ain't that the truth. It's really cool to see just how many people care so deeply about this game but I think the way NC Soft have dealt with this will be used as an example of what not to do in years to come.

Next year, he wants a drum kit.

Quote:I have a lifetime membership and the passion of the designers really shines through (I did one of the new investigation missions with a friend at the weekend and we were googling musical scores and sheet music and giggling all the way, just amazing) ... but it is nothing like CoX and it isn't exactly without its own issues at this point (*cough* team let go including lead designer). That being said there's a free trial and if you finish 30 missions (not that hard in the first zone) you get a free garlic bread ... or an extra couple of days play time. Try it. You'll either love it or hate it.Heroes Villains and others,
If you have not tried the game the secrete world give it a look over.
it is still in the new stages but on a whole, it is a nice game.

I'd play it as a standalone server, single player, iphone or collectible card game. I'd even play a turn based facebook game if it had the lore and powersets.
hmm... -

Plant can feel like a one trick pony (but what a pony) until you get creepers and a couple of other things fully slotted out. I've had fantastic fun with a plant/fire and been rendered speechless by what a fully tricked out plant/psi can do.

Went over to the beta server to take a look at what there was ... I was planning on returning in the next month (I've kept 2 subs going just not had time to play) and the combination of bio armor and that set of missions in KR around the skulls (I have no idea if that's currently on live) was just great. Then I went and looked at the new blaster/dom things and then I went to get drunk.

Quote:That really is crazy; I think it's a bit of a stretch to describe what happened as "wisely spun off". NC don't have a great track record with previous games (I went to read some of the comments on youtube videos for TR/AA/dungeon runners at the weekend; they were very samey).but they also still will be forever associated with whatever that thing might be that they created and grew and then, when the time was right, wisely spun off to flourish on its own. And holy crap, when that came to pass, people would be incredibly happy and full of gratitude.
The analysis someone linked http://unsubject.wordpress.com/2012/...e-world-event/ makes a lot of sense of their behavior. I don't necessarily like it but it makes a great deal of sense (I know nothing of the guy's record just saying that 2% down from 18% of revenue would make this more understandable). They aren't my enemy but the way they've dealt with this makes it really unlikely I'd ever deal with them again. No emotion involved in that statement. I'll wait and see what they will do about all those VIP subs that are set to run past 30th Nov; I'd have expected any company that knew what it was doing to have that sort of info released at the same time as they announced closure. -
Perhaps we could have a big red ball in the moonbase?

I think anything that logs out during a TF/SF keeps the clock running (the only way I can explain some of mine)
Shock & Flaw 395 hours
Light Petting 1060 hours
Ice Blight 521 hours (damn kinetics always chosen in preference to my brutes)
Dark Petting 9830 (no chance)
CEBR Tooth 12 hours (my favourite 50, the clue's in the name)
even so, I'm guessing some 2k-3k hours total. Wow. -
OOh, so so many. Full with all additional slots on Union purchased. Ones I'll particularly miss
Light Petting
Dark Petting
Satan's Trampoline
Shock and Flaw
Generic Villain 001 (made on release of City of Villains)
Meerkat Gangbang (was waiting for nature affinity on that one)
Taxibot (peacebringer, did I mention I'm kind of a d*ck like that?)
Maledicta/Maledictus (courtesy of the new pope and 2 italian friends)
Sharkbot 2.0
Evil Charlie Dimmock
CEBRTooth (quickest 50, deleted and played it the right way ... kept the name though)
Lady Gardener
Homer Erotic
Baked Alaska
Stinkerbell
Reclusive Lord
D'urah Xell
Sir Ganksalot
and many many more.
... with even more to come, or so I thought
just went through totting up the hours played and
a) it was too much
b) it wasn't enough -
The Secret World is truly fantastic but in no way a replacement for CoX. I'd recommend looking at it though.
XCom, Last of Us ... very very little MMO based right now. I have a lifetime sub for CO (2 actually) and I STILL subscribed to CoX and played here out of choice.
Already tried Warhammer online (which was actually fun)/Rift(s?)/DCUO/APB ... only thing that kept my attention other than CoX was L4D. -
Uninstall it Dec 1st. That makes it pretty unobtrusive

I've just had a friend that I thought stopped playing years ago forward me the petition ... turns out his kids play it now. They weren't even a bottle of cheap wine in their father's kitchen back when we started playing
.
Thanks for a great game and all the best. -
and this is from someone that had to justify enhancement diversification
I joke but there's a good point around that. At the time it caused a lot of noise but I was too busy playing with the smashtastic new brutes to care too much. Then IOs came along (eventually) and it turns out they knew what they were doing all along... As many people have said, I'm more annoyed at all the crap I never go to do yet (radiation armor! blasters that don't suck! water corruptors with not quite bannable concepts!) and the stories you guys hadn't got to finish up. The only thing I can compare it to is a 12 year long D&D campaign that didn't get resolved because the DM's second wife wasn't quite so understanding as his first (but much, MUCH hotter). I hope you all get sorted quickly, unless some sort of hail mary actually works in which case I hope you're all still around. All the best to you and the team and I meant it about that beer.

Quote:Any chance of a moon base in that one?So this isn't goodbye. I will end up somewhere and I hope that I can "run an RPG" for you all again someday.

Good luck with the kickstarter campaign but don't start designing anything till you sober up -
Quote:Screw it, Imma gunna be wolverine finally!I just started playing this game with my husband about 30 days ago, and had planned to sub with him once the paycheck came in.
Even though I've only been playing a little while, the people I've met so far have been kind, intelligent, and fun. I'm sorry that I may never get to know most of you.
That said... make your DC & Marvel clones now, amirite?
...Sorry, gallows humor... -
Quote:Ok, in the terms that you're asking... think of a dom as a blapper with control. I have multiple 50s of both troller (ill/rad,earth,storm/elec/time) and dom (plant/fire, elec/elec) and they're all fun... none can outdamage my elec/sd if anyone is measuring epeens, but they're all fun.Heyo,
Rather than asking what the best power combinations are, or how to best build one, I'm going to ask all you experienced dominators out there how the dominator is supposed to be played. What mindset should I have, what goals on teams should I try to achieve? How does one balance support and damage without crippling them both?
In terms of mindset, look at the slogan of dom nights "hold them, then touch them"
seriously, doms are hella fun even if other powersets can trump them in DPS.. enjoy! -
Quote:Rummages through old hard drives to find recording of said event and failsHmm, that reminds me.
<wibbly fade to semi-senile reminiscence>
I've done one successful Hami Raid, the old version.
I was the idiot who got to be Hami-Tank on Union's First successful Hami Raid, (which IIRC, was the first English server success, the Germans got the European first I think, but that memory's a little vague now, any French players who wish to contradict that, feel free) back when a Regen Scrapper was first choice for Hami tanking duty when backed up by a couple of Empaths.

Actually Praf, if you take Emmerts words as gospel, then PvP WAS originally planned from the outset;

[ QUOTE ]
"I know there are other ways to do player versus player in a more controlled manner. You can have safe zones for new folks and/or danger zones where such combat takes place. Dark Age of Camelot seems to be using this latter strategy fairly well. But that kind of solution doesn't work for City of Heroes. Maybe if we had two cities - one full of villains, the other full of heroes - warring with one another, it might work. But that would be a very different and, in my opinion, very silly game indeed."
Silly game indeed. This quote was from one Rick Dakan, lead designer for City of Heroes prior to Jack "Statesman" Emmert.

Who takes Emmert's word with anything less than a super tanker hold sized-pinch of salt anyway?
