NCsoft NorCal Studios is pleased to announce the pricing and details for the coming Optional Additional Character Slot feature. As we previously announced, we heard the request for a system to allow more heroes on a single server and this is our answer, with scraps for villains. City of Heroes is a unique game that offers many playstyle options; options that are growing in a large way due to Villains Got Crap, Son! and the addition of the Slightly More Intelligent Arachnos Punching Bags in the next free expansion, Issue 12: Midnight Hero. To accommodate playing more characters on Freedom, we will be including the following features in Issue 12:
<ul type="square">[*] All current subscribers (with less than 20 villain characters) will receive 2 free character slots, each of which can be used on the specific server of their choice, as long as it is Freedom. This is to help you make new characters to take advantage of the uber-l33t hero powersets of Issue 12, even if you already have maxed out your “home” server’s character slots.
[*] 1 free character slot will be granted retroactively on a yearly basis through the current No Stalker system. Every 12 months that a subscription does not have a Stalker character will unlock an additional free character slot that the user can apply to the server of their choice. Thus, existing heroes will be eligible for up to 4 additional character slots at the launch of Issue 12. This will continue into the future for Veteran Rewards given out every 12 months, so you get another slot for 5 years, another one for 6 years, etc.
[*] Additional Optional Character Slots will be available on a purchasable basis. These are one-time fees, not an addition to your monthly subscription rate, unless you have villains on your account. The additional slots can be had at the following price points:

    • 1 Optional Hero Character Slot for a one-time fee of $5.99
    • 1 Optional Villain Character Slot for a monthly fee of $9.99
    • 1 Optional Stalker Character Slot for a one-time fee of your firstborn.
[*] Heroes can have up to 36 slots per server, with an update to the character selection screen that lets you re-organize your blue list by Drag and Drop, as well as easily flip between up to three pages of characters available on that server. All heroic customers benefit from these great new User Interface features included with the revisions for Optional Character Slots.[/list]The above features are planned to be made available at the launch of Issue 12: Midnight Hour, which is currently in closed beta testing. Be sure to check out this feature, along with the rest of Issue 12 when we enter the open beta testing period that should be starting in several more weeks.

This is great to hear. I love the execution, I love the different ways of receiving, and I love that I get to have four new slots for my VEAT's when this launches. Someone just took the win up to eleven.

Agreed with you wholeheartedly. The devs have managed to keep things afloat through some really rough times. I can't even imagine being able to deal with that sort of pressure.

In short, the Devs are awesome. I know I appreciate 'em and the work they do.

I know you can't just add new zones without some lore...

How about, there are still four uncharted islands on the map of the Rogue Isles?

That said, I wish Paragon City and the Rogue Isles could extend into outer areas, much like Croatoa is...at the border. Arachnos and Longbow are global operations...and yet Destined Ones and Heroes are not because we'd lose amnesty/the city needs us...

I think villains need enough zones that we don't have Grandville-ification for the others in the name of new content. With how things are turning out though, the rest of villain content will be in the name of cooperation, barring villain epic archetypes, which better be good in PvP or I'll blackmail Castle with those pictures of him and Luminara...
  6. Since I won't be around to participate in this Double XP Weekend, I guess I can reiterate from the last time, when I got my Peacebringer, Warshade, and Controller into the Twenties.
  7. I think I've skimmed enough of it to agree with you (like 40% tl;dr) on most of the points/suggestions. While I really think it should have gone in Suggestions, it covers quite a bit of PvP and engagement and all that jazz, so I'll let it slide this time.

    This time.

I hope to jeebus someone doesn't quote you just to give a one sentence reply or some trash...

    Good work!

CoV just got caught up in 'em by circumstance.

The Black Market, Monster Island, the Abyss, a Castaway reference, and the Tesseract Strike Force were all "circumstance"?
  9. 1) Market Merge
    2) Reduce the lag of all villain zones as much as possible (I was stunned that Lighthouse labeled it a "too much work for too little return" issue, being that it affects everyone that plays City of Villains.)
    3) Mercy Island Sewers
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Yea, there's a lot of ways they could have worked Ambassador Kuhr'Rekt's presence into the story for I10. He could have been there as cover, could have been there to pass info on, could have been turned off for the duration, etc. etc... But the point is, they didn't bother to do anything with him. He's still sitting there in Grandville sticking out like a sore thumb and passing out missions to villains who come asking while his kind and bombing the city.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm almost positive it was in an outer-site interview, but Positron said it would take a couple issues for all the storyline inconsistencies resulting from Issue 10 to be worked out. (A contact heroside getting leery of a second invasion, for example)

Can't see that I see your point. Your trying to compare Mango's to Steak. Just doesn't work.

Group One: Issues Eight to Eleven didn't give villains any content!
Group Two: Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't content.
Group One: How about a couple hazard zones get introduced to villains?
Group Two: Hazard zones aren't content!

I, personally, am against hazard zones because it turns the "Villains only get rehashed hero garbage" way of thinking into that much more of a reality.

I'd much rather have alternative tabs to the "City-wide" and "Zone-wide" maps. The players shouldn't have to look on the net to see that Thorn Isle has spawns of eight or more, etc. There are places where team-friendly street sweeping takes place, but simply making entire zones for it puts everything in a simple and easy format.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I would just like to point out that everyone [censored] about the "wasted content" of CoV hazard zones has only proven the point of the Villains players who feel that I8-11 have been "wasted content" for CoV.

It was evident to me, but it felt like someone disagreeing with *you* was making the error, when purposefully nerfing long-standing powers solely for PvP parity is seen as an error to quite a few people.

As it should have. Giving Blasters Unstoppable is unforgivable.

And yet some folks want to compound one error by duplicating it villanside ?

What's the bigger error, villains and heroes not being equal, or heroes being overpowered?

One getting fixed would be a tad more displeasing to the playerbase than the other...

I thought Posi or Castle already stated at some point that they felt they were fine for now?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Any comment like that I've never seen. The closest thing to a PPP response, in recent times, was Castle being asked about certain issues for villains in PvP, with PPP's, Fury, and other things cited. The response was something along the lines of "We are aware of PvP FotM builds."

I think there could be more communication between the players and certain encompassing issues for both sides of the game, but I won't press it. They're damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

It could be said the other way, that Heroes got nothing, Villains got Oroboros, andthey tacked it on to Heroes because they already had the code.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The arcs were designed for heroes first. The zone was designed for heroes first. That basically leaves transportation, which forced hero characters to traverse to Peregrine Island (Time Travel masters my patooshka) to a portal while villain characters used the Pool of Time (which was exactly what it sounds like).

This was then fixed. The pool and portal ways were nixed, and everyone given crystals.

  22. [ QUOTE ]
Congratulations on completely failing to understand the in-game explanation of how Ouroboros works.

As Tesseract plainly tells you at the start of her story arc, "you will travel back to 1963". That's more than 40 years before anything that happens during the course of CoV. The reason you are exemplared down to level 34 during the story arc is not because you have traveled back to when you were level 34, but because "Temporal Scaling" has reduced your power. This is, made explicit in The Pilgrim's story arc, which culminates in you traveling to THE FUTURE, where you are exemplared to LEVEL 25.

Next time try actually reading the story before you come onto the boards to complain about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's all well and good Chyron, but what if I'm not malefactored? I'm still level 25. I'm still a grunt. I am not malefactored. And yet, I am putting Recluse in power.

I'm not even sure being level 25 for the arc was the main point. Even travelling back in time, a villain is listening to Recluse's orders like gospel. How many of you can say that you would travel back in time 30 years and meet your mother-in-law (or whatever present imposing figure) and still do what she says as if it's the present time?

Chyron, it's all well and good that you hate any complain made by a villain-oriented poster, but maybe you can think your responses through a little first?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
That says to me, starting in i13 and onward, we may see more parity of content in new issues ... maybe even a slight lean towards CoV (say, 55/45) for a while, so that both sides eventually come to a true 50/50 split between issues.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I could see a slight lean, but true parity is a wet dream through and through. Here's to Issue 13!

CoH has a bigger population, who whine more, and whine louder than the CoV community. They hold forum population majority. CoV was made specifically to generate more econ to pump into CoH. The devs can save both time and funds simply by creating co-content that short-changes CoV but is specifically, for some reason, beneficial and useful to players of CoH. Any and all one-sided villain content is eventually transferred to CoH and given a buff. Content that was originally hero-side, will, with some reluctance, will be given to CoV. However, said content will be thouroughly re-worked, and it will be stated said content will be 'more powerful' than its hero counterpart, and it will turn out to be craptastic in comparison. Villain issues will be backburnered in favor of hero issues. There will never be any more villain-side only content, but expect more hero-side only content in the near future.

The Devs do not give a [censored] about CoV in the short run. They only care about it as long as it brings in money so they can fuel blue-side, which in turn, means they have to make a few mediocure attempts at improving the red-side content. They do so slowly, reluctantly, and poorly.

That turned into a rant. All of the above is OPINION, only SOME of it is necessarily fact.
