I was just about to ask if a Mac version was in the works... I'll take it that's not the case currently but could change...

If worst comes to worst, I've got Boot Camp (sans Windows, never used it)... if the hour grows late hopefully I can fall back on that.

At any rate, thanks, Codewalker!

Will download this later, when I get home.

I was already grateful to you for the regular Titan Sentinel and all its awesome features, including the ability to export a MIDS build (which I took full advantage of on Friday night, during my own archiving efforts)... but this is really above and beyond. Thanks to the coders and everyone else at Titan Network.

Sir, you are a scholar among gentlemen.

Also, for those of you on macs, and us running the game on linux, this thing is so well put together follow the same instructions with the exception of double clicking the executable. Don't double click it, just right click and then open with wine program launcher. It will work just as intended at that point. MAcs I think may be able to use, crossover games is it called?

Also, it lets you know when you didn't open the info_self, so awesome.

Ok, after a very quick google search

Wine says you can get it for OSX, I would get that and then do the 'open with wine program launcher' thing and I suspect it should work since OSX and Linux both share the same unix core features for the most part.

Wine link for you guys

The Mac client is distributed with Cider (Transgaming's fork and port, basically). I was testing it with that (using the cider.real binary), trying to see if it'd work, and one time it printed the first line, but never anything more (and never even that any other time). Same results both with and without the game running. It would pretty much just sit there the whole time until I killed it.

I, unfortunately, don't have a wine installation handy to test whether it would work better on the OS X version of wine.

Someone definitely try this and see how it works. Like I said, none of us have Macs so we have no idea. If it does, then hey! Guess what! We have a Mac version! (But it's bigger than 30k if you count the size of WINE.)

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

You'd _probably_ have a better chance of it working with the Mac version of WINE than with Cider, but honestly I have so little experience with the Mac client that I'm guessing wildly here.

I'm kinda in the same boat Kits, I don't have a OSX installation handy to check if wine works the same if it does in linux

Theres enough Macs running around here though, someone hopefully will pipe up and let us know the results.

i think you guys best bet would be to talk to cuppamanga about this since they are the mac guru lol

I'll try this when I have the chance, thanks Guy. I'll be looking for that elusive "ý" that was tripping me up last time

It was "ÿ", actually. (-:

But that was in the Mids export. This is XML and doesn't make any character encoding assumptions.

It will produce .xml files in the same folder you run the EXE from. Hold onto those .xml files for your own records, as they may be useful someday soon.

It is saved on your computer in the same directory you stored sentinel in. I suggest making a folder and calling it "coh toons" and running from there.

Posted

Awesome. I'll give it a run as soon as I get the chance. Here's to hoping we won't need these but... better to be prepared to salvage what we can.

OMG!

This is excellent news. And so much easier than taking a screenshot, then capturing notes to go with it, which is my own clunky workaround.

If you've lost your VIP status, don't lose heart. I'm speculating (so please don't link back to this as "proof" of anything), but I'm guessing that at some point they will probably make all accounts VIP. Zwillinger mentioned it in the Coffee Talk vidcast yesterday and said they'd check into it.
That might be problematic, but I did ask a couple of red names to look into the possibility of either handing out a ton of server slot unlocks or just unlock every slot with a character currently in it, so players can at least log in any character they want.

Just figured I'd mention:

The program started crashing upon start after the 8th toon I used it on.

Zoning seemed to fix the problem.

Notes:

Running WinVista64 (commence laughing).
Toon was a Rogue in Atlas Park.

Zoned to Oro, program worked again.

Went back to Atlas Park and it worked.

Damn! I was trying to pick between the two in my character map and I didn't pick right. Accursed rotten memory! So, at least now, can I brag about having my own version of the old Sentinel?

Just got the 'no badge detected' message; even though the P-Info window was already open.

[After a third try... it went through w/o a hitch]

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

* Does it happen every time?
* Does it happen when you zone?
* Does it happen on every character?
* Are you certain it's your character's info window?
* Does your character by chance have zero badges?

It's saved on your computer. As Guy said it saves them in whatever folder you happen to be running it from. The program doesn't make any network connections, so if you're paranoid you can safely deny it network access with a firewall.

And if anyone is wondering what use a bunch of raw data could be, I'll crosspost this from the Titan forums that helped make it clear for some folks:

Quote:
Currently the XML is pretty raw. But the point is that all the information is there, so if we want to go back later and create more tools to "pretty it up", we can take our time doing that rather than rushing.

For example, it wouldn't be too difficult to make a script that reads that file and generates a .cohdemo that you can then play back using the client -- whether the servers are still around or not -- and view your costumes.

*It was the first I had seen of it (after 15 toons)

*No

*No

*Yep

*At the very minimum, all of my toons have 5+ years of vet badges (but the toon did have others besides those)

[So far, it seems to be an isolated incident... nothing further has happened along those lines]

Restoring VIP status would be a nice gesture. Many thanks for your character extractor in the meantime.
