Issue 7 Press Release on MMORPG.com

For those who have speculated that Newspaper missions are coming to City of Heroes, they arent
yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
Noooooooooooo!!!!!
I love newspaper missions.
Guess I'll be running them with my new Elec Brute.
[ QUOTE ]
As several have noted, I7 features content mostly for City of Villains (levels 41 to 50, in fact). This is exactly what we did for CoH. City of Heroes will receive a cool graphics upgrade, new base items (Empowerment stations!) and access to Recluses Victory. Its true that CoV received more attention, but thats mainly because we needed to fill out the levels. I had the option of releasing I7 or waiting until we could fill out the City of Heroes content. Obviously, I chose the former. New content should get out there when its ready. We'll be focusing equally as much as possible on each product moving into the future...

Thank you for posting this to let the communitity know that not much is coming for the Heroes in Issue 7.
This is a service-oriented business, and it's all
about keeping the player happy over the long term.
So you have to listen and pay attention. If a large
portion of your playerbase is screaming about
some change, you be wise to listen. - Raph Koster
What's the word on how much more system resources these extra graphic features are going to take? I have what I thought was a fairly beefy system (ATI X700 card) and COH/COV (especially) chugs hard at times. I have most of the fancy graphics settings turned off and the game is on average just about the playable mark. Most COH missions are good, but I tend to avoid missions with the arachnos bases just because the framerate drops to 5-7.
Sorry if that is offtopic, but when I hear of the new graphics, the playability factor is the first thing that comes to mind.
FireWild - lv 50 Fire/Fire Blaster (Justice)
FyreWyld - lv 40 Energy/Energy Brute (Justice)
... and way too many others

...
okay. what ARE empowerment stations?
[/ QUOTE ]
Guesstimate: Stations where players may create temp powers for themselves, using salvage.
Always remember, we were Heroes.

Thanks States... as usual you can't make all the people happy all the time. I just hope Issue 8 isn't 3+ monts away. I could see alot of disgruntled people waiting for COH high end content lvl 41-50, skill system, Epic AT's coming our way. Given the mass of new stuff added to COV, COH players want shiny new toys of their own. For me its all win-win, keep up the good work.

Should I take this to mean that the CoH content (not QoL fixes or graphics/costume improvements, actual story content) currently under development now will not see the light of day until I8? Or does "when its ready" literally mean that the hero-side content originally considered for I7 would be released immediately upon completion, as part of a patch release between I7 and I8?
If the latter, I'll feel significantly less disappointed by I7. It's not that I need more CoH content NOW NOW NOW (want, yes; need, no). It's the thought of the looooooong wait for I8 that's getting me down at the moment.

I have CoV, I play CoV -- once in a while. As cool as my corruptor and dominator can be, they just haven't captured my interest as my heroes did/do.
So no new costumes, power customizations, skills, content, newspaper missions -- at least you're upfront about CoH being ignored.
We're passionate about this because we love the game. Not everyone is happy being a villain. And personally, I'm unhappy that Paragon is the CoX ghetto.

bah, who cares about the heroes? They've had long enough attention. They have about 3 times as many zones as we do.

well, they appear to be adding the new PDP (Pocket D) mid issue (granted that's both games), so there is hope that other changes would be made the same way...

A more boring and far more likely guess would be an enhancement store. If I'm wrong, I'll be happily surprised.
This Empowerment stations regardless what it is will be underwhelming to 99% of the heroes. Why, because with the current costs of base items, 99% of the SG's won't be able to afford and probably not able to maintain it until sometime in mid 2008.
Some are legends because of their posts, others just post becoming legends in their own mind.

So lets get this straight... your adding new features to bases... the same bases where an overwhelming majorityof players have no real access to due to your rediculous prestige income levels and your adding graphics lag to the game for low end systems?
This is your offering for heroes? Well at least I can take some solice that Mayhem missions arn't going to be all that cool to begin with considering your idea of 'destructable environment' will be having some items you can walk up to and punch and they blow up.. woopie.. whats the difference between that and any other mission where you have to blast the glowies?
On the positive side.. I have to admit I'm intrigued by Electric Melee.

I for one welcome our new villain overlords!
But seriously, didn't most of us know I7 would be villain-centric, especially since the current lvl cap is only 40?
I can't blame States for waiting to have something better or different for the heroes vice villians, ie: police scanners vice newspapers for fast action. As long as they don't keep raising the bar in one place so that they have to raise it higher in another, etc., etc.
I have only two words about I7: Pocket D
But I suppose some will always find something to complain about.
Person 1: This glass is half full
Person 2: This glasss is half empty!!!!1!!1111!!!!
Person 3: Hey! This isn't what I ordered!
Let's try to remember that the CoV side is significantly behind the CoH side in getting updates, having just started and all.
I don't play CoV right now, and sure I'd like more for CoH, but I think that's the greedy side talking. I think there's enough content to survive a few more months.
Lacking post 50 content? I'm not all that concerned, being an altaholic and all. . .. . .
For those who are, I sympathize, but I'd bet you'll see some loving in I8 since the Devs are in high level content mode at the moment.
I'd imagine there are some high level missions in RV as well. Just have to dodge the PVPers. Shouldn't be too hard for the first week or so.

Sorry Bub,
You're not holding my attention or my dollars long enough for me to experience it.
while(!sleep()){sheep++}
But Statesman, I'm confused.
We were told long ago not to worry about CoH issues being delayed because of work on CoV, due ot the fact that they had seperate Dev teams working on them.
And yet, now, somehow the CoH team is failing to provide content for the update, and your reason is that you were busy fleshing out CoV and that CoV is priory numero uno.
But what about those who only have CoH?
What happened to the CoH Dev team being seperate from the CoV Dev team?
The CoH Dev team has had just as long, if not longer, than the CoV team to work on the update, and yet the COH only players are getting absolutely squat for new content.
I understand CoV needs to be finished, and needs work.
But so too does CoH.
2 games -> 2 Dev teams.
That's what we were told.

Thanks States. Think you could se your way to giving us a hint as to what these Empowerment stations are? My current theory is that they're trainers you can have in you base.

This is true -- but, that said, Pocket D's actual story content (missions from DJ Zero, and whatever else is planned) hasn't been released yet. So I can't quite bring myself to call it new story content, for the moment.
Honestly, I expected and accepted that I7 would be massively tilted towards CoV. Even as a non-PvPer and someone who much prefers hero-side play, I was OK with that. But I was hoping for something more like an 80/20 split than the 95/5 that this has turned out to be.
I'm not asking for much... and I'm not being unrealistically impatient. As a software developer myself, I understand perfectly the occasional need to cut features to get a release out on time. But, could we hero-types at least get a small "point release" once the CoH additions originally planned for inclusion in I7 are ready, so we're not staring down the barrel of a full 3+ month (plus time to I7 release) Issue development cycle?
Heck, just tell me that whatever Newspaper-ish system Statesman has in mind for CoH will see release in advance of the next issue, and it'll be enough to placate me for a few months. And maybe one new (borrowed or otherwise) powerset, just so Miss Kitty doesn't revert to a feral state and claw some poor red-name to death.

What about the Electric Melee/Armor why couldn't that be added to Tanks & Scrappers at least?

Why not just give the poor CoH melee sets the new Electric stuff? All the squishies over on CoH have gotten one or more new sets since launch.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I'm thinking that after CoV was launched, the teams were combined. Or, some hero only developers, some villain only developers and a few combined developers. Or, one story team for each game but one programming team for both.
I don't know, just guessing.
I do agree that content for people who do not own, nor intend to own CoV is warrented. But, I don't blame them for being stingy with the hints. There may very well be some hero only content that just isn't quite finished enough yet.
::Puts He Who Watches into her lap and pets him.::
I know.. I know..
Sadly there is most likely only ONE big dev team now. They probably hired new CoV exclusive personnel, but there isn't any rule that someone only gets a paycheck for working on CoH. The "Don't worry.. there are two dev teams!" was most likely just a little white lie to quell the fear that CoV would pull the dev time from CoH.

Yep ... push that content out, Jack. Keep it up and fewer villains & heroes will even WANT to eat that newer content than you think.
