Why Moment of Glory sucks!

Don't mock me for stating a fact. He built his toon that way. I have screen shots of him killing people and criting on people that were in mog. If you want it then take it, but don't plan on using it in PvP or arena. Sorry for making a suggestion.

I'm not a min/maxer, but I am not a pure concept player. I pick powers and slot them to be effective and cool. MoG fails on both accounts in my book except for the animation and the "taunt noob empath" factor. I expected MoG to be like a personal Adrenalin Boost or uber Fortitude (Ubertude?). This expectation was based partially on experience fighting PPs and on concept considerations.

I created my Scrapper about a year ago, but only really got into him a few months ago. I enjoy playing him, but when I hit 38, I took assault. It was a said thing considering how much I looked forward to tier 9 powers in the past...

I understand and believe in balance. I am not looking for an "I win" button. I just feel like MoG is the "I lose" button.

Of course you realize that if regen had a better teir 9 power it would only increase the disparity between itself and the rest of the field. I will say that it sucks to work all that way and not have a markee power to play with.

I find MoG useful in two situations.

The big use is sappers. If I could get another power with the same endurance recover, I'd say goodbye to MoG happily. I get petrifying gaze and stealth. If for some reason petrifying gaze isn't enough to deal with sappers, I hit MoG

The other use I put it to is, am I going about to go down--all my recovery powers are in a recharge, no green inspirations, and I'm fighing someone that's doing big damage and isn't going down fast enough, I hit MoG. I get a win then about half the time, the other half I am defeated anyway. Since I'm not often in that situation, it's not worth the increased fragility.

for one i just hit dp,ih,and a break free or a few lucks, since it only happens about one in 20 times it is pretty easy to manage.

for two i just hit a bunch of lucks.

and yes i realy do find it that easy to keep that many lucks on my regen.

Apology dissed. I was commenting on the "my b/f can beat you up" aspect of your post, not the game-related content. You raise a valid point. I apologize.

I'm in accord with Doctor_Dude, MoG could have been AB or something close to it; improves what we do already, then crashes, UNLIKE the Emp's AB. Would make a lot of sense, seeing as how some of our powers are comparable to an Emp's (Recon-Heal Other, IH-RegenAura; theirs is better and available more often for the same slotting AND they get to give teammates IH, QR~RecoveryAura... theirs is stronger and affects themselves and others, whereas we get ours as a passive).

Since a good portion of our powers are the Emp-like, why not let the 38 be something in the ballpark of their 32?

I too wish that MoG were improved in some way. For 1 thing it is not very regen like. I also miss the old perma MoG. The new MoG is extremely situational but it does actually live up to it's name. Back in the day of the uber MoG with regeners running around with it perma'd it wasn't exactly fullfilling it's namesake of "Moment of Glory". The current version does in fact fill that purpose as it is is really a last ditch I'm out of inspiration and other choices and about to die power. At least we get to use it before death as oppose to Fire Tankers and Dark Regeners. It does give us that last ditch "Moment of Glory."

So the real debate is what should the purpose of the 9th tier power in a scrappers secondary fill and how to bring equity between the scrapper secondaries without making them duplicates.

On a side note. It's interesting that regen Scrappers are identified by their secondary and not their primary, i.e. I'm a regen scrapper. It doesn't seem to matter what our primary is.

Posted

That is funny that we are identified by the secondary.... Well it is where the spice is. The primaries tend to be pretty interchangeable.

As an /invuln scrapper, I can't weigh in on the MoG sucks argument, however, i guess my 2 inf is if you dont like the power that much, just don't take it. Or respec out of it. They do give you the choice for a reason. My /invuln scrapper got to 50 just fine without Unstoppable, which is the invuln 9th tier. So there's no rule saying you have to take the power.

Please note I am not saying there's nothing wrong with the power, because I've never played the regen powerset so I have no idea personally. I'm just offering up another option.

Hmm... i imagine they'll get to that as soon as they shore up frozen aura... bwa.

What I say?

Replace Instant Healing with something along the lines of...

Instant Recover

which would act as an endurance heal

then...

put IH at 38.

It would make Regen more even with the other secondaries as well.

I guess you could do something like that. But how many regens actually have problems with endurance? Personally I have to go full out for quite some time before I have to stop for a few seconds or pop a blue.

My thinking as to a fix for Moment of Glory is to make the power similar to Build Up. Trash all the survivability aspect of it and just have it give +ACC and +DMG.

Here's why:

1. Tanker's Fire Armor has Fiery Embrace, so there is at least that one example off the top of my head of a defensive set giving a dmg boost.

2. The feel of the scrapper is that it's best defense is to kill things quick. MoG giving the scrapper greater killing ability seems to fit that.

3. If it is a short-duration click like Build Up, it really does suit the name MOMENT of Glory. How long the click lasts, how it compares to Build Up in Dmg/Acc, how long the recharge? Nothing excessive, I'd say. Otherwise it could trivialize boss fights, making it so no one wants to take on a boss w/o a MoG scrapper.

4. As has been said previously, /Regen has IH and DP, and is magnificantly survivable to begin with. It doesn't need any more assistance in that regard.

5. I think it fits, thematically. Regen scrappers have some sort of bodies (flesh, metal, whatever) that can repair damage at an extraordinary rate. So it's not much of a leap to give that body the ability to push itself a bit harder for a moment.

6. I really don't see that this would be unbalancing, but I could be wrong on this account because I only have high level experience with /regen scrappers. But this results in little more than popping some yellow/red in a fight. That hardly seems unbalancing, but it does seem extremely useful (as a Tier 9 should be), especially given how often Build Up/Aim appear in Blaster builds.

That's my thinking on the matter, or at least it was when I posted this...

maybe it's high time then that I get to work on my grand rebalancing of secondary effects.

hmmm, or maybe that idea about rebalancing the hero ATs so that blasters are always outdamaging scrappers...

MoG kicks [censored] if you -KNOW- how to use it. I have a 40 MA/regen scrapper, and MoG has -never- failed me. Noticing that it has failed a -50- tells me that the -50- doesnt know how to use it.

End of discussion.

I don't know that that's the case at all. There have been a few, like yourself, that openly admit on these forums they get some use out of MoG, but that's doesn't necessarily mean that the ones who have it and die because of it are bad players, and neither does it mean that the power isn't flawed in it's execution.

My level 47 MA/Regen scrapper doesn't have, and will never take MoG as long as it performs the way it does. In fact, I could never in good faith recommend that anyone take MoG. Using lucks and a dull pain/IH combo to get through sticky spots is a far more viable option, and has even been proved to be more advantageous in actual gameplay conditions.

wow, someone made the "you don't know how to use it" argument. Gee, what a novel approach.

You've only had it for two levels. Noticing how small your relative samples size is shows me that you really don't have enough experience with the power to tell anybody else how to use it.
