Sentinel+ character extractor: Here it is!

The utility explicitly and intentionally ignores Inherent (unslottable) and Temporary Powers. The prestige sprints are in the exports, though.

If you have an old Windows install disk and find that VMWare or Parallels isn't an option, CoH can also be made to run under VirtualBox, which is a free virtualization product that has an OSX version available.

It crashes when you start it up due to an OpenGL bug in CoH, but I, uh, have a patch. If any Mac users find this is a route they need to use, you can PM me and I'll provide it.

Thanks for this.

On Windows Vista (inorite?) I had to run it as Administrator. Potentially could be the case on Win 7 as well. Worked perfectly once I granted it permission.

Thank you so much for this! Even knowing the character is archived, and the information isn't just "vapor" is a lot of peace of mind. You guys are amazing!

A quick question: I assume that this tool doesn't in any way "capture" items held in e-mail or on the market, correct? So things like enhancements would need to be claimed on the exported characters to "preserve" them, right?

Yep. Wouldn't work for me on 7 until I ran as admin, then it was fine. Thanks for posting that!

Do you run CoH/NC Launcher as admin? I'd imagine this program would need at least as much privileges as cityofheroes.exe (I run CoH unelevated, and didn't need to elevate Sentinel+).

Correct. Claim your stored items before exporting your character.

You know what? I bet you're right. I don't even notice whether I'm authorizing it, but... yep, sure was. Huh. I wonder how long I've been autopiloting my logins? =D

Since they have access to beta, can they transfer their locked toons there and then have access to the toon? Don't have any premium accounts to test this, but may be a workaround, even if it is a pita.

Also, thanks Guy. You folks really are Titans.

But... but I have more of those than actual primary and secondary powers.

Actually, now that I think about it I have more of those than most players have influence.

Hey Tony, this is great. Thanks for all the hard work and energy you've poured into this and the game, and best of luck with the efforts to save it.

I don't think I can bring myself to log in right now, but I'll definitely be using this before the end.

Ok, I hate to sound dumb (and maybe there is an answer already in this thread further along than I have read), but what will this do, exactly?

I get the basic concept-- that this saves our character data-- but to what end? To export to another game if CoH is shut down? Or in case our characters are somehow erased/ deleted?

I am a bit confused as to the purpose.

Bare minimum? If you keep an updated version of the client program--like, say, the beta server install--on your computer, you can use the data from this file to create a demorecord and go back and look at your character later.

However...it could, theoretically, be used to export the character to another game. If a compatible game were to ever be made, since--to date--one has not.

At the end of the day, it gives people an archive of their characters so they have some record of what they used to have. For some, just knowing the information is in there is a big relief.

There's also the possibility of using it in the future to import into some other game system, like private servers. We'll have to see what the future holds.

Can we get stuff back with a petition? I heard it has been done in the past.
My stuff was robbed! I didn't care if the game was gonna end anyway...but if it is not...Dude sold all my 50 enhancers, every item in my base I worked 5 years on. he then kicked everyone and deletes bases! Years of work and lots of money!

So.... if the tool can read all of the badge/bio data if you have the info window open, is there any way to make a version that would read the auction and/or vault data if those windows were open?

Don't get me wrong, I'm utterly amazed at how far this has come already. If the data it saves now is all we end up with, I will still be ecstatic over being able to save the core characters themselves. It would just be a nice perk, since a lot of my characters tend to be lugging around a lot of stuff in their auction slots/vault.

they said they didnt do that cause its more busy work really, if you want to keep the item just make sure its in your inventory
