Possible Port Oakes Bug?

Posting this in the Stalker Forum since I have only tested it with my Stalker. I was hunting in Oil Spill by myself and accidentally agro'ed a Wolf Spider Huntsman when I AStriked another mob. So I ran. And ran. And ran.

He proceeded to follow me over 3 miles before I just took him to an Arachno Bot for deletion. I wasn't fighting for any period of this. Just running until he completely faded from my screen and I lost the ability to target him. Then I'd go another 50-100 yards and stop. He would then reappear and the chase would continue. He also was never able to get close enough to shoot me again.

So I decided to test this.

I was able to pull a Penumbra the same way. A Hellion Buckshot also never gave up. So then I took a Penumbra out to the sunken oil liner and took off from there. I reached Oil Spill and he was already out of my screen, so I kept going. All the way to the Northeast corner of Port Oakes. No sign of him. Tried the same thing with a Hellion. Same result. Tried the same thing with a Huntsman. Same result. Then I went back to hunting and leveled. So I went to the arbiter and leveled up.

I got 50 feet from the arbiter when all three (Penumbra, Hellion, and Hunstman) jumped me and beat me down harcore.

Now, I can't verify that it was the SAME ones as the ones I lost, but I know it wasn't a mission ambush because I don't have any missions. Haven't done a single one. Have strictly solo hunted.

Went to Cap Au Diable and tried the same tests. Nothing ever followed me after they dropped off my target ability and graphically out of my range. Tested it on Huntsmen, Luddites, and Goldbrickers. So...

Is there an agro bug with Port Oakes?

During the beta, I had 3 of those Wolf-Spider incidents in Port Oakes. It was always the solo Wolfs that seem to run and run until they get close to someone who agros them. Makes for some thrilling battles if your already engaged with a mob. But I had it happen to me with a Brute twice and a MM once. So I don't think it's Stalker thing....

Had same thing happen to me, but it was two of them. I got very wary when attacking single mobs after that, cause the three of them almost killed me.

This is a really tough issue for me to /bug, so I'm hoping _Castle_ gets a chance to look at this. It's not impossible to avoid, but it really seems to be a problem with that zone/area...

Is it a Port Oakes problem, or an Assassin Strike problem? Have you tested this by initiating combat with an attack other than AS?

Posted

Yes, I initiated the combat with Slash and got the same issue. Actually, for my later tests, I did it with Slash to make sure I didn't kill my enemy. And it has ONLY happened in Port Oakes so far...

In beta, I was wandering around the docks looking at the Coralax - while hidden - when a Penumbra Adjutant shot me out of Hide and the very purple Coralax took me out.

So I go to the hospital, kvetch briefly about this in global chat, exit the hospital, and there's a Penumbra Adjutant shooting me as soon as I'm out the door.

same thing happend today:

I AS a council Lt. Half a block away this fortuna (purple) decides she didnt like that and chases me all over the map. Tried to see if it was a time bug or area bug, but far as I know I left her on the other side of the map and she showed up a few minutes later. Then letting her chase me merrly around for 5 mins, she never gave up till I ran back and into a mission.

In that mission, when I would AS someone, mobs would come out from the rooms down the hall and around the corner to attack me. It was like there was a boom mic attached to my sword..making it go "CLANG..HERE I AM!"

Didnt happen all the time, so it wasnt like a all the time bug, very unpredictible.

So then after leaving the mission, I imediatly pick up a paper mission "council in port oaks, so I head to the trainer, stop at the quatermaster. Friend in Mercy wants me to help, so I wander to the boat. Hop over to mercy island

Half way across MI's map, Out of the blue, as im hidden, two council attack me. Could of been a ambush, but dont ya think they would of attacked 5 min's ago while in the zone where the mission is?

Anyways, thats the jist of my odd aggro bug day in port oakes.

I had this problem in Beta... Was playing a brute at the time and got my first Broker in PO... As I leave Drea I get trashed by a level 9 Damned... Go to the hospital and guess who shows up? And I know he was after me because there was other folks around me and when he killed me he ran off... So I leave the hospital (again) and go to the mission... As I'm waiting for my teammates to show up, here comes a level 9 Damned (again...)
I escape into the missions door and when we finished it he didn't bother me any more... but yeah... I'd say PO has a aggro problem...

I'm glad that I'm not just going insane here. I know they claim to have fixed the AStrike bug from Beta, where it was causing a larger agro bubble than normal, but I'm also suspicious of this when it comes to Lts and Bosses, since I can AStrike someone with a minion nearby that's a seperate spawn and he won't move. Do the same thing with a Huntsman nearby and that guy sees me MUCH more often. Not my biggest concern, but the Port Oakes agro bug is rather anti-streethunting atm...

I'm not sure that it's isolated to PO. I watched a mob chase a team mate (corrupter) from the very end of a mission map back to the front door. I popped it a couple of times with my brute which is supposed to have taunt effects on all his powers but the mob was not disuaded. Very odd. I bugged it just in case, but, yeah, aggro is pretty hairy on the Rogue Isles

Are you positive these events were not Ambush related? Some reports sound like that could be the case, others I am not so certain about.

Can confirm. We had a Fortunata who was just loitering around when we saw her follow us all the way across Oakes. She was a normal outdoor spawn, as far as I could see -- certainly not part of an ambush aimed at US. Maybe someone else's ambush? But aren't those mobs supposed to give up easier on someone who isn't actually their target?

I had something like this happen to me, too, also in Port Oakes. The attackers were not related to any mission, story arc, or contact I had or had recently had. In fact, they had just been standing around like normal random foes before they started going after me. Once they started, they wouldn't stop, no matter how far away from them I got.

Edit: Note that my character was a Mastermind, not a Stalker.

Yeah. Had the same thing happen to me in Beta. I forget what kind of villain exactly, but they followed me till the end of the globe until I actually said screw it and had to kill them for trying to be my new best friend or something.

Yup, I'm sure. I've seen it in action inside of missions several times and for fun I tried to gank a Cobra I came across. He chased me for ages, literally across half of Mercy Island before someone else killed him. In CoH, if I aggroed a mob at the end of a mission, they would never chase me all the way back to the entrance which is what I first witnessed.

I'm actually wondering if it's just the Oil Spill Neighborhood. Last night I was at one end of the pier and I had to run to the CaD Ferry. I took off and aggroed some Coralax. Those suckers followed me almost all the way to the ferry. Stopping just short of drone perception.

I thought it was odd because when I sprint through mobs, yeah, I aggro them, but most of the time the chase is very short, if at all, in any other section of Port Oakes.

I've had this happen on at least 2 occasions--once with a spawn that aggroed on me through Hide, the other time on my unstealthed mastermind. There may have been others that I took out without realizing they were OCD spawns. I noticed it with these because they were +3 to me--each consisted of one purple lieutenant and one red minion. In each case, the mobs were from a faction unrelated to any mission I was doing at the time. The first occasion was a pair of Council that came after me while I was hunting Hellions in the Oil Spill area for the hunt mission in Bocor's arc, and the other was a pair of Hellions that came after me while I was standing by Drea with no missions at all (I had just reported back after a heist). I didn't see either spawn before they aggroed, but they were not unusual spawns for the areas I was in.

The first time it happened (on my mastermind) the chasers managed to kill me. They caught up to me again shortly after I left the hospital and killed me again. After that, I waited behind a drone at the hospital until they ran up and got zapped. When my stalker got jumped, I led them all the way from Drea to the Arena and got a drone to take them out.

Note that this means that not only is the problem not AS-specific, it isn't even Stalker-specific. There is something wrong with the aggro (and the perception) on these spawns.

This happened to me in beta with my Mastermind in Port Oakes. I apparently aggroed a purple Wolf Spider (who was just standing around) onto me on my way to the Aribiter. I outran the Spider, and figured that's that.

I attack some other guys about a mile away from the Wolf Spider, die, go to the hospital, talk to the Arbiter, and then head over to the Quartermaster (this has been about 2 minutes).

While I'm standing at the Quartermaster, a purple Wolf Spider runs up and starts shooting me! I run all over the area trying to shake him off, but no dice. I summon my boys to give me time to get away, but they die really quick and he finally nails me. He starts running off, and everyone else dogpiles him and kills him.

Anyway, I thought it was just a really weird, rare bug, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.

Heh, glad to see I'm not the only lucky one!

I got into a fray with a mook/family boss, his lt and a wandering-past Wolf Spider in OilSpill. I ran way up into the hills and still had these sob's chasing me.

Finally zoned into a mission door near the arena area to lose them.
All I could think at the time was..'Man..these guys are really really pissed at me!'.

I had the same experience last night, playing a brute, starting in Oil Spill. An orange-con Hellion minion followed me far longer than I've ever had a mob follow me before, and I didn't have any missions that should have spawned a Hellion ambush.

So I SMASHed him and went on my way.

These events are neither Ambush related nor limited to Stalkers. I've had it happen frequently on my Corruptors and Dominator; walk past a mob, mob shoots at me, mob proceeds to follow me through the entire zone and not give up.

What's worse: I've had it happen multiple times while crossing Port Oakes. A Hellion will take a liking to me, then a Capo, then a Wolf Spider... pretty soon, I've got a small army of completely different mobs following me for no good reason.

Thank you very much for responding _Castle_!

As for it being related to ambushes, I really think I would be the LEAST likely person to receive an ambush because I've yet to run a mission. Not on a team, not of my own. None. I have strictly stree-hunted by myself through Mercy, Port Oakes, and now in Cap Au Diable. This problem has ONLY occurred in the Oil Spill area of Port Oakes so far.

Thanks for the attention so far, and I'd be happy to show it to you in-game sometime if you would like to see it. Hope we can find a way to get it addressed!
