  1. I was a day or so late to sign-up, but hope I can get on the list. I have been on and off the last few years with real life taking front and center many times. Made for a very heavy heart to login in today for a chance to escape and visit an old friend of a game to see it will be gone in a few days. Hit a bit harder than I thought as it is only a game, but one that I have always enjoyed and always found it easy to slip back into and just pick-up with a group and have fun. If anyone finds another that reminds them of this game please let me know...would love for a City of Heroes II and a long life with that one. I tended to be a bit quiet...which isn't my real life persona lol, but always snuck in a group here and there and probably have played with one or another of you be it a Rikti invasion, Task force, or just in the sewers. Hope to run into some or all of you online as times goes by. This was a once in a lifetime game in my opinion as it took some of those before it in a whole new direction and set the template for those that came after it, but could not catch the essence of it completely.

Good Bye and Good Luck to everyone...you will be missed.
James(Nova Forces, Offset and a host of others of the SG Protectors)

Feel free to drop me a line if you hear of a game or if a new City of Heroes comes along.

  2. Yes the timing always stinks for myself, they seem to come around the holidays when I vacation back home with friends and family and a bit after memorial day when I also am able to take vacation or other annual events planned.

Assuming it is more of a marketing tool than a actual reward as it seems to fall around the same time throughout the year and not very random.

Yes that is a tinge of bitterness in the post, but is only a game so will get over it and just would be tempted to create a bigger stable of alts

Everyone get some XP for me.
  3. Good Luck CuppaJo, Tabula Rasa is lucky to get you and sorry we are losing you.

You have the rare quality of maintaining professionalism while still keeping things fun and lighthearted, combined with a good work ethic. Rare qualities indeed in a person in any work environment.

Which makes them fairly weak and almost pointless. I would rather have a choice that builds a lot on my strengths then a little on my weaknesses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually it seems that it's you that missed the point rather than the powers. The APPs and the PPPs are specifically designed to fill holes in each AT. Having played many a Defender and now Corruptors and Dominators I personally am glad to have the chance to have a decent melee attack and especially shields of some sort even if they aren't as fantabuloso as a scrapper, tank, brute or stalker's.

I'd think that after playing 40 levels without a ranged attack that most of the melee group would be happy just to have them available. But then, none of the characters (ATs) I've played have ever been a 1334 build (no, not even my scrapper -- he's Dark/Dark so 1334ness will never be his to covet) ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wish that was the case it was to fill in holes. MMs already have control and defense with Arrow defense(?) being the exception. So we get more range, control and defense? We lack melee and endurance powers to name a couple. Only Mu gives endurance support, where is a conserve energy type power?

The more I look at the PPs the less I like them from a MM viewpoint and probably take other non-PP powers on the way to 50. If these were meant to fill in holes, I know they can get the CoV binder cheap at Best Buy to read over the powers again.
  5. Good Luck in your future endeavors, hope you enjoy the next challenge as well.

    A fond farewell

Good Luck with your future project(s). Even in the big world of MMOs it is smaller than you think, sure you will run into many of us again.
  7. Think the keywords are leadership and communication.
  8. CoX reality starts when I login and ends when I logoff anytime me after logoff doesn’t exist to me. Is the same concept as a Superhero being in 2 places at one time or never aging, time is a different concept in these realities.

The problem with the if you play more you should have more concept to me is that it is not reality. Would I like to play more, sure I would. Work, kids, coaching, family and possibly school again prevent this option. Others do not have these restrictions.

Yet I bet that I produce just as much prestige per hour in this reality when I am on as the next guy. Also I bet I use the base just as much as most when I am online and bet the farm I use the base exactly the same amount as anyone on any server when I am not logged on and neither are they.

Hmmmm so actually a group of 25 that plays for 4 hours a day pays less for their base then a group of 25 that averages 2 hours a day.

Yes their are millions of real world examples such as you pay rent for a house or car and you don't use it all the time. The problem with this is I am always in this reality, I am not always in the CoX reality.

Our SG has been around forever, big base, dedicated people, high level players that play CoH. Our VG has some of the same people, been around for a short time, small base, dedicated people, low level players that play CoV. The biggest difference if you throw out level is most still spend time in CoH. Not that they don't like CoV just with the limited time they are in one more than the other. Produce just as much per hour when they are on the CoV side as the CoH.

To me there is no absolutes. They say they want casual players yet easy to present an argument that they pay more to be able to do it.

A simple solution off the top of my head that could work is a scale instead of straight tax rent. It is figured by averages not totals. You can treat the large SG with 75 members that average 25 hours a week per person the same as a 15 SG group that averages 15 hours a week.(by the way who had the better SG base Defenders or FF? Did the size of the base change when the Avengers roster changed from 4 members in the group to 7+?)

Then it becomes quality not quantity how much are they producing relative to each other when they are on, not who can produce more because they are on more. Still need to have a few parameters so someone can't come on for 15 minutes and get a high prestige average, but if you had a X hour a week average and only factor in those that do it could work. Take the prestige average multiply it by X and you have what can be spent to build and maintain the base. The group decides they prefer INF instead the average goes down and so does what they can spend.

Doubt it is a perfect solution, but think it is a fairer solution for the time spent in the CoX reality.
  9. Coalition Mission Computer

Type: Unlocked. X hours of teaming with coalition members

Description: Aux to the main SG/VG computer, members of the Coalition receive a message that they are needed for a mission. Team must be formed that has at least one member from 2 of the Coalition SG/VG members.

Limitations: Have X hours to start mission or it no longer appears on the computer. Missions could used as a factor in other Coalition

Could also use x number/hours of missions for other Coalition items suggested such as teleporter to be unlocked.
  10. Hats off to you _Castle_. I do not always agree with solutions and answers by the devs, but regardless of that, I do have to give props where they are due with your attention and work on these issues
  11. This Empowerment stations regardless what it is will be underwhelming to 99% of the heroes. Why, because with the current costs of base items, 99% of the SG's won't be able to afford and probably not able to maintain it until sometime in mid 2008.
  12. Will turn into the have and have nots with SGs AND the players in them. A bigger SG will let players split time between gaining infamy/influence and prestige as they grow. This allows players in the larger groups the chance to gain more infamy/influence therefore more SOs. Factor in such thing as base raids and loss of equipment and the ability to recover the prestige to replace and the gap widens.

Is a broke and poorly implemented system. Penalizes a small group of friends that wants to play together towards a come one come all group(or a very aggressive recruiting group). Avengers have had huge membership and rosters, FF has had 4 with only a few coming in as temp replacements, yet who probably would have more "prestige".
  13. Will be a nice change. The -2s are definitely nothing more than early aggro bait sometimes. Although defense will still be the same at least they will be able to contribute a bit more before they turn to dust.
  14. Would like to see it as a permanent feature, with a few rules. Once a single or group latches on others won't and they are no more than +2s.

The way the mobs follow now is boring. Unless I am travelling through a high concentration of much higher mobs I don't take a huge effort to avoid them. They won't chase me far and I easily can take a few shots. A 1 in 20 chance or so that the mob will take off after me would be fun and add some variety. Feel like I am running through a zone defense.
  15. I really hate some of Statesman's replies. If I gave this little of information that something was wrong I would get a reply of how many in the typical mob? What level were the mobs? How many LTs? Bosses? Were you street hunting(my guess he was) or doing missions. Maybe a slotting/power question.

States with all due respect you need to give out what you ask for if you want us to give your responses credit in such scenarios. I know it is extra work, but would make it easier to swallow. Big difference if you were fighting 4-5 blues and whites or 6-7 yellows and reds.

When a long time player says I feel such and such is off they get hammered with give more info, when Statesman does it we are suppose to take it for face value.
  16. Actually, if you want to know the state of the game post the projected numbers/sales/subscriptions etc. against the actual numbers. This is more in line with how you see if they are going in the direction they want to be going.

Even Statesman saying numbers are up means nothing. If projections were for a growth of 10% from point A to B and actual growth during that period is 6% then you have to say they aren't meeting expectations. The numbers also normally would take in to account games such as DDO coming out etc., as well as being adjusted for such things as a big WOW advertising push, so even though unlikely a large dip or negative membership could be factored in to the equation.

In either case saying numbers are up or down have no basis for what the actual health is of CoH from past issues and would not know the health from CoH I6/CoV until later down the road. I would also guess, but could be wrong that since CoH and Cov are seen as separate games they have two sets of numbers or at the least a formula with the 14.95 for both taken into account.
  17. Cool, cut off our hands, then give us gloves to make up for it.
  18. BUZZZZ...wrong answer Posi, thank you for playing. This is the answer to "how are we going to try and save face", but not to the questions being asked. Please quit calling it Enhancement Diversification, diversification implies choices and we know this is not the case.
  19. They finally took away the linking to Best Buy and Compusa as neither went to a COV link nor could you find the product with a search. The Best Buy by close to me neither had it out nor knew anything about it, the Compusa couldn't tell me when it would be in either. Think I will wait while the dust settles.
  20. The "tell me how to play" argument is not valid and always pops up when someone doesn't like a change. It is cause and effect. Let people PL, makes team make-up different and effects peoples play, ways around it and ways to avoid it but now you are telling ME how to play, take it away and telling YOU how to play. Welcome to the real world, not a slam just the way it is as you can see from ONE of MY experiences below.

Someone will not like the changes, the INV changes to scrappers changed the whole ballgame for me. Didn't like it, but still love and playmy scrapper.

Content I understand, I personally would love to see more random events in mission such as booby traps, massive ambuses(could trip an alarm and all mobs come for you) as well as more content in general. This would cause just as many people to yell about debt, forced teaming and many more, but like the risk/reward/challenge potential.

I still see more against PL then for personally. Unless someone comes up with a better solution it appears they will keep trying to put it in check and will have to be a solid solution not a I like it not hurting anyone arguement imo.
  21. Have not PL'd nor plan too. Have plenty of friends I SK to and they Exemp down don't feel like I am losing anything or not contributing. Also, most in our SG/friends have alts of various levels and don't know how many times even in pick-up groups it is have an alt at this level or that.

Personally if someone wants to PL I do not care, what I do care about are the constant calls to PL, the PLers who are new to the game in pick-up groups at higher levels, etc.

Don't think it will be that hard to nerf PLer's and have little effect on SK's PLers are space takers not contributers to a team and the current changes are not bothering me.

Are their going to be exceptions? There always is, but that is the nature of the beast, just don't see a mass exodus of players if it is harder to PL. On the boards and in game in my experience PLers are not going to be missed.

A middle ground solution to the issue to me would be to do something like give a slot or two that a char can be created up to the highest level char currently developed. Lets the veterans skip content if wanted, but still make newer players have to learn the game(hopefully).
  22. Half the problems here on the boards(and boards in general) are on assumptions.

    2 Examples

    [ QUOTE ]
    Something I've always wondered...

Why do people feel the need that they *have* to be "Optimal" to have fun? Why does everything have to boil down to the numbers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Assumption is that the reason that people want the numbers is for "Optimal" builds. I have looked up numbers for theme builds.

For example a blaster that is super high damage little defense(pretty much what they are now) + max range, but can teleport quickly out of danger. Had no idea if I was/could max slotting damage and range, what return on Interrupt I was getting, etc. Was not an optimal build, did it for fun.

Same with an early empathy defender, did not know what he needed to heal, but without knowing base etc. did not know if what I was slotting was overkill(it was, found some numbers and respeced later) Yes many are looking for Optimal, but many are just looking because they know it is screwed up and don't want to mess it up again or to max a theme out even though it isn't optimal but not use extra slots that don't do anything.

    The other example was this...

    [ QUOTE ]
As I promised, here are the results from our latest Scrapper tests. Hope that we don't have the errors we did previously. We adjusted the builds and mobs faced based upon your input (thanks!). This includes the changes made to Regeneration and Dark Armor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Assumption was the emphasis was on "the" why not put the emphasis on "our latest" and now you have defeated his whole argument.

Hey both could be absolutely right on what people are trying to do or meant, but also may not be.

Why I never get annoyed with bold and emotes. Those caps still tend to when an exclamation point will do the trick.

Also my third example: Thinking it is personal, don't know the people I quoted that well on the board and just examples I noticed that I could look from a different angle. Didn't mean it that way and hope not taken that way.
  23. Like the idea of a member by account instead of Hero, but with this added. Have it so which alts can join is a choice that is mutual between both parites. I have an alt in a different supergroup and want him only there as well as there are themed groups that won't want all alts in it. Has to be more than all or nothing.

Like the group stats in the kiosk idea. Maybe also can be used for recruiting. Each group that is looking for members can post a short blurb on what the group is about, etc. When group is full or all members are inactive for set amount the request goes away so there aren't millions of groups.

Group bonuses either for all in same group or better bonuses for members based on longevity(like an archer and a shield slinger that team-up and work well together).

Supergroup only missions, badges and contact(s). Have the missions and the contacts recyclable, So 6 months down the road when you have new or alt members you can start the contact or missions again. Doesn't have to be the same exact but same flavor/level.

More connection between alt groups and main with promotion ability.

Set-up extra billboards(or other means) and give supergroups some exposure through deed or randomly in a public way.
  24. Wow, most of the lingo I know from being online, but Noob I took as interchangable with Newbie from the posts as I was trying to "learn" more in the online gaming culture Now I find by calling myself a Noob I have been being a boob
