Quote:That describes me, unfortunately. If you're not VIP anymore, I guess you can't run the mission I made. If you're curious, let me know and I'll email you a summary.
I'd like a copy of the summary at (EDIT: Message received, thanks!
), please. And don't none o' y'all go signing me up for Time-Life Book Club or anything.

So, finally got around to using the tool. Since I'm not VIP, didn't take long to save the few characters I still have access to.
Then tried to save all my inaccessible characters by porting them over to beta server. Only to find that the tool doesn't work from there.
I get why it doesn't, but this means I can't 'save' a bunch of my favorites. :*( -

... can we at least get a batch of global slot unlocks for active players? So us poor slobs who got caught in Premie-mode can at least say goodbye to our locked toons?

Royal Sovereign is on the way!

Quote:Well, Jim's already been emailed about the current state of affairs. Sadly, I can't recall the last time I saw him online here. probably nearly two years ago. And he's not great about reading email anymore - half the time if I need something timely I end up emailing Shannon.Regarding Jim Butcher playing CoH. I have just set up a thread linking to the Petition and Titan Network's 'Save Paragon City' forums over on Jimbutcher.com's community forums. Don't know how often/if Jim pays attention to the posts there, but hopefully someone will be able to bring this to his attention.
I know we're trying everything, and we should, but frankly I think even if every man, woman and child in America. including Obama and Oprah, personally wrote NCSoft's CEO a letter, they wouldn't give a flip. To me, the only way anything happens is to present them with a more-than-fair offer, then when they turn it down we sue their arses. Not that I think even that would work, but at least it has a chance of getting a judge to buy into it. -
Adding my two cents - Matt, you and the crew here have continued to amaze me over the past 6 or so years by your consideration for the playerbase. It's criminally rare in this business. I'm gonna miss this place, and all of you.
Oh, and Tyrrano says you taste pretty good with ketchup, but he had to go see Mako's dentist to get the plating out of his teeth. Like eating popcorn...
Open Skies, brother. *waves* -
Which explains why I rarely play that arc - I loathe Sky Raiders. The Engineers are almost as big a PITA as Sappers. At least if the Sappers nail you the fight is brief and you go visit Faceplant City. If you miss an engineer the fight becomes soooooo freeeeakin loooooooooong because you keep whiffing.

That probably means your monitor's native resolution is 1920x1080. Modern flat screens really don't like being forced into other resolutions and doing so can result in some quirky behavior.

Still amazed that my main villain's name, Tyrrano, was available. I made a copy on every server, cackling with mad glee the whole time.
Almost as amazing was my main hero, Royal Sovereign. Someone else got it first on Freedom, tho. *Really* surprised when we got access to the euro servers and it was still available on Defiant. -
You can also scope out other places around the school. While they are gating their official guest access wifi, I bet it'll be trivially easy to find some rogue nodes. I have one near my office at *NAME OF SCHOOL WITHHELD* that I use.

*Imagine a news anchor desk. Behind the desk sits a small bespectacled lady. She picks up a piece of paper, squints at the camera through her thick black frames and speaks in a high-pitched, squeaky voice...*
"What's all this fuss I keep hearing about violins on television? Why don't parents want their kids to see violins on television? I thought the Leonardo Bernstein concerts were just lovely, now, if they only show violins on television after ten o'clock at night, the little babies will all be asleep and they won't learn any music appreciation. They'll learn to play guitars, and bongo drums and go to Africa and join these rock'n roll outfits and they won't drink milk! I think there should be more violins on television and less game shows, it's terrible the way... "
The news anchor interrupts her with a confused look and says, "Um, Emily, that's *violence* on television. Not violins."
"Oh. Well, that's very different. Never mind."
RIP Gilda. -
First things first, we'll need a CoHhelper report, too, and a HiJackThis report. DXDIAG doesn't really tell enough of the story.
The standard answer here when someone says "My machine plays (fill in newer game here) just fine, why is CoX so flippin' slow?!?!" is that CoX has always taxed hardware more than any other game I'm aware of, even many newer, sexier games. I'll let the forum regulars comment upon your hardware setup and how capable it should be, although just at a glance it looks like it *should* do fine. -
There is a nice feature in this mechanic. I have a ton of toons. When I backslide to Premium, I have 7 total slots to play with. 6 of those I have on my 'home' server, with 1 global slot on my 'secondary' server. When I get everyone relocked, I can unlock 7 toons of my choice - I'm not stuck with the same 7 I selected last time. So I can focus on 7 different ones for awhile if I choose.
I had feared when I first read about it that I'd be locked into those original 7 toons for ever and ever, amen. I was pleased to learn otherwise. -
I got much better results by targetting a pet and attacking through it. Very rarely got invalid targets and was able to single-target hit mobs much earlier.

Twitter is teh Debil. Kids these days and all their social media. Why back in my day, we used *email*! And we **LIKED** it that way!!!
Yeah, OK , I'm being funny, but I've seriously never understood why the fascination with Twitter. I just don't see the need to be *that* frickin' connected. -
Just reinforcing what Memphis Bill said about SO-only builds being quite acceptable. I was a long-term casual player before going idle awhile. Came back, like you, due to the ability to play free, and found that my IO builds weren't usable. I VIP off and on, so I didn't want to nuke those builds, so I started using the secondary build option to do SO-only builds, and frankly I'm surprised at how well they hold up.

One more simple thing to check. When you update, any firewall you're using sees CoX as a changed program, so when you go to log in, many firewalls will pop up a box asking you to approve the change. This should happen when you attempt to log into the server selection process. If you're running CoX full-screen, the dialog box will be hidden. I had this happen and it really stymied me the first time, until I happened to CTL-ALT-DEL to get 'unstuck' and when I switched to task manager I saw the dialog box patiently waiting for me to click it. Now I know what it wants and I barely even think about it.
