15 People

Overshadowed by Villain-player 'outrage' about Rockjaw's comments was a very important piece of info that came out of the Omega Sektor event. As previously stated by Jack Emmert and commented on recently by War Witch, 2006 saw the CoH/V team cut by 75% / from a team of about 60 to a team of about 15. It provides some insight into why David 'Zeb' Cook left, why Emmert stepped off the project and why content releases slowed in 2006.

More interesting was the fact that War Witch was the only person who did zone creation during that time. It seems increasingly likely that Castle was the only person working on power systems, BAB was leading probably only one or two people in looking after animations (he'd need someone else to hold the camera while he swung his sword around - bow wow chicka chicka bow wow! ;-), SexyJay probably had costume design all to himself or as part of a small art team (two or three people).

We're aware of Ghost Widow as a programmer and there are probably a few more, but not a huge number (so perhaps 5). Positron would have needed to be a man of many skills (deck of many things?) to help guide things forward and to pick up the slack where it appeared.

(I'm sure I'm forgetting some people, but I think pohsyb came back to CoH/V when it was bought by NCsoft, so he wasn't on that list.)

So: 15 people. Enough to keep the game going but certainly not sizeable to enough to release huge content releases for free every 4 months. The fact that they recovered to release 3 very good issues in 2007 is testament to the work ethic of the team.

Having seen a number of "WY ISN"T THIS BUGZ FIXXED???" threads appear recently, here's your answer: 15 people.

My thanks to those 15, both known and unknown to the forum community. It was appreciated.

I greatly appreciate all the work they have done. It is a credit to their skills to be able to support this game with so few numbers and still be able to release content regularly and for free. I salute you Devs for all your fine work.

Agreed with you wholeheartedly. The devs have managed to keep things afloat through some really rough times. I can't even imagine being able to deal with that sort of pressure.

In short, the Devs are awesome. I know I appreciate 'em and the work they do.

Just goes to show you.. It's not the size of the team on the field, but how they play the game (in this case, that of development) that really produces quality.

Heck. I still like this game better then my other main game. <.<

yeah it struck me too, answered a lot of questions, and mollified a lot of my complaints. one topc i wonder is, jack always said coh was always in the black, good to know, but was that because we have a healthy community(not huge, and certainly nothing to match the 900lb gorilla, but a fairly good subscriber number for an mmo) or because we had the current team in indonesian sweatshop conditions, and with ncsoft reinvesting, and putting a sane number of people on the project, will they still stay in the black? ads and optional packs dont bother me, i see them as both inevitable and good comprimises vurses an across the board price increas, which i would likely pay, but might trim off a lot of users who dont frequent the boards and maybe dont feel as "attached" to the game as some of us.

But the question becomes, does the game remains sustainable at current subscriber numbers, because for having had three issues that were almost uniformly well recieved by the community we still ended up at lower subscription numbers. so it almost seems that quality is secondary to which mmo shepherds the most casuals with hype and free promotion from the mags and websites. so can we still hang with a more reasonable number of devs to pay?

but lest i end on a sour note, i agree with you, the devs made gold out of lead for almost 2 solid years, and the fact that the last 3 issues were made by 15 people only shows the depth of commitment of those incredibly talented people. Imagine if we had people like our devs with that other guy's subscriber numbers and budgets, they would be taking over the world.

QFT! Oh man, that is so absolutely true. I just replied to a post about such a thing too.

THANK YOU you small tiny group of devs, for sticking with it and toughing out the lean times, because we KNOW you're going to do great with flunkys at your feet.

What a trial by fire, huh?

So, if 15 people can still kick out issues and they're hiring more now, we should get kick <bleep> issues, right?

Back to work!

Heck yes. You hit the nail on the head UnSub. I had a feeling that the post-CoV crew was light, but I had no idea exactly how light until the Omega Sektor interview. That's freaking crazy to know that all the stuff released after CoV came from just 15 people.

Now that they're hiring more, I hope that the new content and ad dollars will mean that we can keep up the pace and attract more players to the game.

I've actually been the sole animator and FX artist since Issue 8. So glad to say that's no longer the case XD

i think you guys miss alittle something..

yeah 15 people is a small amount ..but guess what

after all we went through..the community (for the most part) stayed strong.only losing people after e.d. really.

the community also deserves a pat on the back..after all with only 15 people..it would have been quite easy to just give up on the game as a community just as easy as it could have been as a dev

looks like neither side gave up.now gimmie my elec tank castle!!
