For a few years I refused. "Never again, man", I said.

Eventually he bought me a copy of City of Heroes and paid for the first couple of months subscription, and I relented. And my subscription has been active for the last I'm not sure how many years, and I fell in love with this game. I just kind of assumed it'd always be there. I play, my friends play, my kids and their mother play. It's a central connection that everyone I care about shares. And now it's been killed, and I still - days after the announcement - feel like I've been punched.

Matt, if you guys were able to find a financial backer that could pay everyone at Paragon Studios a minimum living wage while you guys wrote a new engine, developed new art assets to go with it, re-tooled the IP to be non-infringing, and would extend the studio a loan for starting servers (I wish I were that person, if I had the money I would be in a heartbeat)... I would be here when you all were finished with my CC in hand ready to step back on-board with you guys. I know that's a ridiculous scenario, but I hate the idea of Paragon Studios breaking apart as you all find new jobs. I'll miss you guys, and this game, and everything we all had with it.
If they put together something in Kickstarter, I'd likely trip all over myself throwing money at it.
  2. Clearly I rot as an alt cuz I fell asleep as soon as I got home from work and missed the start time...sorry about that! But I am glad all the folks showed and you won! Congrats all!
  3. All the MMOs I have played previously were straight fantasy games...so my primary handle has always been the name of the main character of the book I never finished writing. I've carried her through a lot of games, but it didn't work in CoH, so I kept my global the same as my first character name. Her name is basically very descriptive Jade (she was military, so green was her thing) and claw cuz that's what she uses.

Even tho' we could change our global names once, I decided to keep Jade_Claw...even if I did not continue to play her, because she is the first character that introduced me to this awesome game. So, the name has quite a bit of significance in that way. And since I still play the gal after all this time, the decision seems to have been a sound one.
  4. I am a bit out of practice with my villains since I don't get to play often, but if you cannot find a more experienced person and want some help, I can bring either a Fire/Dark Corruptor or my Crab Soldier.

It's been a very long time since I played one of my villains tho' (the poor kids) so since this is a Master run, don't invite unless ya have no one better. :P
  5. Well poo. I've always loved Dark Astoria and all the ghosts that fade when you stand too close. I thought they'd try something a lil more dark or creepy...
  6. I'm not fed up with it.

I'd do it again to help folks out, and now that I finally have it on Jade, I can bring a different AT to fill in, or just bring Jade again for drops. Hehee

I don't have it on my Corruptor or my VEAT yet...or my TA Defender...

Oh and those two deaths in mish 1....insane. They ran in...I blinked, and they were dead. I think he threw a buncha razor blades on the floor....

I had fun on all of the runs, even when we failed on the badge...but it was nice to get it. Great work all!
  7. Bummer that I work until 6PM....I was curious about this. Next time!
  8. If it happens to be on the usual Friday night at 9:30, then I can definately be there. I'll be home from work by then.
  9. Ooo there's a MoITF???

Yep, you guessed it...I am way behind on stuff in the game...cursed job.

Might just have to try that one as well. ;D
  10. I always hated playing healers because of that sorta thing. Why don't injured folks run toward the healers? Imagine it in a real life scenario...you're badly injured...naturally the thing to do is run screaming away from the paramedics...

Hehee...I'm just messing around. I think the primary thing on his mind was get the heck out of range of Hami's Beam of Anti-Penny Badge Obtainment, and didn't know it's impossible in the fishbowl Hami sits in. :P

I'd be happy to try for the badge again if you try another run.
  11. While the MA kinda turned me off of the game a bit, CoH is still my only MMO currently (and I have played many). There are several reasons why...most of which have alreadyt been expressed.

    1. It's not yet another Fantasy MMO.

    2. It's a super hero MMO that doesn't suck *cough*Champions*cough* (yes I tried it...yes the extra char customization features were nice...but...ugh...shallow, sad game overall).

    3. Customization: this has become a real selling point for me, both for PC and console games. I really love all of the look and power features that CoH offers and have yet to find a game that equals it. And the choice of power set combinations? Legendary.

    4. Actually...lemme change this to number 1: The Devs LISTEN to the players. Do they input every player idea into the game? No. And it wouldn't make sense to do so. What truly and utterly impesses me about this game, from day one until now, is how incredibly responsive the devs are to player feedback. NO other game matches it. At all. While they can't realistically implement every player whim, what has always impressed me about CoH is that they truly listen to player feedback and implement as much as they possibly can. Much of what is in CoH now originated from player feedback. NO other game has done that. None. That's why even tho' I can no longer play anywhere near as often as I want to, I still subscribe and support this game and company. They value what I have to say as a player and a consumer, with tangable results. This is huge! If they had a fantasy game that did this very thing, they'd conquer WoW...oh laugh if you will, but I know they would.

5> Casual player friendly. I work...a LOT. I utterly love that I can accomplish EVERYTHING that a player with lots of free time can accomplish. Maybe not anywhere near as fast, but I can still do it...and I love that. A game that doesn't punish me for having a life outside of the game...deserves my hard earned dollars.

    6. Storyline....the devs have put a ton of effort into it and it shows. What I've always loved i9s how everything is worked in as part of the storyline... like how the universities were being built by the folks we had previously arrested, as community service, before that expansion came out. Most MMOs I have played just throw the expansion in and *poof* it's there, sometimes with a back story or maybe a minor event. The CoH crew is the only one who truly builds that stuff into the lore...very impessive.

    7. Community...okay this seems low on my list but it's really not. I play on more than one sever and the communities on all the servers I play on are awesome. And you don't get that in other games...and I think part of it is the CoH Team itself contributing. The staff is very active in the community and I think it has a positive reflection on player behavior overall.

I've played a LOT of MMOs and have worked for one...and what makes me stay with this game overall is how much the company values it's consumer base. I've never ever seen a company that respected and valued it's customers more...and while it suffers from not being mainstream fantasy, I think the sole reason the game has been as successful as it has been is mostly because of the fact that the consumers not only feel, but know their opinion is both respected and valued.
  12. I'm ready! I'm already in the zone....lurking.

    ....waiting.

    :P

Even though I didn't die in the Hami run, I am thinking my zip in, throw a claw while sticking my tongue out at the blob and zip out might not be wise during that phase...so unless you advise otherwise, I'll hang back while the mito clearing is occurring.

...of course if you'd like my drive-by cclaw throwing like last time, I am more than willing to comply.

Hope we pull it off this time, but if we don't it'll still be fun. this is one of my favorite TFs.
  13. Nice, I have that day off. I'd like to bring my Scrapper on the first run...just so I can have completed one of the new ones on her...then I can bring my VEAT on subsequent runs (if they are also on Sundays).

  14. Ooo something I can attend, even with my horrid life-sapping job. :P

If you need a Scrapper, I'd be happy to bring mine. I think it's been like a year since I have been able to do a TF.

    I know...it's sad, but that's life, hehee
  15. Based on my work schedule, AND my sister's wedding....I won't be able to help much. The Sara Moore TF falls into my availability tho'....so if you can't find enough folks...I'd be happy to help out.
  16. To be honest.....with the exceptin of -one- disappointing...kinda-sorta public TF run....TF runs with the Ham can actually be pretty damn amusing/fun.

Despite my sometimes differences with the Hammy, I really don't like that he cannot forum post on his main name. With Ham, you have to know what you are getting into...if you don't like it....then step away for a while...(I did)...but regardless of that, he's done a lot for the players.

I honestly don't like the "I ran with Hami ...OH GOD" posts. Maybe I don't play enough...but, in my opinion,.....while yes...TFs wih him can be a challenge....they are very rarely the "HO Hum" status quo run of the mill TFs you can encounter...and the way I see it....you have to actually give him a bit of a 'Kudos' for that.

I don't expect that I will TF with him anytime soon, due to our last TF scenario...but you will very rarely be bored while running TFs he joins. It's worth it to try one or more to see what happens. It won't always be "textbook", but it should at least, in most cases be interesting....and that's not a bad thing,
  17. Wuldn't a buncha barn litter strewn about discourage folks from entering Siren's tho'?

That stuff's a pain in the hoo hah to wash outta spandex...

    Hmm....

*runs out and buys some shares in Oxy-Clean while it's still cheap*
  18. I'm sorry but you failed.

    Really.

Alcohol doesn't sit around long enough here to be stolen. Next time, do a bit more research before attempting a heist like that.

    ....

Uh, you might not want to know what's in those bottles....
  19. Cool, just got a promotion at work...so I get Sundays off for the next couple weeks while I train for it (then I am back to working Sunday nights again...ugh, heh). Looks like I'll be able to join! Yay! It's been forever!
  20. Ah...the good ol' days, when i didn't have to work every single Sunday night...
  21. From what I have read on the site about I15, it seems this e-mail announcement is for something different. I remember a lotta players asking to be able to switch sides for roleplaying purposes (antihero concepts, etc.) so this expansion has grabbed my interest.

From what they said in the e-mail tho', it looks like this will not be a free expansion. They were referring to it as the first major expansion since CoV...so I expect there will be a purchase price for it as there was for CoV. More customization and story content is worth paying for in my opinion tho'.

Is anybody else having difficulty with it. My computer keeps freezing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same here as well. Could be just cuz my comp is older. If I could get a link to the account page, I'll be happy. I've tried loading the frontpage 11 times so far in an attempt to successfully click the Account page link....with screen freezes each time...

I am a function over fancy kinda gal...so a fancy page is not interesting to me at all. Not that I wish to deny others their shiny bootiful page...I just wanna be able to access what I need, which I cannot do with the monster they have up right now.

Edit: Wow how blind am I?! Didn't even notice the account link -right- on the game loader...*bonks self*

Awwwwww Papa's Guide is gone?? I wish i had thought to copy/ paste it somewhere...I was gonna have my cousin read through it for ideas when she makes her PB.

They cleaned up the boards and removed old posts not too long ago, didn't they? I wonder if his Guide got wiped cuz it was older....too bad too, it was a nice beginner's Guide in my opinion.

I think the link is just to the old version. There is still a version around.

Thanks Plasma! I actually used yours to help decide which way I wanted to go with my Kheldian...but when I read Papa's, it seemed to me that my cousin would understand that one better. Now we both have the guide that bests suits us.
