Should we start calling them the "Survivng 15", like the Surviving 8 from the Rikit War? :P

Overshadowed by Villain-player 'outrage' about Rockjaw's comments was a very important piece of info that came out of the Omega Sektor event. As previously stated by Jack Emmert and commented on recently by War Witch, 2006 saw the CoH/V team cut by 75% / from a team of about 60 to a team of about 15. It provides some insight into why David 'Zeb' Cook left, why Emmert stepped off the project and why content releases slowed in 2006.

More interesting was the fact that War Witch was the only person who did zone creation during that time. It seems increasingly likely that Castle was the only person working on power systems, BAB was leading probably only one or two people in looking after animations (he'd need someone else to hold the camera while he swung his sword around - bow wow chicka chicka bow wow! ;-), SexyJay probably had costume design all to himself or as part of a small art team (two or three people).

We're aware of Ghost Widow as a programmer and there are probably a few more, but not a huge number (so perhaps 5). Positron would have needed to be a man of many skills (deck of many things?) to help guide things forward and to pick up the slack where it appeared.

(I'm sure I'm forgetting some people, but I think pohsyb came back to CoH/V when it was bought by NCsoft, so he wasn't on that list.)

So: 15 people. Enough to keep the game going but certainly not sizeable to enough to release huge content releases for free every 4 months. The fact that they recovered to release 3 very good issues in 2007 is testament to the work ethic of the team.

Having seen a number of "WY ISN"T THIS BUGZ FIXXED???" threads appear recently, here's your answer: 15 people.

My thanks to those 15, both known and unknown to the forum community. It was appreciated.

So issue 9, 10 and 11 done on the backs of 15 people?

Man, I have been a fan of this game, basically since I booted it up. And I have been a fan of the devs, pretty much since I first came on the forums and saw how often they posted and interacted with the 'fans'.

I gotta say, now I am even more impressed. Wonder what could happen if they got back up to 60 people.. I bet they would come up with some damn good content!

-Side note. If we gave 30 people to the animation department for a short term loan, could those 30 people crank through re-doing SFX fast enough to make power customization? Just a thought, pie in the sky sort of thing..

-Side -Side note. Then again, if we got the dev count back up to 60, that just means there would be that many more devs to hate villains...

(I'm totally kidding, I don't buy that devs hate villains for a second, just thought this might be funny to some of the tin foil hat types..)

-Back to main note.

Umm, you guys rock, and I can't wait to see what comes out now that you got more hands!

Ohh and War Witch, major props to you on RWZ reworking and Ouroborus zone, I mean if you really(*) did those single handedly, then wow, hats off to you big time!

(*) I am not doubting WWs ability to do those zones by herself, I simply qualified that because I don't have all the facts and am just going off of what I heard from others, and have done no fact checking myself on what has been posted here.

Well, I'm really impressed they managed to come out with something like Invasion as an issue, just in terms of things I've enjoyed. It also goes a long way to explain some things that have been sitting as is for what seems like a long time.

I don't know where else to go with than being glad you guys are actually getting to staff up now.

I'd vote for Surviving 15.

And yeah, quite simply amazing amount of output for such a small staff!

Until they joined NCNC, I would have gone with this one. Since then, it looks like they have been able to come off of life support.

Thanks for your dedication to this game.

Do you think you could get them to *not* say something while looking over the shoulders of their coworkers?

Manti's not in the NC building, is he though? I was under the impression he was still in Austin?

As you can see by my incredibly enormous post count, I'm a man who doesn't feel the need to say much. But I will say this:
For all of you who have constantly complained and moaned about how "My favorite AT isn't set up exactly the way I want it!", you need to step back and realize that you can't even run a Starbucks with 15 people. Think about your job and how well it'd go if you had a staff of 15, including management. The fact that the game didn't sink or tread water shows that these guys (and ladies) cared enough about us to try and give us what we wanted while still trying to figure out how to get us to the next stage in the storyline. So, to the "my pvp sux cuz i cant run 8 toggles and one-shot kill nubs" and "this sux wow is so much cooler cuz of loot and invetions sux and im so much cooler than you suxxors", may I give out a hearty and heartfelt, shut it. If you honestly think that you and 14 other people you know can crank out a game that engages, entertains, and still manages to look better than CoX, then by all means, go ahead. I'll file you next to Archlord, Vanguard, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, and the other 15-20 MMOs that have come and gone.
The devs have not only made and updated a truly amazing game, but they took time to answer our questions, ponder our what-ifs, tempted us with pie, and still managed to make me want to come back time and again. So, thanks, folks. Thanks for answering the PMs while you were rendering. Thanks for posting on the forums while you were poring over tiny numbers on giant spreadsheets. Just thanks.
Okay, I'm done. I have to try and solo a villain to 50 around a 4 year old, which isn't easy...

That's correct.

Edit: and until NC bought Co* Manti had nothing to do with the game. He' only recently come back because everyone works for the same company (NC Soft) now.

Also, on the NCSoft Community Rep side, we've lost a few familar names: CuppaJo, Alexa, Aura, Arctic_Sun, Awry (who is married to Manticore and played Sister Psyche at the Live Valentine Event!), Cricket, etc....

New Hires at NorCal

1. Jimmy the IT Guy

BAB,

Confirmation on these please:

Ex Libris looked over my list of Devs and so I thought that Ravenstorm, Mike Apolis, SuperMartin (Martin Simpson), The Dark Watcher, and Vince D'Amelio, came over to NorCal with you, no? (Of course, The Dark Watcher and Ghost Widow have never revealed their RL identities, so, there could be some overlap in this list ).

And so, there is now both a Garth and a Graham at NorCal? (Neither appear in the CoV credits, so they both are pretty new-ish).

I was thinking about this and I deliver pizzas at night, and on a friday or Saturday night, we will have 15 or more people in the store working, and we are a medium volume store, heavy volume can get over 20, and we still can't consistantly get you all pizzas in under 30 minutes. NCNC gets us a very good game, updated regularly. Next time you are in the OC let me know, the pizza is on me. And yes my store carries anchovies

you have to give the 15 their cred's, I think the last few issues have been particularly strong, not bad for only 15 people, kinda makes you wonder what they'll be able to do, now that they got more people, and keep in mind, while they have gotten in some new blood for this issue, it was/is the 15 who have done a good chunk of the grunt work here
