BAB was leading probably only one or two people in looking after animations (he'd need someone else to hold the camera while he swung his sword around - bow wow chicka chicka bow wow! ;-), SexyJay probably had costume design all to himself or as part of a small art team (two or three people).

[/ QUOTE ]

I've actually been the sole animator and FX artist since Issue 8. So glad to say that's no longer the case XD

[/ QUOTE ]
So who filmed you with the taped sticks? :P

[/ QUOTE ]

Tripod.

[/ QUOTE ]i did no such thing.

I thought about starting a thread like this. Putting out three high quality content releases a year is something that not many dev teams can do, much less small ones. For only having 15 people, they've done a helluva lot.

I thought Pohsyb was there, his posts just weren't showing up in the Dev Digest.

They've done a good job with limited resources. I always wonder however, how much Cryptic's decision to make a competing product with a former legal adversary may have led to that resource cut on NCSofts part. We'll never know the details I guess, and I'm not sure anything good would come of knowing them.

Responding directly to the OP:

Point well taken. Now lets get some more people on staff and get this ship up to full speed.

Be well, people of CoH.

As previously stated by Jack Emmert and commented on recently by War Witch, 2006 saw the CoH/V team cut by 75% / from a team of about 60 to a team of about 15. It provides some insight into why David 'Zeb' Cook left, why Emmert stepped off the project and why content releases slowed in 2006.

[/ QUOTE ]

MAN.... I WISH that one thread was still here where I totally called Jack out on this by saying he had cut everything down to a "Skeleton Crew" and he responded specifically to it just to run me down as usual by vehemently disagreeing, but without providing any details to counter it (AKA: Lying). It's kinda hard NOT to hold a grudge when a trusted "professional" claims one thing is happening, but it turns out to be the complete opposite of what's ACTUALLY happening.

Wasn't Arctic Sun part of the 15 that the post-CoV launch team was whittled to?

Yeah, but then I remember it every time someone in-game's askin;
"So, ya gonna play C.O. instead when it comes out?"

....[censored] NO! Infact I'd rather play Hellgate London and jam a fork in my thigh!

Ian and Ravenstorm were moved to MUO. The last bit of work Ian did for CoH was the Justice armor pieces for the GvE edition. Ravenstorm's last major contribution were Safeguard missions, but he came back on every once in a while to help out. He was responsible for setting up Hamidon(s) and GM spawn placements in the Hive and Abyss, as well as pathing for the Rikti Invasion ships.

Added to that list would be Ken, our art lead. Nick, an environment artist replaced with Don shortly after Issue 9. Nick moved to one of Cryptic's other projects while Don is now with us at NCNC.

On the programming side, there's Aaron, the lead programmer and Garth, replaced at some point with Graham. Garth was shunted over to Cryptic's core team when Graham came on board, but eventually ended up joining us as well. Pohsyb had also been moved off of CoH/CoV but we managed to sneak him out and take him with us.

I believe that's it. The rest of the team were production. Brian Clayton (now the head cheese), Mynx (producer), Ghost Falcon (producer) Lighthouse, Ex Libris, Blue Steel (design support), Richard (AP/Build Engineer), and Ross (marketing)

That 15? I lost count...

That's less people than it takes to run a burger joint.

Puts things into perspective.

QFT! Oh man, that is so absolutely true. I just replied to a post about such a thing too.

THANK YOU you small tiny group of devs, for sticking with it and toughing out the lean times, because we KNOW you're going to do great with flunkys at your feet.

What a trial by fire, huh?

[/ QUOTE ]

Amazing. I have some idea of the work involved and the fact that 15 people or so not only kept the game afloat, but did such amazing things over the last year+, is a testament to their skill and dedication. I really hope people take a little bit of time off from complaining and think about what's been accomplished.

It's interesting to hear this number confirmed, btw. Based on information that had recently come to light, I had estimated the dev-team size at 18 people. Looks like I was pretty close.

Didn't Constellation leave between i10 and i11?

Last Beta Castle referred to a "Joe the Sound Guy". Is there such a person or was this a sarcastic "John Doe"?

As to there being 15: Well when it's the right 15....

I had skepticism and concerns about Cryptic's attention to CoX after MUO, but seeing *every* member of the Dev team move over to NCSoft so they could keep working on the game more than cured all of that. These people love this game.

One of my favorite things is giving credit where it's due. While I think my three annual subscriptions says enough about my adoration for the game and hence the work these people do, when the chance comes about I can't help but say,

Thanks guy, for all the hard work and heart you put into CoX. It's so good I can barely be bothered to play anything else. I love and amazed at the quality of the additions you all have managed to get to us.

Also you can never leave now, the manacles are in the mail please chain yourselves to the desk.

Love
Az

Holy... I knew the CoH team was small, but 15 people?! I never imagined it'd be that tiny. Good lord.

Hats off to you guys, you had me fooled. You guys have been packing so much into recent issues I thought there were more of you behind the scenes than that.
