  1. LOL...
And here I was wanting to see the "Visual Sounds" for sonic blast...
  2. The devs have done an awesome job with new gameplay options and expanding the overall game tech. I love the addition of the invention system, though it needs some work. I find it very funny how "rare" salvage is mostly unwanted and fetches very little on the market whereas a luck charm (a "common" item) can fetch upwards of 50K on the market. I understand that rarity and demand are not the same, but still feel that "rare" should mean something more than a percentage on a drop table.

My one complaint is that the recipe and salvage drops don't seem to be "coordinated" enough. That is to say, after playing a character for about 12 hours this weekend, he was not able to pull together the right combinations to craft a single item with drops only. It may have been a fluke or possibly working as intended.

Also, I whole heartedly agree that we need to see more power sets. Things like that keep the game fresh and interesting. Tanks and Scrappers really need the most help there. New contacts, new tilesets or maps, new story arcs... are all things that would be great additions to the game without having to "invent" new technology.

I'll play Devil's Advocate here a bit. Technically, you could say everything about this game is useless. In 5 years when this game is gone and dead, will anyone remember the badges you got? Will anyone remember that really cool roleplaying thingy? Will anyone remember how your final battle in PvP went? Different strokes for different folks. Some people are attracted to combat, some are attracted to catgirl rping, and some are attracted to shiny objects.

    Sorry Bub,

You're not holding my attention or my dollars long enough for me to experience it.

It's customary to give away your inf and salvege before you go.

    Can I have your stuff?

Done and Done. Hook up with me on Victory before Feb 13.

Obviously, I chose the former. New content should get out there when it’s ready. We'll be focusing equally as much as possible on each product moving into the future...
For those who have speculated that Newspaper missions are coming to City of Heroes, they aren’t…yet. That’s coming a little later in the year. I’d like to add something different to the CoH system…

In Skills, you might have unlocked a door or opened a safe or whatever....if I could guarantee that clicking on a computer could yield as cool a reward as an Enhancement, well, that'd be something.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Skills don't necessarily have to be "click" based, and even if they are, there are many ways to introduce risk into such things.
    * If you fail to unlock the door or crack the safe, an alarm is triggered.
    * If you fail to correctly read the ancient text, you misfire a spell.
    * If you fail to pacify the wild beast, it bites you in the butt.
    * If you fail to correctly identify the poison, your antidote accelerates the damage

There really are many, many, many more examples of how skills could be successfully introduced into missions and even into open zones as random spawns.
    * skills could lead to finding clues that unlock a special mission
    * skills could be used to slowly costomize the fx/colors of one's powers
    * skills should have a direct link to one's origin (i.e. computer skills should be easier for Tech/Science while Arcane should be easier for Magic/Natural)

Please, please ask us questions, Statesman. You will find so much creative energy here you'll have more material than you know what to do with.

You mastery of the inclusion of theorems into an argument in a completely pointless manner is impressive. And while it's an intriguing question, the fact that it's not an answerable one makes it rather useless to ask in context with this argument.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A thought provoking point, a shame it has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Despite suffering from a complete lack of pertinence, I'll be sure to give your words all of the consideration they are due.

The "with the other variables held constant" condition is a valid and widely used statement in logic and debate. Thus, "with the other variables held constant", ED would have yielded a far different outcome had it not coincided with the release of "City of Villains".

    Think before you post.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    *sigh*

Let's see if I can lay this thing to rest.

At I5 - and now again with ED - some claim that the game is "dying" and that thousands of players are leaving. This isn't true. We're actually gaining customers. Not hundreds of thousands, but we're gaining nevertheless.

Then all of a sudden I read Armsman's post where he talks about our original launch subscription numbers - which isn't really the point. My entire response on this thread has been focused to I5 and ED reaction - so the more pertinent number to look at would be what our numbers were just previous to I5...not our numbers just after launch. Never did I make a claim that we have more subscribers now than we did last year. My point continues to be: ED and I5 haven't created a ghost town out of City of Heroes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *sigh*

Now remove that little variable in the equation called "City of Villains". Where would your subscription numbers be if ED had gone live without the launch of a hugely hyped expansion? Your mastery at the prestidigitation of facts is astounding. Had ED gone live sans CoV, then we would be looking at an entirely different scenario.

We're making some tweaks with Defiance in the upcoming patch.
It is not getting a major overhaul though. Just tweaking the defiance so it starts to kick in earlier. The overall buffs posted earlier are staying about the same (getting only slightly better), but you will be receiving a damage buff earlier in your health bar now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have tested this with high levels and low levels. I wish I could see the benefit the development team seems to see in this "solution". At low levels, playing with an orange health bar is only marginally survivable... moreso if you can manage to keep at ranged combat with your mobs (as the ranged attacks of low level foes are far inferior to their melee attacks).
At high level, however, NOTHING has changed. I still get perma-mezzed, I still get one-shot defeats by bosses, I still run out of break-frees, and I am still out-classed at ranged combat by ALL foes... minions included. A Carnie Strongman can hurl a boulder (which will follow you around corners, mind you) farther than many of my ranged attacks AND do as much damage to me as I can to them.
Where is my Range = Defense? Where is my advantage in Ranged combat? In the endgame, blasters will rarely survive long enough to reap the advantages of Defiance. You know it, and Statesman knows it.
Please quit trying to sell us the Brooklyn Bridge.

Edit: changed "I wish we could see the benefit " to "I wish I could see the benefit "
  10. Hi Manticore,

My one question concerns the availability of quality information about zones, villains, events, missions, and contacts in-game. It seems to me that there is little more than a paragraph written about any of those things in-game. This is most obvious during missions, where immersion into the arc is a scant few sentences in our clues section and mission briefing. Even the blurbs we've read to earn the history badges is unavailable to us. What changes, if any, are going to be made to help immerse the entire team into a story-arc, mission, or Task Force?
  11. Where is the developer response, I wonder?
  12. I will agree with the hordes and suggest that defiance in it's present form is going to be of very little use to blasters. It is a very interesting and "comic-ish" approach to the blaster dilemma. I was very much taken aback with Statesman's suggested play style in conjunction with this new ability. I wonder how much actual research went into the aforementioned "best practices" strategy before it was keyed and committed to the forum? A bit irresponsible in my opinion.
I do have a suggestion that is somewhat different from the others I've read. If it is a repeat of an idea, I apologize ahead of time. I would like to see the defiance bar fill up as we take damage, but quickly drain at a rate of, say, 10% per second. When the blaster reaches 1 hit point, the defiance bar will no longer fill, but the blaster will no longer take damage from incoming attacks. He/she has a last, defying action to heal, run, or perform a final parting shot. If the defiance bar empties while the blaster is at 1 hit point, then the hero is defeated.
While the idea is quite probably flawed, something along these lines would be far more useful than the present implementation.

Identifying is very different from fixing. I cannot imagine I4 will be ready for quite some time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I second that. I'm a developer, and it can take days to identify and devise a fix without breaking something else... Even if the fix itself only takes a couple hours to code.

FYI - I'm a HUGE kaiju fan (giant monsters).

    OH! The PAIN!!
  19. First, thanks for the "hotline"! I also wanted to thank the developers for a chuckle I had the other night. One of the civilians in Galaxy said (paraphrased) "My brother just got a cybernetic arm from Benedict Technologies. I hear they're the best at what they do."
What a great nod to Zelazny! Thanks!
