Could I get in trouble for this?
Honestly, hard to say. You're not impersonating a specific person, at Paragon Studios or anywhere else, any more than you would be if you used the name "Temporary Staff". It's a fun pun because it suggests some work-a-day schmoe at an office, but it certainly doesn't imply any specific venue. I can really only see some shuffling busybody having a problem with it.
Unfortunately, they're usually the ones running things.
Edit: Oh, and as a semantic point, before some chittering know-it-all inevitably comes along and points this out in the snarkiest manner possible... you don't actually "own" the name. I'm not sure what the correct term would be, but NCSoft essentially "owns" everything that happens on the game servers.
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
Too bad there isn't a Toxic armor set... then you could be Staff Infection.

I saw a Staff.Infection on Freedom I reckon all versions of that would be taken by now.
I reserved Staff Infection on Champion months ago. XD I'll be making him if we get a certain toxic armor set. >.>

I've had Nemesis Staff "parked" on Justice ever since Staff Fighting was "leaked" months ago. Re-rolled him as soon as I realized the set was live, at about 1am PDT Tuesday morning.

Honestly, I do think the name is potentially problematic and you may have to change it if it gets reported. I doubt there would be any other reprocussions unless you actively tried to impersonate a real staff member, so I think you could just wait and change it when/if you have to instead of rerolling. Alternately, you could express your concerns to customer support and see if they will give you a rename token now.
As long as you're not saying "I'm an employee of Paragon/NCSoft" (which, IIRC, shows up differently anyway,) then no, there's no problem. And given the number of other "staff" names out there, I'd frankly think someone would have to be dropped on their head multiple times daily from age 1 to 20 to be confused.
Don't worry about it.
Oh, on topic: I'm pretty sure all of the devs have "NCSoft_" in their names, so there's no actual mistaking you for an actual employee of Paragon Studios. I think the chance you'll be generic'd or something is quite remote.
(I know, I know. If I need to ask I shouldn't do it, but I thought I would ignore that and ask anyway)
Anyway, on Freedom I own the name "Staff Member" |

Oh, I don't think that name has that problem at all. Including the disclaimer in your bio is nice of you. I don't think it's necessary, but it's good to be prepared!

The problem is that someone might mistake the OP for a non-employee deliberately masquerading as an employee (granted, it would take a fairly oblivous person who didn't get the pun, but there are plenty of those too). Any time someone gets a name reported, there's a chance it'll get genericized. Having to rename a character isn't the end of the world, but it's something the OP should at least be aware of (and maybe think up some replacement names ahead of time).

If you're really concerned just put a note in your character description (Menu > ID) saying you aren't a Paragon Studio employee, like this:

Regarding the OP's post, I say don't worry about it. The name Staff Member is sufficiently generic IMO to not warrant getting...errr, generic'ed.

Anyway, on Freedom I own the name "Staff Member" When I made the guy I thought it would be a funny pun. "I'm a member of all the people trying out staff fighting" I didn't think of it as a staff member of CoH. (as someone pointed out) Now, I'm a loyal CoH fan, and don't want to get banned or anything. Maybe I'll just reroll, and let someone else have the headach But if I put in my bio "Not a member of the CoH staff or support" and deffinatly don't plan on pretending to be. Is there anything in the EULA that says I can't have this name? Like I said, maybe I'll delete the guy, but it's an interesting question to say the lest. (PS sorry about the spelling, typing this on my iPad and it won't spell check) |
That doesn't mean people won't bug you it just means it's not a EULA issue. that also doesn't mean you won't get genericed. In the forums had a friend names Tech Support and they strongly suggested he change his name. Its a cool name use it.
