IMO, making it a separate utility is the better course of action, as it leaves Sentinel+ to focus on what it's meant for. Anyone using grep to search through the file could likely handle throwing some pipe action in there.
I'm thinking a separate utility is the better option as well, and something that can be explored downstream when the Titan coders have more time.

There's a Mac version of it, that reminds me that we need to get it added to the main page. Here's a link:

Sorry to bug you, but i don;t know where to put this.

When i run the Mac version of Sentinel+ I get the following message;

dyld: unknown required field load command 0x80000022/bin/sh: line 1: 8107 trace/BPT trap ‘/users/Jenn/Desktop/sentinel/sentinelplus.app//contents/resources/scripts/sentinel’

and then it closes...saving nothing in the process... Plz help??

What version of MacOS are you running? IIRC, "unknown required field load command" errors are caused by bugs in Apple's methods of compiling software for older versions of MacOS.

That's probably it, then. If you've got access to a computer with a newer version of MacOS, try doing the export there.

Works on Lion (10.7) fine.

Are you just installing it to a desktop folder, or moving it into the applications folder?

(thx for the help guys)

I'll have to check with our Mac guy, but I think the scripting system it uses in order to prompt for the Administrator rights it needs to access the COH process may only work on 10.6 or higher.

I think most people are probably just running it from the desktop. Not exactly conventional, but it keeps the exported files somewhere easier to get to than in Applications.

If you can't manage to get it running, you can probably bypass the script wrapper and elevate it manually from the Terminal. If it comes to that I'll try to dig up the invocation needed to make it work.

I ran it on the desktop at first, but I put it in a folder in documents and it ran from there as well.

The dependency wasn't created intentionally, but I'm running Lion, so CW is probably correct.

Was this ever resolved? I can offer more help if needed; feel free to PM me.

I still don't get what this does exactly.

It "saves" your character but then what?

For the "what if" you can export back into something that can use it some day

I've already forgotten about most of you

It's possible that the CoH successor being discussed on the Titan forums could do something interesting with it (not a straight-up character import, though), and there's a good chance that someone will come up with a "display your character" website that can use these exports.

Had to put this up on my FB page.

Even if these saved characters can't be used for anything else the simple idea of saving our characters so that "some" version of them exist beyond the CoH server shutdown should be reason enough.

If a full CoH server emulator can't be set up I'm still hoping that someone may be able take the standalone CoH character creator (that was created for the Korean version of the game) and update it with the latest Issue 24 database. If we can't play the game anymore at least we'd be able to tinker with the latest-and-greatest costume creator. *shrugs*

Updating the Korean creator is pretty much impossible due to how many changes have been made in the game engine and data formats since then. You might be able to port some pieces manually, but it would be almost like re-creating them, and they wouldn't look the same.

Fortunately there is a better way.

Finished saving off all of my wife's characters today. I forget how many (140-ish?). Mine are already saved off.

Will be resaving in the end of Nov those characters that we've run since saving. Union, Freedom, Justice and Infinity folks are on our current play lists, but we are zeroing down to just our few favorites from them now.

Thanks for making the tool! I'm hoping to need the data from them, even if it ends up just being a standalone costume /powers creator screen.

So, finally got around to using the tool. Since I'm not VIP, didn't take long to save the few characters I still have access to.

Then tried to save all my inaccessible characters by porting them over to beta server. Only to find that the tool doesn't work from there.

I get why it doesn't, but this means I can't 'save' a bunch of my favorites. :*(

On the download page there is a version for the Beta server. Grab that and you should be able to extract the data from the characters on the Beta server.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I can confirm that this works!

I have both programs installed in the same folder, and the export functions quite well for beta and live characters.

The only issue is going through all my characters that are locked and making sure I get them all over to the beta server...
