the way he phrased it. He said that if you want to see it NOW you can download an alternative browser. The fact that you do not like any of the other browsers and insist on running an old browser that is quite frankly, crap, is not a reason to be ticked at them. In some cases, yes, you don't have the option of upgrading your browser. For example, people on corporate PCs may be prevented from upgrading their browser.

Firefox is a much better, and faster browser than IE in almost every category, not to mention more secure. It is also possible to use themes in Firefox to make it look pretty much like IE. Honestly, I would agree about not upgrading to IE7, in some respects. I do not like the layout of IE7 at all. You have to make a choice though. See the new site right away using an alternative browser, or wait until they get around to fixing the site for IE6. If you decide to remain on IE6, keep in mind that you may not be ABLE to view the new site. Depending on how they have written it, those functions may simply not exist in IE6.

You either need to upgrade your browser or feed the hamster in the big metal box I reckon. Or get one of them new-fangled Pentiums I hear the kids talking about.

But yes, looks like NCNC forgot to code for IE6. In their defense, it's a shame people still need to support that "malware hotel" of a browser. Of course, I'm completely biased against MS browsers in general, so take that as you will.

IE versions 3-6 are not standards compliant pieces of _______ that should be replaced as soon as possible.

IE 6 is dieing the death it so richly deserves:

It had a 32% market share at the beginning of the year, it is now down to 23%. On the plus side for web developers like myself, I can safely ignore any calls to support IE 5 (0.1%)

My feedback, and sorry it's not positive...

Text over graphic backgrounds is bad design.

This falls under the principle: If you make it difficult to read, than it's not good for design. It's annoying and more difficult to read text that's superimposed over a city background. Text should be on a solid background for readability. Currently, I'm trying to read text superimposed over building rooftops.




Text over extreme shading changes in the backgrounds is bad design.

The center bar over which the text is superimposed is a darkish blue that blends into a bright-whitish blue on the sides of the bar. This dramatic change in the brightness background makes reading the text over it difficult and annoying. Text should be on a solid background for readability.




Rapidly changing graphic images is bad design.

Just look at most of the avatars here for that.

The sidebar graphics square for a trial account has rapidly changing graphic images. I found it so annoying that after hitting Escape to stop it several times, I just used AdBlock to remove it... which then removed the link for trial account altogether. Just make it a different and random non-changing graphic on each reload of the page.




Flash for "Pick a Side and Join the Fight" doesn't play well with Flashblock add-on in Firefox

Flashblock pauses any Flash from playing but allows the user to play it by clicking on it. However, the Flash in question on the site won't play through Flashblock, it just keeps 'pausing' and doesn't play. I haven't had that problem with other Flash on the web before.




Background banner too wide.

Sister Psyche and Ghost Widow are key 'assets' to the game (and more popular than States and Recluse) and yet, the graphic background is so wide, that they get cut off on most screens. Also, something weird: in Firefox, shrinking the text shrinks the background graphics, but not in IE. <shrug>

I definitely like the new site, it looks FAR better than the old one. When I just popped open the updater and saw the new look I immediately went to check the site (definitely love the teaser on the front page... more please? maybe have occasional contests for fan-made videos to appear there?)... Although I think y'all need to do the same things to the forums... except burn all backups immediately!

If you wanna blame someone, blame Microsoft for making a complete mockery out of both security and standards on the web (that they helped draft!) causing any web developer to have to make multiple versions of their website. You should really try to move to a different browser, virtually any would be far better (security-wise and standards-wise). Don't like IE7/Firefox/Chrome? Then try Opera (it's what I use on Windows, it's fast, it's lean, it supports blocking ads/popups (I haven't seen a pop up in YEARS). If you don't like that, try Mozilla, or Safari, or any of the other dozen or so semi-major browsers out there. Really, if you're still using IE6 your system is likely crawling with malware because of it (it's really sad how many people think all the pop ups and ads crawling all over the web is normal, even when NOT running a browser...)
