  1. Actually, with katana I am looking at closer to 70% lethal and soft-capped melee That's why i was considering forgoing weave and tough in the first place.
  2. well, when you consider the number of targets that can be affected, and the 'ticks' of damage, damage shields are actually incredibly efficient.

for example, death shroud 3 slotted for damage does from 25-250 damage every 2 seconds, which is 12.5-125 damage per second, depending on how many mobs you catch. on only 3 slots.

for comparison, a blaster's fireball does 157 damage, 3 slotted with damage, every 8 seconds, 3 slotted with recharge. That fireball (with activation time factored in) does around 157-2521 damage every 9 seconds, or 17-280 dps but that's on 6 slots.

So in general, damage shields are HIGHLY efficient, and are often the best attack a lot of melees can get.

What a wonderfull attitude that is.

"I'm so glad when other peoples experiences in this game suck so that I can feel good."

You could at least try to show a better attitude than those whose behavior you say you dislike, because right now you are no better than they are.

after all the crap I have taken about enjoying farming occasionally, I feel very little remorse about the feasability of something that wasn't even around at launch.

    The mood on MA

    I agree with hedgehog.

it wasn't the comm officer nerf. Anyone that went on that farm knew darned good and well it was only temporary.

It wasn't even some undefined 'vision' about what the MA was for that bugged those of us that don't mind farming.

It was positron coming in and pointing a gun at everyone with only vague warnings about what would and would not get you shot.

THAT is where 99% of the vitriol in regards to the recent nerfs are coming out. Nobody likes being threatened, not even if you are reasonably certain that the threat is not directed at you personally.
  5. I love wailers! I mean, they have incredibly weak attacks, give just as much exp as other mobs, and spawn in huge, easily-dispatched hordes... Even the bosses are a breeze to take out... and they give twice as much exp as any other boss! (Except maybe freakshows... except that while freak tankers MAY wake up, wailer kings seem to ALWAYS do so.)
  6. Hmmm...

I don't see it as much lately, but a while back, hanging out in RWZ or Cimmerora was invitation to have to listen to hordes of trash-talk by stalkers trying to 'convince' people to play zone pvp.

You couldn't simply turn combined dialogue off, since a good ship raid or ITF might contain an 'opposite side' element, so you were either forced to maintain strictly hero or villain teams, or listen to the constant barrage of ill-spelled insults from the TRUE munchkins.

    think 'the barrens'

  9. actually, on MMO's there is a sharp dichotomy between 'minimaxers' and true munchkins.

Because of the limitations of MMO's, there is no true 'roleplaying' invested, despite what the perverts on Virtue try to tell you. POwergamers, or minimaxers, exist specifically to create the 'most' character.... in a way that is not deleterious to other players. They perhaps rule-monger and definitely minimax, but they are not INTENTIONALLY trying to ruin other's fun or engage in 'involuntary' pvp
    [ QUOTE ]

In gaming, a Munchkin is a player who plays what is intended to be a non-competitive game (usually a role-playing game) in an aggressively competitive manner.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only person your typical powergamer or minimaxer is competing against is themselves. HOW fast can I get a character to level 50? How tough of an enemy can I face by myself? How big of a group of enemies can I herd? How quickly can I do (X) content?

Munchkins, however, are the ones that compete against OTHERS, ruining their experience intentionally in an attempt to score 'points'. They are the ones that try to increase their 'kills' by cheating, or by harassing people.

    and Munchkins overrun WoW.

    In the end-
    Powergamer=minimaxer
    Munchkin=Harasser

It is possible to be both, but in general the munchkin is not trying to prove anything to themselves, They are simply trying to prove things to OTHER people to bolster their horribly low self-confidence.
  10. Not exactly, I like a man who's head only comes up to my waist. But I mean a different kind of munchkin... The kind that made me ditch WoW. The kind that thinks going into the opposite side's zone and trash-talking everyone is 'roleplaying' and that one-shotting someone is 'meaningful PVP'. The kind that are willing to do ANYTHING to win, including cheating, running macro programs, and DDOS attacks to ensure that they are the 'best'

The kind of people who were mentioned as 'winners' in a particular thread that claimed that only people who are willing to do ANYTHING to win are truly 'winners', everyone else is destined to be a loser.

Thanks it's nice to see someone else's perspective. I appreciate the build.

I personally am not a fan of purple IOs. I'll buy one or two. I bought the "cheap" sets for my permadom but that's it.

And Shield Breaker looks nice. I had never heard of it before.

    [/ QUOTE ]

well, part of the reason I like DA and, for that matter /ea, is that they are both 'tool bag' sets.

There are very few things in the sets that are absolutely 'neccessary' to succeed, most everything is useful, and the way you mix and match powers within a single set can greatly alter way the set plays, without invalidating it.

I think that was, originally, how a lot of sets were supposed to play, back pre-issue 1, but some really odd decisions made that model... not work, I guess.

And has Positron banned you yet? Has he deleted any of your characters? De-leveled any? How about your friends? Any of them get hit yet? No? How about any person you've interacted with in the game? Not a single one? Oh, wow. Then maybe just maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe you're all over reacting.

NAH! Couldn't be that at all.

Anyone seriously posting using the words "fear" or "scared" to describe their feelings about the MA is pretty dumb. Unless you leveled from 1 to 50 in an hour 6 times over a day the entire time it was possible and then sold your account, I don't think you need to worry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good idea, mocking people who are honestly worried that their arcs and/or characters are going to be destroyed does SO much to reassure people and improve their confidence. You should be a psychologist.

  17. [ QUOTE ]
I dream of a nerfless game, where when one set outperforms the others, instead of slightly reducing the power of that set, you simply buff EVERY OTHER SET. Then when you introduce a new set (Willpower) that turns out to be stronger, you simply buff FIFTEEN OTHER SETS. And you keep doing this until all sets are capable of soloing Hamidon, and you have to adjust the power of every single enemy in the entire game just so that they can keep up, and we end up with enemies that deal damage in the thousands with regular hits just so all the numbers balance out.

That would be way better than having to suffer "nerfs" !!!

Just guessing Pretora will be a "paradise" that became such via rather immoral choices, Tyrant rules the world after all. The kind of world that is free of genetic defects due to all people that carry these deffects are either killed or forced to never have children.

[/ QUOTE ] Is this really in the storyline? If so then maybe I need to pay attention to arcs alot more. Does anyone know who gives an arc that mentions this?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The current Pretora story arc is extremely loose (like most content from those days.) We visit certain zones, cities and the such, but we never really see anything outside of isolated outdoors. I never seen an arc that mentions what I said, I was guessing that based on the trailer where Tyrant's empire seems like a paradise. Being who he is, I would not be shocked of him going through any means necessary to achieve that perfection.

After all, Tyrant and Statesman are the same man, with different decisions made through life. Both are likely driven by the same motives: a better tomorrow, but made very different moral choices.

All i ponder is: where is Pretorian Recluse?

    [/ QUOTE ]

he's the leader of the resistance, driven by a desire for freedom from the control of Tyrant, and saying 'No More' to the hypocracy of an artificial paradise built on the backs of those who should be leaders instead of slaves.

    fits his personality also

  20. the funny thing is, 100 years ago classes in logical thinking WERE a standard part of almost every curriculum.

boy, we have come so far in such a short time (/sarcasm)
  21. bah, when all else fails, MORE DAMAGE!

Honestly, with a brute, i don't see the need for either CoF OR opgloom. Cof is another end sink (that you don't need) that only affects minions (which are going to be dead after the first FSC anyway) and OG is a HP sink (that you also do not need) that also only affects minions (which will be dead in just a heartbeat as well) why bother taking and slotting them, except as a holster for sets?

My fire/da is kind of a 'purist' build. skip the 'controllery' powers (Including CoD), slot in extra resist and defense via leadership (and also gain the +per that is normally DA's birthright), lean heavily on the damage shield and FSC for minion problems and soft-cap melee defense with IO's.

Anything that costs too much end or is of limited usefulness gets trimmed right out of the mix.
  22. yah, that's the problem, I understand exactly how to slot and pick powers on tankers, heck, I have done it 6 times... it's scrappers that i am wary of.
