  1. One last chance to get loud and get mental in Paragon City

You sir, have done a great job in demonstrating why I love this community on several different levels.
  3. Very nice. I feel as if I now have unlocked the DNA of my character. Now on to the cloning chambers!
  4. Interesting. I live in the area. Don't know when we'll be on vacation though. My daughter has driver's training (yikes do I actually have 15 year old kid) and band camp. We're going to have to plan vacation around that. If I can I'll try to come.
  5. I logged into my main server this evening (Infinity) and went to the Pocket D Ski Chalet. Nobody was there. I went in a time or two I left, and came back once or twice and at one point found three people moving through. I logged into Virtue and it was packed. Infinity used to be a pretty good server. It didn't have the traffic of Virtue or Freedom but for a time, it seemed to be the 3rd server to get two yellow dots when things were really busy. So it never was TOO packed to get on, but still always had enough people. Even recently you didn't need to sit around in RWZ for long before a trail or TF started up. Lately, however, things just seem dead. I know people have said that about any given server (except Virtue and/or Freedom) but I have been there since day one of Infinity and am now starting to see that.

I've been playing since day 1 of general release. Infinity was my 1st home and it has the first toon I ever made (Vis Viva of course). I really liked it. I used to hang out with the gang from SiRadio.fm when that was the "home server" for the Unmasked show. Heck, I even DJ'ed and ran Unmasked for a couple of months. I have toons on Virtue (I even have a lvl 20 "Vis Viva") but if I make a new home on Virtue I would have to move key members of the "Vis Viva" family including Vis Viva himself. Like I said I made him on day 1 so I have to keep him on whatever my "home" server is.

So anyone else "move" here recently? Any other refugees who have made the jump? Anyone else thinking about moving? What went into the decision?
  6. This wouldn't be a problem if the Statesman administration wouldn't have scrapped solar-based XP research! Now we just have to hope hydrogen-based XP can puck up the slack before we run out!
  7. Hey thanks, I think I has always tricked it in the past somehow (letting it start to install somewhere else or some nonsense).

Still, it does seem that the updater-system doesn't work and play well with how multiple users and such works.
  8. Is it just me, or is the act of getting CoH to work on multiple user accounts on a given machine ALWAYS a pain in the butt? I have read several of the guides but it sure seems the same exact thing never works twice.

I'm always having to fight updater trying to re-re-re-install itself in some annoying new directory each time I try to get it to work on a new user account on a new machine. I've found this to be true of both Vista machines and Windows 7 machines. And yes I play various games about deleting or moving the checksum file but it never seems to work the same way twice.

Today my problem has been on a new Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium machine. And the part that had me spitting angry at the machine is that when I copied the desktop shortcut to updater for my daughters log-in account (from mine) I had to delete the checksum file to get it to work. Annoying but after a quick check it let the program run. For some reason it won't work when I do the same to my wife's account. And don't get me started on what happened when I tried to put that on the "public" desktop. Each attempt to run in on every user account somehow messes something different up.

I wonder there some kind of registry silliness that KNOWS what account it is being activated FROM and if it is "new" then it has some need to do some kind of re-installing silliness.

Weirdest thing was when I had it on my daughter's desktop (which I had set-up as a Standard User) it needed an Administrator privilege. That in itself is only a little weird since every single CoH related file in the CoH directory AND the shortcut icon were supposed to be set up to allow her admin control over THOSE files. What was weird is if the admin privilege was granted by MY account information (still logged into my daughter's account just prompted for admin log-in) it works but if I do it from my WIFE'S admin (still have not gotten her actual account to work with CoH) it has the same type of re-download craziness as on her desktop with her actual account. So somehow what admin privileges you are using is kept track of.

And by the way, we ARE talking about multiple accounts on multiple machines. My daughter and I both have CoH accounts and we both, of course have user accounts on the various machines in our house so we aren't trying to use something we haven't paid for.
  9. So...anyone do this particular hero alignment mission. I have NO CLUE how to finish it. Looked through Pargon Wiki and found nothing. I get to the point that it wants me to "Defeat Two Fortunas" go free the Rogue Bane Spider but uhm...then what...WHAT two Fortunas? It isn't two random ones. If you stand around the guy you are rescuing mob after mob comes at you (no Fortunas though). Are you supposed to take several mobs THEN they throw the "right" Fortuna at you?

There was a two minute time...it ran out while trying to figure out what to do when the mobs started coming. That usually means you can do your task uninterrupted for two minutes THEN you start getting hassled...but WHAT Fortunas?
  10. Ahhh...so you had it happen too then eh? Well it is something to keep in mind, and keep your eye on. I wonder if I can get the devs to delete my "streetwise" badge though.
  11. So I am taking Vis Viva, a hero, through the hero tip missions (he IS a boy scout style toon). I had the tip for the "Nut on the Radio" mission and picked the hero option. Somehow I was given an ENTIRELY different tip mission to go after "Shock Treatment" (a vigilante mission). It seemed odd when I got in the mission door (didn't look like the mission advertised) and it was only when I completed it that I saw it was a vigilante mission.

As I said I didn't want any vigilante badges for Viva (he definitely is a boy scout-type). Just something to be wary of. If you don't seem to get the "right" mission make sure you are not doing one of the wrong alignment from what you want.

btw I did later get the tip mission with the "Shock Treatment" vigilante option, and chose the hero mission for that tip.

    Weird though.

Oh and I did bug it.
  12. Not working for me either. I tried twice on two characters. I tried the 2nd time after the waiting a day on the 1st. There isn't room for ALL of the characters if BOTH take (only did the 2nd because I assumed the first failed for some reason). I had three open slots. Hope that doesn't' complicate things.

Stupid question but is the free transfer to test OFF for now?
  13. Anyone involved in any good gags?
  14. Glad to see efforts to keep RP on Infinity alive. No need to have to move to an "RP Server" if you are otherwise happy here. It doesn't need to have the MOST RP as long as it has ENOUGH RP.

I AM breaking format a tad, but that is because these two groups are not yet RP heavy but are RP friendly and might become RPers, and one is not MY group but a friends group (on which I have some alts).

I am good friends with people from Paragon Broadcasting Service and have some alts in there myself. Anyone who knows about SiRadio.fm knows about them. I'd have my main there if it weren't the fact I already had my own SG before I became affiliated with them (I'm a DJ there right now)

    They are hero side

Concept: Basically the SG base is "the Avenue" with shops (including a magic shop), a restaurant, a dance club, and a movie theater. Ask Jules or Nelks (or me, Vis Viva, I have alts there) to show you the forklift...Nelks is a NUT

There is no RP night at this time. They are not a PURELY an RP group at this time, but many will RP with you if you like.

Contact: Basically I am telling you about them because they are RP friendly they are NOT my group but they won't mind me mentioning them If you want to contact their leadership, however, about anything contact @Jules or @Nelks or @Vis Viva (I'll forward the info to them).

I run Legion of Valor: Infinity

    It is hero side

Concept: The basic idea is that the base is a Museum of Science, Industry, (and Superheroing). It has been stripped to totally rebuild it. The new ROOMS are all there, and all the stuff to be a functional base (porters, med-stuff..things like that) are there but the RP stuff has not been put back yet. Actually the hydroelectric plant is back..hey I need power. Nelks is the "architect" and is a bit busy right now. Viva's lab has stuff in it. The story THAT is there Vis Viva is having trouble with the permits (and some funding regulations allowing him to KEEP stuff in the building) so right now is only a clearing house for other museums.

There is no RP night, at this time,

Contact: Basically I am telling about this because I am RP friendly. The membership of the group is fairly light right now, but I will start to actively recruit more people when the base is done, or almost done (Nelks is a perfectionist) contact @Vis Viva if you want to talk to the leadership.
  15. Well I cannot get onto the game. I get an error message after login

I get the error about either the server being down or my firewall being the problem.

50% of the time this is Comcast.

  16. I think part of the problem is copy & paste. First they were not "click-able" errors (i.e. the orange explanation errors). It looked perfect, but attempts to publish it and/or play/test it and it would not work. I would get a generic error like "ally unaware text too long". I would get one of each item that was too long, but since I had several allies I could not tell who.

I had written the text in Word and copied it over. Each On the last two iterations no individual text item had a word count (according to it's respective word counts) over the limits. Many, however were close. I took a few characters out of the items that were close (like 98/100) and THAT error would go away.

So basically I had to play with each "higher" word count to find the "broken" one, since there were NO active error codes unless I tried to play it. I think there were some "invisible" characters that appeared when I cut and pasted which the word count did not see, but were still "seen" when I tried to play it (or publish it). This broke the mission a couple of times though. After fixing it once when the work count was reduced, I had this problem crop up after it appeared to be working. After that time I "fixed" that same error it happened again for no reason.

I think cut and paste (that and 1 actual reduction to work limits) were at fault somehow. It would be nice if the work count on the top of the text window would actually count the same thing that would let the mission be working or broken.
  17. It is not all griefers. Some people out there are just hard graders especially for 5-stars. They are like teachers who don't like giving 100% for anything. I can understand. They play a 5-star and ask themselves "sure it's good but does it deserve a 5-star?" as opposed to playing it and saying, "wow this is really good so I'll give it a 5-star". It's not unfair, but just tough.
  18. Alright I don't want to be a baby here but a mission of mine "broke" again because of dialog limits. That is three times for this particular mission. I know WHY they do it but the 3rd time that happened...yeah...kind of frustrating. The worst thing is for this particular failure it does NOT direct you to the "broken" part. You just get a generic message about not being able to test or publish it (it will say ally or enemy dialog too long but not which one). I have to hunt through ALL the dialog to find it.

Then there is the other issue of putting all the effort into the dialog and having to keep cutting it. Is this how reporters feel? I mean I am trying to tell a story here. Soon all the dialog will be cut to "Thanks" from allies and "Curses" from enemies.

Okay, I'm done venting....I'll go back and HUNT through all the dialog and start cutting as much as I can.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I like the philosophical side, are you a Hero for upholding the laws of an unjust ruler? or are you a Hero by breaking the laws and fighting against an unjust ruler?

I am envisioning a city with open PvP or at least PvP flags ...

an open beta is nice but the servers will crash ... lol

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah but is that ACTUALLY states or is it Tyrant?

If it is, then who does a boy-scout, rescue-a-kitten-from-a-tree, help-an-old-lady-across-the-street kind of hero pick in a fight between a fascist dictator and a supervillian?

I love the idea, and it will be a lot of fun, but for one thing If I wanted moral ambiguity I would just spend all my time in the real world.

Now if you can fight AGAINST the power on the side you are on that would be interesting (stay blue-side and be a subversive or go red-side and try to fight for justice). Of course you would always be hunted. Secret Identities would be very useful.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

I'd love to see the roleplaying possibilities this would have on Virtue though.

Heck, I'm usually on Infinity and I have a few good RP ideas for that.
  21. Abso-freakin-lutely I read that stuff! That is 85% of the mission for me. If you aren't going to put a STORY into it I don't want to play your mission. As a matter of fact, the main thing about MA that bugs me is they keep REDUCING the amount of allowed text for characters and stories.

Heck I would like it if there were places to introduce more dialog. If I could make my allies say things throughout the mission (even to each others) that would be awesome.

    MORE STORY!
  22. Vis_Viva

    NO FLY ZONE?

Yeah, I'm having the same trouble too. I'm using some pre-"fix" allies and some new ones. All should fly (pre-fix ones used to) none do under ANY circumstances. This includes in outdoor zones. They are now MUCH more likely to loose me. Part of "tricks" of some of my stories is knowing who to rescue 1st, and how well they can follow has a lot to do with that. Plus if they can fly when following you they are more likely to avoid unnecessary mobs.

I hope the devs are paying attention to this "fix". I mean I am patient if it takes a while to resolve this, but I hope they realize there IS a problem with the most recent tweak to fly and that is not working right.
  23. I've heard that. I wonder if my vet status (day 1 general release) got me invited the other times I've been invited (twice but I only participated once).

Yeah...but after I13 I swore I would be more active on the boards again so that I had a chance of getting in the I14 beta. I didn't do that. So I have 0 chance of getting in.

I HAVE done closed betas before but it has been a while. I still PLAY actively I just don't contribute to the boards as much. I even have an idea for a 4-ish mission arc Oh well, I will just wait for the general release.

Forum activity is only part of the criteria. I've also seen completely new and inactive accounts being invited to closed betas (kinda makes me wtf, but hey I'm not the one picking). Veteran status has a weighting, as does activity of various sorts (filing bug reports and such can't hurt).
