Of course, the amusing thing is there are also people who spent time on the forums complaining about the fact that Controllers and Defenders share powersets.

[/ QUOTE ]

Those people are idiots.

Defenders do NOT equal controllers. Vastly different purposes and playstyles. If you trap yourself by basing the whole character ONLY on your primary.. that is your own damn fault.

Power sets across ATs aren't linked. They can be balanced seperately.

[/ QUOTE ]

The dev's used the exact same numbers for pretty much all the primaries that brutes share with scrappers and tankers. I don't think they care to balance anything seperately, making more shared powers an almost foregone conclusion.

Inv for scrappers and tanks use different numbers. Brutes and stalkers use the same numbers as scrappers but with different HP(I think so anyway). That is just how the devs decided it should work out. It isn't because there is no ability to seperately balance sets. By all rights energy aura could be ported directly from brutes without a single change. It would be quick. It would be easy. There is no reason why it shouldn't happen

What really gets me is that sharing more sets would produce almost instantanious content. You change a few numbers around for balance then ship the set over. No time spent on power animations. No time spent up thinking how whole power sets should function. You change the numbers.. ship it.. BAM! Instant new toys to play with. How many new powerset combos would you get if you added only ONE set to scrappers? How about tanks? I think broadsword would fit them. Big and slow.. and a nice alternative to that ugly axe.

It would be the easiest way in the world to produce content.. why not do it?!

Maybe not quite THAT easy.. but it is certainly easier that having whoever does the animations to come up with a new set of effects for essentialy the SAME powerset just so ATs can have exclusive power sets.

Besides... I can understand the view. Sure, I think some of the sets could be spread around a little more, but I also *like* having certain sets that are only available on one specific AT.

Lets put it this way, Kitty...

Take CoH and CoV. Would you be content with CoV if all it was was simply a few graphical changes from CoH? There *needs* to be things that are unique between the two, simply so people don't get that "More of the same" feeling. This is the same thing with Powersets. Simply changing a few numbers is not sufficient. There *needs* to be powersets that are unique to that AT.

Posted

The only thing I would really like to see one day is a Faultline Trial.

And yes I have to agree with LiquidX. It is nice to have unique powersets for each AT. I would just like to see more where there is an obvious lack of them.

Posted

I play different ATs because they play differently. Who has what power set only matters to me when it starts to [censored] over my ability to play the characters I want to RP... which is quite a long list considering I have a year+ of "Oh that is goo... oh wait.. right.. exclusive power sets.. and this character wouldn't suit x AT.".

Hey, there are certain powersets I wouldn't mind seeing on other AT's as well. (Like Broadswords for Tanks). But I can fully understand why they want to keep some powers unique for an AT.

Sigh..

Not even LOLcity!!!1 can seem to fill the massive hole of depression. I had almost forgotten the very.. very.. extremely.. excruciatingly long list of "characters that will never be made thanks to exclusive power sets".

I think I am going to go find some good text based RP to occupy me tonight. COH is suddenly reminding me of all my unfulfilled ideas..

Inv for scrappers and tankers uses exactly the same numbers. Those numbers are then modified according to AT.

The way I look at it is no differant than the way Origins vs Limiting Power Set Choices goes.

There is no good argumant for limiting Naturals to only AR/Dev and no travel powers.

Why is it ok to limit Power Sets to AT's the same way?

Spiderman is "Stong" and "Agile" ... Sounds like Super Str and Superior Reflexes to me.

A Defender con get Trick Arrow and Archery right now. Why can't they get Traps and Assult Rifle? Or atleast a Traps-like set slanted more to Debuffs?

He blued out all the CoV stuff.

So, essentially, here's the break down:

Day after issue 6 hits: everyone asks when I7 will hit.

A month after I6 hits: everyone complains that there's no news about I7.

Two months after I6: everyone claims that I7 will be the worst issue ever and everything will be nerfed and oh my god I'm quitting.

A month before I7 hits: news is released about what'll be in it. Everyone gets to complain about that.

Two weeks before I7 hits: I7 goes up on test. Everyone gets to complain about what's in there or what's not. Then everyone gets to complain about what gets nerfed or what gets buffed. Then everyone gets to threaten to quit.

The Day I7 Hits: Everyone complains about the servers being down or I7 not being ready to hit live or taking too long to go live.

Day after I7 hits: Everyone starts asking about I8.

[/ QUOTE ]

Replace '6' with 'X-1', '7' with 'X' and '8' with 'X+1' and you're dead on.

Thought for the day:

Weird..

Well how about fire melee for brutes and tanks. Didn't they replace a whole power?

Seems making sets different across ATs is easy enough regardless.

On the other hand, the devs have never promised that the game would include new powersets added often, or that zones wouldn't be magic based.

[/ QUOTE ]

Though, to the same extent, they never promised both PvE and PvP content in every patch.

New issues bring only one new promise: new content. And it's up to the player to decide if that new content is for them or not.

[/ QUOTE ]

If my bank promised that I would not have to participate in ATM/internet banking to use my account, and then they kept closing branches and shortening their hours quarter after quarter, I might consider that they aren't delivering what I had reasonably expected, even though they have not expressly broken a promise.

If the devs intent is to only offer new content primarily via PVP zones and CoV from here on, I shan't call them liars or any such thing, but I think its fair of me to want to know if that is their intent, or if at some point I can expect them to redeploy some resources back to my favorite parts of the game.

However, if an express promise is required, when people were concerned about Crotoa being 25-35 instead of 30-40, the devs acknowledged that there is a content gap in the 30s in CoH and promised some content to close that gap would come "soon".

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it would be better to say that if a bank promised you would never have to use an ATM, and then promptly doubled the number of available ATM machines. It still doesn't affect you. They DID just spend billions of dollars on development that has nothing to do with you, and as ATM machines become sweeter and sweeter, you may feel a little neglected with your checkbook, but they're not making it HARDER for you to use your checkbook, they're just making it easier for everyone else to use their ATM card.

Cryptic hasn't REDUCED the amount of PvE in the game. They haven't even made it harder. They haven't cut back on the badges or storyarcs. They haven't removed anything that wasn't already there. In fact, since PvP came out, they cut the door-mission debt in half and will shortly be releasing a patch that will reduce AVs to EBs for soloers.

So they've made is easier and more accessible to PvE. They just haven't done AS MUCH with it as they have with PvP. Unless you count CoV, in which case they nearly doubled the PvE content.

I always wanted an Elec/Elec Tanker to go along with my friend's Elec/Elec Blaster. I guess such won't happen or maybe will with enough fuss. Electric Armor and Electric Melee should be shared with CoH!

[/ QUOTE ]

ELECTRIC MELEE AND ARMOR FOR SCRAPPERS AND TANKS!

ENERGY AURA FOR SCRAPPERS AND TANKS!

::Starts to sob violently.::

I want them so bad..

Please give them to us..

I BEEEG YOU, STATESMAN!

::Sobs::

[/ QUOTE ]

Miss Kitty you should know by now that if the devs didn't randomly pick one or two powersets to keep isolated to a specific AT that no one would ever want to play that particular AT...either that or the world would collapse in upon itself...I can never remember which...

[/ QUOTE ]

Bullcrap.

Archetypes play vastly different. A tank doesn't play like a scrapper. A scrapper doesn't play like a brute. A brute doesn't play like a stalker. I have played them and they are DIFFERENT ATs. If the ATs aren't different enough on their own without some false saying they are different then they shouldn't be different ATs in the first place.

Exclusive powersets are [censored]. They do NOTHING except frustrate those of us that want to play with these powersets in the manner another AT would use them. If I want to play a tank I will play a tank because I feel like tanking. If I want to play a brute I will play one because I feel like being a brute. I play scrappers because I like playing as a scrapper.. not because of the powersets they have.

I call BS on anyone that says AT exclusive powersets is a good idea simply because it makes the ATs "different". It doesn't. It just makes them frustrating to play as you try to force them into the playstyle you wanted IN THE FIRST PLACE.

You tell 'em Kitty!

[/ QUOTE ]

Been saying that since I started. SS Scrappers. EM Scrappers. Nerf the set if you must, but share 'em.

The dev's do NOT feel the same way. Statesman certainly does not. And that's really all there is to say.

[/ QUOTE ]

It is sorta nice that there aren't Dark Blast blasters. A *little* bit of exclusivity doesn't kill the game!

[/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't do anything for the game either.

Except when they're nerfs;

Stateman sez:

Concern=Small Tweak.
Don't worry Regen Scrappers!

[/ QUOTE ]

Month later, Regen gets to choose between physical and status protection. Statesman sez that's a "small tweak" because they only had to move some numbers around.

I guess that only works when they want it too.

I'd feel alot better if in all the posts prior to the actual issue 7 announcement they had stated that they were giving new power sets for villains only rather than just new power sets.

Yes, it would have been nice if they had said that Issue 7 content in general would be focused on CoV. Still, they gave no hint on any new content for CoH, so I wasn't expecting anything. I was hoping they might have slipped in some useful content for CoH, but oh well. Maybe next time.
