This! That was actually part of the email I sent to Gabe Newell(who knows if he ever read any of them); I advised that many people would probably be willing to double the subscription fee, and floated the notion of a 20-30% price increase in the market.
I know I wouldn't. I can barely afford one subscription fee at a time let alone two. And by raising the subscription fee by double is saying I am now paying for 2. I think if they did that you would see a lot of people leaving. $30 is too expensive. $20, maybe, but $30 no way no how.

TwitchTv, Zwill says...

- Cryptic wasn't responsible, there were "no evil machinations", Paragon had the engine license "in perpetuity"

- SOE buyout is "not to my knowledge".

- "Lots of reasons" why they can't confirm or deny whether NCSoft is even considering selling; NDA's mentioned.

-
engine will not be released to public. "No. No."

- They CAN run events if they want, it's a server code issue, like Halloween, Winter, etc.

- Refunds for points, etc: "Anything you've heard is more than I've heard."

- On the last day, they CANNOT blow up the world, because that would take code and devs which they "don't have anymore." But "We can maybe spawn a bunch of stuff. That would be interesting."

- Zwill just spawned a bunch of walkers and a Lusca

It's good to know they are trying. I dont really know how petitions and such would really help but I guess I've signed the ones I've found.

My worry is that the longer we don't have a resolution the harder it is going to be to retain devs.

It will also be harder to retain players. People have been bolting to other games, like CO, TSW and others. If they find they really like those games they might not want to come back.

Sadly, I doubt the Devs will stick long enough to know.

Say a best-case scenario they figure a way to transfer the IP and data to another company/wealthy individual. They still need to get the legalese out of the way, which is probably going to take a [considerable amount of time.
If you're one of those 80 people do you just take a break for a few weeks, maybe a month or two or do you attempt to get hired by another firm?

As much as I'd love for this game to stay intact we should expect a new dev team if that does happen. I'd expect some of the engineers and lead devs to act as consultants though to get coding/lore/IP stuff transferred at an intellectual level.

Don't worry Zwill lot of us know that talks is just that... talks.
But it does add to the possible hope of something happening, more at least lets us know that we as the players aren't the only ones doing...something

This reminds me of a situation that happened with Halo Wars. Bear in mind, a friend told me this so I'll try to recount it as best as I can:

Halo Wars was cancelled two months after its release, with the studio (Ensemble) shut down and so on. However, the game still persists today (on Xbox 360 though) because the people in the company mostly stuck together and reformed into a new company (Robot). Robot eventually got put in charge and ownership of Halo Wars despite not having any credits.

Revision: I read the Wikipedia version and it differs a bit where the studio shut down after game completion (Not release). Hmm, still...

Quote:
On September 10, 2008, Ensemble Studios announced that it would close after Halo Wars' completion.[50] Ensemble founder Tony Goodman and other employees announced the formation of a new studio, Robot Entertainment, shortly before the game's release;[51] another group of ex-staff created Bonfire Studios.[52] Robot announced that, while developing new intellectual property, it would support Halo Wars and Age of Empires through a partnership with Microsoft Game Studios.[53]

I drew this for my friend Ninja Earl. I aspire to be a concept artist.

Even if nobody pays THAT much into it, there's still a lot of us who'd be willing to contribute even just a small amount.
If the entire player base donated $1 a person, I think they'd have somewhere in the area of $9,000,000.00 give or take a few thousand. I'm sure that most of the player base could afford a little more than $1 too.

Did you just bequeath Paragon Studios am infinite amount of good luck?
I mean, giving up your luck despite needing it to find work, for the benefit of others would insure that Karma would grant you more good luck. Which, in turn, would go straight to Paragon Studios, causing Karma to grant you more good luck...etc.

You go girl!

I would say it would be more akin to DC's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" story arc written decades ago.

Do you, honestly, see our developers not giving out an account wide badge if the game does manage to survive?

I say open up the game to "investors." I would definitely be a willing investor in this game if that was what the "new, parent" studio was based on. Of course, I am working on something similar in my personal life for a business opportunity and I have been amazed at the number of people who are interested in owning a "share" of my idea.

Of course, getting that past the lawyers and the SEC has been a challenge but we are still working on it. I am definitely one of those players that would be willing to "invest" what I can on this endeavor as this has been one of my main sources of entertainment for nearly 7 years. If my investment also happened to coincide with a "lifetime" subscription and that subscription lasted even a few more years all the better!

Zwill and company if you guys do get to that point and are looking for player funding or investment please send me a pm. Oh and by the way, I love this community even though I dont post often!

Actually, pretty sure that one was found in game. In the detailed info for powers, you can pick an archetype to show attributes for, and the Primalist was on that list.

Sad it got canned though. We still needed a Praetorian Epic AT, after all.

The fact that NCSoft is willing to discuss it at all is what's giving us hope. We know it's not something to count on as a promise of anything, but if they haven't totally slammed the door yet...

...what I'm wondering is whether the fact that they're open to discussion isn't a reaction to the outcry from the players.... and/or their investors turning to them and saying "You cut one of your few titles that was turning a profit? What the pancake?!"

At this point, a small hope is reason to be excited. If it doesn't pan out, it doesn't pan out...but at least we have something to cling to.

I didn't hear the great news that I wanted to hear in the Twitch TV Broadcast today, but I did here hope not in the things that ZWillinger said but what he didn't say. He couldn't comment on any talks that were going on, if they were going on, but he didn't deny they were going on either.
I have been glued to my computer for days. Keeping my Toons in Atlas waving there protest signs surfing the forums both here and Titan. Surfing Facebook and Twitter. Posting stuff every where constantly. Signing petitions and writing letters. Today I had to take a small brake. I went on a ride on my Harley in the country, and it really helped to clear my head.
I hope everyone will try and be at the event Tony has planned for Saturday on Virtue. I have to work unfortunitly so I will not be able to be there till a few hours after it starts. I wish I could take off work but responsibilities demand that I not miss work.
We still have our Hope and sometimes Hope is all you need to win the day.
