Ah crap, forgot Joe (Hero 1). I think he might have been a bonafied addition to the team rather than being part of the Cryptic exchange program. He was brought in around Issue 9 or 10. Mynx was the producer on CoH a long time ago, left Cryptic to pursue other things, and then came back around Issue 9 to replace Serdar (who sometimes logged in as Lord Recluse). Manticore (Sean Fish) had left Cryptic to go work on another project for NCSoft back around Issue 8 I believe.

There was also Michael Henry and Joe Lyford, the two sound guys working for Cryptic. While they were never officially on the project they did handle off of our sound needs. Now our sounds are being handled through NCSoft in Austin

I would hereby like to apologize on behalf of all the uninformed flames directed at the Dev team by players without a clue, who I'm sure would apologize themselves if they hadn't just facepalmed themselves into unconsciousness. Or maybe it was the blindside tackle by Sho.

You guys have done a great job, and you are awesome.

Fixed for you.

Should also point out that while the official CoH/CoV team was 100% devoted to working on CoH/CoV, Cryptic did occasionally send help down from people who had moved off of the project. Jack and Micheal Lewis were involved quite a lot in Issue 9, particularly the design of the auction houses/market. Shannon (Poz) also pitched in during Issue 9. I'm pretty sure there were other instances where this happened as well.

What didn't happen was anyone on the core team for CoH doing work on Cryptic's other projects. So it wasn't really a two way street.

Nice list.

Now if someone would refresh my memory, please. There was a large developer interview that (I think) used to be on the Cryptic website. In it, there was a picture of one of the dev staff sleeping on the job, except that he wasn't sleeping--he was in full-on recline mode while working at his station. Who was that guy?

Thanks for the complete list. Interesting to see who's come and gone over the years of the game.

Also, you guys rock for putting up with all the nonsense on the forums. Seriously.

Has to be Richard. The poor guy has fallen asleep during team meetings.

This is why BAB has such a cult following. He's always in here, day and odd hours at night. with his open communication style.

I agree with the theme of appreciation and understanding in this thread. I look to the road ahead with eager excitement.

Edit: Never thought I'd say this, but this BAB we're talking about here.

I figure at this point I might as well chime in here.

I don't play any other games. None. Well, maybe the occasional GH or Rockband at the Bestbuy Kiosk or something, but that's it.

Why?

Co* rules my world.

And for the core who stuck with it through thin and are now in the thick of I12...

A sincere thank you for taking away so many precious minutes of my life. I enjoy spending them using Co* a great deal.

Always something new to discover, as I've not the time in it as some around here, but a small story for ya about how awesome it is to be playin' Co*:

Last night, my SG mates and I were teaming. Me the Mind/Psi dom, the Ice/fire (or is it the other way around?) Corr, and the robot MM. (Villains, of course, pressin' to 50 for VEATs now...)

We had a CoT mission in a cave and came across a mob of several LTs and a couple of Minions, all 3 and 4 levels above me. Holding two hostages, they're about 10 or so in a little pit.

I said, "hold my beer, watch this!" (as it is Pinnacle...) and proceeded to fire off in succession:

two big yellows
two big reds
Dominate
Mass Domination
Mass Hypnosis
The Fear Power (I forget what it's called, but they cower before me and hurt)
Psionic scream? (The wall of power that makes them hurt)
And then the Ice rains down upon them, courtesy of the Corr

In about 5 seconds it was *over*... The MM didn't even get to do anything with them.

I was laughing so hard after that, and all the while goin' through and mowin' down more, as Dominate means I'm a squishy scrapper, and I won't stop.

I was, in my own little world, impressive in that moment... and *that's* what keeps me comin' back.

Then again, the night before, I had an 8 person wipe happen, and it was just too funny then too. "Ow!" said we all. As someone said, the first 8 times, it's funny, then it gets *really* old for about 40 times... then it becomes hilarious ever after. I <3 team wipes, it's just so fun now.

o.0

Anyway, Devs, truly, thanks. You made my 33 months! (or soon to be 33 months anyway...)

What about Geko? Obviously he's no longer with you guys, but when did he leave? Did he get shifted over to the other Cryptic project(s)?

Also, very impressive that such a small team is running such a large project. Really sheds light on the situation -- and it also explains why NCSoft still supports the game to the degree that they do. I'm guessing the payoff for CoH is better now then a year ago.

I always liked Geko. He was surly for sure =)
I can only guess BAB (or others) has some funny or painful stories of Geko -- although it seemed he didn't mesh very well with the others. In fact, Geko always seemed like the black sheep of the red names. You see a lot of red names posting playfully back and forth, but I can't remember anyone ever doing this with Geko... And they always made fun of his spelling =}

You mentioned this back in October or November on the Test server, but either didn't know more, or didn't feel you could elaborate on it when people asked more questions about it.

I've been kicking myself for not asking this (and a few other questions) earlier: can you tell us now why you think it was that they got involved so much during Issue 9? I thought it was because the consignment house in CoX was going to be their test bed for one in MUO/CO, but I think you said it wasn't that.

Poor Geko. We broke his brain and for anyone who saw Castles outburst a few weeks ago it looks like we are coming along nicely with doing the same to him.

Wow.. I am amazed.

And keep in mind, while 15 is a small number, the number of those who actually program is even less. Lighthouse, Ex Libris, Ghost Falcon, Mynx, Brian C, and Ross don't do code. (At least I don't think they do and please don't think I am downplaying their contributions to this wonderful game) This cuts down the number of people working on new content/bug fixes/balancing from 15 to 9.

Totally amazed.. plus.. They still find time to talk to us on the boards. Admittedly, noticing their recent posting times, I think BAB and Castle might be a little insane, but I am very thankful that they do share with us what they can.

I have really enjoyed the last few issues and can't wait to see what the future holds.

Thank you Team CoX!
