I have the 7.10s loaded, nothing is jumping out at me as broken, but I don't have the time now to do any testing.

I do plan to revisit everything later and I'm especially interested in the changes to adaptive antialiasing.

I've been off playing LoTR Online the past few months and haven't updated my drivers since like 7.5 or 7.6 I think. Hell, I may even have 7.4! Have you seen the ghosting when you look out over water again? And what's with this missing TV and Scorpion problems?! :-b

It's been a while since I posted a top issues list, and for that I am very sorry.

We've been working on a few of the bigger bugs that have been hindering your overall gameplays and I just wanted to chime in and let you know that we are looking into the following with a high priority:

    * Framerate drop when exiting a mission
    * Missing (invisible) objects on mission maps.
    * Client crash due to capes.

The last thing on the list (the cape crash) is causing us some major headaches and long nights, so it might not get fixed fully in the next build for Training Room, but hopefully it will be improved. For the meantime, if you find yourself on a team that is crashing a lot, you may want to have everyone switch to non-caped costumes for the duration. This includes trenchcoats unfortunately. Not the best solution I know, but we are working hard to get this completely fixed. Watch the boards and patch notes for when it's safe to put your capes back on.

In addition, we've made a bunch of fixes to power FXs for various powers to improve framerates. I don't have a list in front of me, but if I get one today, I will post it into this thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thank you! This is the message I've been waiting for saying "Ok, we have a big problem with crashing, we're working on it, sorry, I know it sux, here's what you can do in the meantime that may help!" You've just taken away a bit of my anger towards the Cryptic crew about not talking much about this problem. You've made a post in Dev digest that addresses it. Partial redemption there for u. Thanks!

I have 2 machines. It happens once in a while on one, never on the other.

Dismissing people's real problems like this makes them angrier.

Read Lighthouse's post before dismissing reality based on your perception.

Be glad you haven't had it but don't dismiss those who do get it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am not dismissing those who do get it, what I am asking for is a little more understanding and the realization that it may not be just the game. There are bugs in every game which is why there are patches for every game, no game is perfect. However I think that the extremely vocal minority of people who have these frequent problems should take a moment and look at what they are running it on rather than immedietly running to the forum and screaming about how crappy the game is and how they are going to leave. It gets real tiresome real quick.
I dont dismiss reality based on my perception, I don't doubt that there are a few disconnects and crashes that are due to the game and how it performs on certain peoples computers, however I dont think that a lot of the crashes that we hear about here are really just the game being buggy because the devs put out a crap product. All I am saying is that its not as bad as the vocal minority states it is, it doesn't crash "all of the time" and it is far from "unplayable" there are some issues yet but it is well within the Developers and the Studios best interests to keep the game running smoothly for as many people as they can and for the most part they are doing a darn fine job of it.
again I am not saying that some crashes that happen are not the fault of the game alone, I am sure that a few are, just not as many as people claim.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not vocal minority. People always like to say whatever is being complained about on the forum are the "minority" of players. In game, on teams, in the broadcasts, it becomes a majority. When 6-8 people on a team crash in a mission, in the zones(all of them), you refill with the team with new players because the ones that crashed are just sick of it and log and then the same thing happens to the new teammates, it's not a minority. Then you hear everyone in broadcasts complaining about the crashing, people in your SG, computer tech people who know how to keep their machine running clean and have awesome machines, all saying they never crashed like this before I8 was released it's THE GAME. Having a few people not crash on the forums is the minority this time around. We're talking tons of people complaining IN game and on the forums. Just because you're not crashing doesn't mean it's not happening to a lot of people. All you need to do is check the forums and more importantly ask around while playing the game and you'll see how big a problem it is. Cryptic is just in denial to the extent of the problem. Lighthouse adding a little blurb I think it was yesterday about "an increase" it crashing was a first step, but it's a little late. Increase in crashing is truthful statement, but it should have been more realistic like "alot of people have been crashing since I8 was released and it a problem on our side more so then the player's computer." I've been playing this game for almost 3 years and the quality of the updates has decreased since the begining. I remember how everyone was like "what a smooth launch". Since CoV it's been a mess. We also used to compliment the devs for interaction with players and how problems were quickly fixed. Gone are those days... It's sad because I love CoX. If I didn't I wouldn't still be here. However, as someone who's been here from the start, I have to say the quality of the game and support behind it have degraded.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
KidQuik, has the thought occured to you that perhaps they wanted to get the crashing bug fixed the first time around? Bug fixing isn't quite simply "Oh, there is a bug. Lets fix it and be over with it". Newp, there is ALOT of datamining to be done to pinpoint the exact cause of the bug, then you have to investigate what is wrong with the bug, before even attempting to develop a fix. Yes, it takes time. But I sure as well appreciate the fact that Cryptic took their time and decided to do it right, instead of doing an attempted fix the day after I8 released, only to change something that had no effect on the bug for everyone. (Because you gotta remember, when 100, 000+ players play this game, and not everyone is on the forums. You gotta be sure to get em all).

Its something that the team cannot wave a magic wand and make disappear. Its definately not something that cryptic can devote its entire workforce into.

Ontop of that, lets say Posi DID just put the entire game on halt. Devoted everything he had into getting the bug fixed fast. Well, now I gotta wait an additional month or two for I9, or I gotta wait longer for the V-Day event.

Stop thinking so 2-Dimensional. The game needs to meet the demands and satisfactions of MANY MANY players, and so far Cryptic has done a bang up job working on it. I salute them for being able to push this far, and look forward to seeing more.

Now thats just plain mean. =(

Yes, but we're talking about a bug that in reality has existed for almost FOUR MONTHS. Between the time before it hit the test server, the time on the test server, and the 2 months live. 4 months to fix a very serious bug? Something is wrong with that in a product that people pay monthly for. Even Microsoft usually rolls out a patch in a month for a serious Windows bug and then there are more to be found. That's my problem with this whole thing. I9 will be released and given the track record of updates there's usually a big bug in them. I still think one of the best ones was when the front door to the tower in Grandville was MISSING. It was fixed fairly quickly though. I don't expect them to stop making updates and holding off for a year to release a new one, BUT I do expect them that if they are going to release updates to be at least be fairly major bug free and if they do release the update with a major bug have an idea what is causing a bug and it will be fixed quickly. Right now CoX is sorta like a lemon car. This bug isn't just affecting scrappers, one cable/DSL provider, just Nvidia or ATI(though ATI problems an entirely different complain in themselves),one server, etc. It's affecting all walks of players. That I consider MANY MANY players with super gaming rigs and ones with lower equipped machines. It's not a whining player thing in regards to a nerf, it's not about Winter temp powers, it's not a Justice or Freedom specific incident, and it effects those with better equipped machines and those not so well equipped. In other words it's not a player's fault issue, it's Cryptic's issue. As for being mean I don't think I am. What I do think is mean is that I and many others are paying money to play a game every month that we're enjoying less and becoming frustrated more because a problem is not being fixed in a timely manner and we have extremely poor communication from devs and moderators who should be a little more forthcoming in communicating with the community about the urgency and impending fix of the problem. It's like calling customer service to complain about something wrong with your purchase and them not being able to help you in fixing the KNOWN problem effecting you and thousands of others, shrugging it off and just thinking you should keep be content with your defective product that you paid(and continue to pay) for. It's almost like calling Dell's tech support in India! You tell them you're still waiting for your computer to be shipped, and then they ask you "Let me get this right, you're inquiring about a computer you've already received..." COMMMUNNNIIICAAATTTTIIOOON!

[/ QUOTE ]Have you LOOKED in the Community/Dev Digest lately? There's been more posts by Castle, Positron, Statesman, Visigoth, et al, in the last two months than there was in the FIVE MONTHS before that! I mean, honestly. I think you're deliberately wearing blinders here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Right.. And 98% of those posts don't address the game crashing. Most are about previous MMoGs played, interview reaction responses, responses to complaints about power changes, and missing patch notes.. Very few on things that effect so many players like crashing for 2 months because of a bug that's need to have been fixed long ago. Once again, priorities are screwed up.

Instead of directly taking on the effective way of talking to the PAYING customers about the ultra crappy game play the past TWO MONTHS with the crashing ALONE, they proceed to keep quiet about progress in fixing the bug, urgency in fixing the bug(I mean it's only been TWO MONTHS), they choose to spend their time talking about animation changes and what other MMOG's they've played before... Priorities are obviously really screwed up here. Don't they realize people are leaving because of the crashing and the inability of the devs to SERIOUSLY address the problem and talk to the community about it? I'm not talking nerfs, etc. I'm talking about a major problem that is effecting MANY MANY people. [/ QUOTE ]

What do you want them to say? We KNOW they are aware of the situation- they started a whole thread on the subject to try and nail down the problem. Daily updates would just lead to more wasted time on answering stupid questions like "When will it get fixed" it will get fixed when they find out what is causing it. Not trying to be a dick to you KidQwik, but really you have to know they know of the problem, and they are trying to nail it down.

Taking a few minutes out of the day to drop a post in a thread about what games they previously played/worked on is a good thing and again it only takes a few minutes- but it improves customer realtions greatly.

Trust me they are not tone deaf of the situation. And it only hurts the issue when a few posters of less than reputable reputation can't go a day or two without posting a thread in the bugs thread filled with nothing but hyperbole and crap. It wastes time and creates more more problems and crap that the Dev's have to sift through to try and find the real causes to the problems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I8 was on test for how many weeks? Then it was released LIVE with this major bug and it's STILL there? So at this point we're talking about that has been around probably 3.5 months so far. I for one don't really care for WoW, but when they release stuff updates they aren't this bug filled. They obviously have a very good QA team and people who know how to address the problems AND fix them before they toss the game up live just to put it out. This hasn't been Cryptic's only release nightmare. Another major one that comes to mind is the Sound Loop crash bug that took a while to fix. If the devs knows of the problem then it should be fixed before it's released live. Sitting around for 2 months with everyone on your team going "they need to fix this crashing problem YESTERDAY" and almost everyone else in the zones(notice not just one) saying the same thing. We know they've held off releasing stuff before because of a "problem". Double XP weekend was almost comical in the sense that so many people lost out on mission bonus XP because they got CRASHED before the mission was over. It was especially fun during RSFs. Either hire better programers who know how to fix the bugs or don't release something as defective as I8. We all deserve some sort of compensation at this point because it's such a major game problem and has gone on for far too long. All one needs to do is look how the patch notes miss things STILL. There's not only a lack of communication to the customers but also IN the company.

If it takes them posting an update on fixing the bug ONCE a week then it should be done. Not this sort of hush hush thing because it's bad PR for the game when they're trying to get more people paying to play. What's really sad is when I see new people who have just joined or are trying out the 14 day trial thing say to me "I keep crashing, this game sucks!" it sort of defeats the campaign to get more customers when what you show them is a buggy product to entice them. I love the game when it works, I've been here since prelease CoH and got my 33 Veteran Rewards. Having been here since the begining I can honestly say things were much better in the early days of CoH. We had nothing but praise for Jack, Cuppa, etc. These days it's completely opposite. Concerns are snubbed, major bugs take too long to get rid of, but what's important is to get rid of the pose at the end of Soul Storm which everyone loved... Get my point? Priorities and communication skills at Cryptic to be put simple.. SUCK.

There could be no issue any larger for someone than crashing because that means not playing. That is bigger than any other bug.

Some people are crashing a lot. Some are crashing more than they used to (I am up to 1 a night from 1 month or less). I am running at 2 GB RAM, on dual 3 GHz P4s yadda yadda yadda.

I crashed multiple times last night along with most of the other other people on the continuously rebuilt with new people team. We'd save spots for a few minutes, some would come back and we'd reinv and some were just like "screw this" and logged. I think it's a bigger problems than capes. I did notice something though that seemed to make the problem happen more for me. Some missions we'd go into would drop your toggles upon entering them. I'm talking about even turning off your sprint type toggles. Whenever I went into these missions where I had to turn on my toggles again upon entering the missions I and everyone else on the team crashed more. Then of course we'd exit the mission and start heading to the next mission we'd have people crash while traveling so.. I don't know what the exact recipe is to crash but obviously the people supposedly working to fix it don't know either. Hopefully this patch on test clears up the problem. I'm just a bit annoyed it's taken two months to hopefully fix and it's sort have been treated like a hush hush things with the devs. Reminds me of when someone was able to get admin rights or whatever and logon as a redname in game and reset the servers. Cryptics response pretty much didn't even respond to what actually was happened but more or less was like "No one's information(other than their own obviously) was breeched". Was all done not really addressing what happened because I guess no one likes bad reality PR like hackers getting into the game or constant game crashes... Here we get a simple tiny patch note that gives us a hint at a fix to a major problem but we have a more elaborate one about a snipe animation... An example of Constructive Feedback

I'm sure making a few sentences in a thread won't negatively impact a dev's schedule. But that's not the topic of the thread anyhow.

If you really have constructive feedback about issues, create a new thread regarding stability issues; don't hijack this light-hearted conversation on past MMO experiences.

Tact also helps if you want to get a point across without coming across like a forum troll. No insult intended, just friendly feedback.

In any case, this isn't the thread to air your grievances with the game. However, If you've played other MMOs and want to share your experiences, please feel free to post in this thread.

    Peace

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shrugs. When you have so many people complaining and little response from the devs about problems affecting MANY(see the many many threads about the issues plus the unanswered PMs) then you gotta do what you gotta do. If the devs can't give answers or at LEAST some progress update to serious problems affecting the game and the paying players but are quick to take part in idle chit chat than there are much more serious problems at Cryptic's CoX department that need to be addressed than bugs...

It's affecting a much larger player base. Try asking people in broadcast if they're crashing. Maybe since you're not crashing you don't notice it. But once you asked, I'm sure you'll be introduced to lots of people crashing. Peace.

Instead of working on I9 or even posting info on I9, why don't you get everyone there working on FIXING the crashing since I8? Even if you have to make the animators serve as coffee runners for the programmers staying late at night trying to figure out what's causing the crashing and ACTUALLY FIXING IT, I think it would be a much more important to do this instead of release I9 which will add an new assortment of really bad bugs(just a guess given the bug filled releases of the last few updates). It's not only a 2% of people crashing problem. When 6 of the 8 people on your team all are crashing in missions and different zones it's not just a few people with crappy computers. You send a broadcast out and everyone is complaining about it. You read the forums, the same deal. Go back to I7 and people who weren't crashing then are now crashing in I8.

The PR on the crash bug has been nonexistant. It's like denial on the fact it exists or isn't important. We've had more posts today from the devs, power people, and board managers on what MMOG's they play then on the status of this bug which has been going on since I8 was released. Priorities are way off maybe? Even cable companies refund money for down service. Maybe Cryptic needs to start doing this since the last few months of the game crashing, being knocked out of teams, having to reform teams 4-5 times to complete one missions, etc, has really not been worth the $15 a month. Fix the problem already... Don't release I9 until you fix THIS problem before you get set to introduce a new batch of them. Thanks...
  14. Agreed. I'd really like to make my own apartment, room, etc that I can design, etc. I can understand why there are only a few(or in some cases for the power hungry, one) people who should be able to edit a SG base, but it takes away from everyone having their own little universe and ability to use the base editor. Some SG leaders are like Cartman in the WoW episode of Southpark. They want you to do this and that and are the ones who manage the prestige, enhancements and insps dropped in the bins, etc. Screw that. I don't play the game to fullfill someone else's fantasies, I play for me! I hardly play in SG mode anymore because I have to choose between Infamy and Prestige on higher level toons. Infamy and Influence win these days. I'd much rather have control over where my prestige goes then give it to someone else to use at their leisure with no returns. The way base raids are at the moment they're the same repetive grind of people making pits where people end up spawning after every death after they're locked down in the pit by the defending group the entire raid. That's boring! No challenge and doesn't require much skill if you ask me. Get rid of spawning points where everyone spawns, make people be able to spawn all over the map, and some SGs will have their win rankings drop because all they know how to do is lock em down in the pit, slaughter em, rinse, repeat. BORING!
  15. I'm really interested in there being some kind of personal Lair option that we can use our Influence or Infamy to make. Reason being it gives everyone the option to use the Base Builder and design things. Some SG's are run by people that act like Cartman in the WoW episode of Southpark. They have to have control over everything from the base design, to the costume costumes, to the way raids are run, etc. I'm seriously considering leaving one of my SGs for this very reason.

The game is supposed to be about having fun, not listening to someone bark orders on Teamspeak and get pissy if you don't "play the way they want you to". Base raids to me are fun when people aren't pinned down in a pit in the base as either defending the base or raiding the base. To me, keeping another SG stuck in a pit for 30+ mins is boring. It's not challening. I'd rather have them running around the base and going after them. That's a challenge, that's fun to me. Same would apply if we were raiding another base I hate zoning into the base and being instantly killed because the base raid bug with the same spawn points STILL isn't fixed. Whole SG zones into base and everyone is waiting to stick us to the floor and instantly kill us.

That's why it would be nice to make our own little apartments, caves, or whatever. We can invite other toons to come look, part, but it wouldn't be something that can be raided, just for show just like our costumes. Our own MTV cribs like place to be seen. This will let those of us who are in dictatorship SGs have a chance to use the Base builder to make places for our toons that are just cosmetic and give us no more powers, etc.

Besides, by the time MUO comes out, I'll be more than ready for the switch, as I'm sure most of us will be.

There's one. How many to follow?

Oooo look, the marvel MMO lets me do X, CoH/V doesn't. Oooo, the marvel one has better performance cuz it's written under the heavy guidance of MS and thus will be coded in D3D... heading out. Oooo, the marvel one let's me be a wolvie clone without getting the smackdown by the mods. 50K players exodus.

Sorry folks, not seeing an upside here.

Unless Cryptic intentionally makes the combat system completely different and uses the extra advertisement to gain more players.

Whatever. We'll see. For now, I'll maintain my pessimism.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not too sure how I feel about this Marvel thing. The cool side of it is for XBox and PC players to both be able to play it. It's also the downside. It may pull people from CoX which I'm concerned about. Will Spiderman and Magento serve as contacts or AVs or will players be able to get Spiderman's powers but not call him/her Spiderman? I think being able to do Marvel powers for their heroes/villains just under a different name would totally make the original heroes/villains not so unique. I dunno. I'm also bit concerned because we have CoX people going to different projects(OMG, I MISS CUPPA!) and then red names who've been missing in action for a while or ones that later are confirmed no longer with CoX. Makes me wants to say Oh Noes! 3 times. Bill.. And to think about all the problems ATI users will have just doesn't help. :-b

Be sure the Invention System is accessible to casual players (especially those not in SGs) as well as so casual and small SGs.

In the past its been stated that the Invention system will use the Universities. I suspect that it will have nothing to do with SG bases other than sharing the use of salvage to create item.

Uh oh. Makes me want to take back all the salvage I gave to SG in the base. From now on I'll be saving my salvage.
  18. One thing I've seemed to notice and might be crazy is it seems when I finally slot an enhancement with a x5 or x0(15, 20, 25, 35, 40, 45, 50), and my enhancements are +3 with these typed of numbered enhancements, it seems they don't work as well as they should. For example if I'm 32 and slot with 35s it almost seems like the powers seem to be working less then if they were +2ed for like a 34 enhancement. It's almost like the enhancement is too powerful for my toons to fully get the hang of so they don't work too well until I'm a level that makes them only +2(35 seem to work better when I'm 33 and not 32). I know this sounds crazy but throughout the years playing my toons it's always seemed like they. They seem better when they are +2ed and not +3 x0's or x5. Anyone feel like they're going crazy too? I seem to notice this most with ACC's, Reduce Ends, and Endurance Modifications.
  19. ACK! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I actually have this gut wrenching sick feeling after reading that and I'm not kidding! DON'T GO!!! Out of everyone who's worked on CoH/CoV YOU have been not only my favorite but countless others. When the Devs let us down(past, present, future), you have always been the one we looked towards for answers because God knows we get a buncha WAHHH WAHHH gibberish from the Devs so much. You're like our CoH/CoV Mommy! You're the ONE that has made the forum community something special for us! I remember when CoH came out we all got excited talking to Statesman. Blah.. That's so 2004. Now we all got excited PMing you or talking with you in forum posts or seeing you in game, not Statesman!

Ugh. It's really sad. It's been obvious there is a downsizing going on with CoH/CoV staff and even though your still staying on with Tabula Rosa you leaving CoH/CoV makes it feel like the ship truely is sinking. Well. I guess I may have to play Tabula Rosa then, JUST because you're going to be there. Keep the CuppaJo name there so we can all say hello to a familiar face when some of us migrate to play that.

To the CoH/CoV Mommy.. We will miss you here VERY VERY much. You made our CoH/CoV experience very enjoyable and it's because of you that many of us stayed on and kept the hope. I just wish the people you work who bounce people around and cut some start thinking about what keeps people playing CoH/CoV. It surely isn't nerfs. It's definatley not the never-to-be-fixed bugs, it's positively not the bald spots now showing through my toons hair because of some new bad patch.. For many of us, it was you, CuppaJo! Sigh. CRY!!!!!
  20. It's ok if the break free works and they drop on their face to ground. I just don't want the animation to go away for those who don't have a break free. I want to spin them till they r dizzy and puke.

But what would surprise me is if it was a bug for Ghost Widow and that we should be able to BF out of hers and they fix it so we can. That'll shock the hell out of me. 'Cause, see, then it wouldn't be har... uhh... I mean fun enough.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since the bug is in the animation, not the power, any fix will affect Ghost Widow's power, as well as the patron power version.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please tell me you're not going to screw up yet another one my toons but with this time with getting rid of the cool animations of the power. Please tell me whatever you're doing will still allow the animation effects of the power that are in place now, will still be happening after this "fix" to the break free problems. If you make it just some boring hold I'll be quit upset. The spinning around part of the power is what makes it so cool! Please figure out some way to make break frees work, but not take away the animation.
  22. If anyone is using a 24" Dell 2405FPW widescreen flat panel, here is some good news. If you're using the DVI cable that came with the monitor, go out and buy a DUAL DVI cable if your video card supports it. The one that comes with the monitor is a SINGLE DVI cable. There is an improvement in less stuttering/pausing with gameplay especially when traveling with things like Super Jump, etc. Lag still occurs because of the servers as usual, but I've noticed a definite difference for the better with the Dual DVI cable for graphic related stutters. The dual cable allows more info to go from the video card to the monitor. If you look at the cable that came from Dell, it's missing like two rows of pins even though the monitor connection allows for all the rows to have pins. These extra pins help increase the bandwidth to the screen. Newegg.com has the Belkin PURE AVI Male/Male Dual DVI cable on sale for $40. If you're not into name brands, there are cheaper ones available for like $15-$20.
  23. yeah, there needs to be a punch sound added to it along with the bzzzt sounds.
  24. And yet they added to an already overpowered Hurricane for Controllers. I really wish some of the devs played the game more instead of blindly changing things for the worse for all, and better for one AT.
  25. Looks like Cryptic has the Marvel bug. :-)
