  1. So let me get this strait. With all this outpouring of support from the CoH community they couldn't figure out how to sell it to the fans UHF style?
  2. It's good to know they are trying. I dont really know how petitions and such would really help but I guess I've signed the ones I've found.

My worry is that the longer we don't have a resolution the harder it is going to be to retain devs.
  3. Do we know if CoH's was making a profit? If so how much? This decision to close the game makes no sense if it was and I'm hearing it both ways. If I was to write a letter to NCSoft or SOE or whoever I would want to have my facts correct. If the game wasn't making a profit then there isn't much we can say to NCSOFT to make them change their mind.

This is incorrect or a bug. There is one backpack and two wings.
  5. So far the Incarnate stuff hasn't overly impressed me. Well I take that back. I love the Alpha slot but everything after that has been kinda meh to me.
  6. I know I got burnt out on the game a few years ago. I kept my sub active and would pop in to take a glance at the new shinys or to just fly around on one of my favorite heroes for an hour but I wasn't really paying attention.

When Staff Fighting came out I figured it would be a good time to go ahead and give CoX a fresh look since I've been wanting Staff Fighting forever. They have added so much since I stopped really paying attention that this game feels almost new to me. I've been having a blast playing the game again.

The ironic part is I'm not even playing with the Staff Fighting character I made.

*checks to see if he misposted this thread in the tank forums*

Out of curiosity. If it is THE lynchpin of the set. How am I supposed to get to level 38 without it?

Catch is she is a Stone/Stone tank and not a brute, but she certainly spends most of her time running around NOT in Granite Armor. Will you be as tough without Granite, no but considering what scrappers and brutes can "tank", tackle solo and otherwise do silly scrapper tricks with IO builds I can't imagine it isn't possible to make a very capable, hardy brute without Granite (much as Hyperstrike posted). Might you be more min/maxed going with Willpower etc.. again maybe but if you want Stone no reason to think one can't make something quite capable.

Alright Ill work with this. I've still got a ways before it is even an issue. Level 38 is a long ways off especially when I'm a bit iffy about Stone Melee. The character looks fun though so here is hoping

I didn't realize when I made the character that Granite was so static in the way it looks. Looking at it's stats it seems to debuff run speed and damage which seems odd for a Brute. and it also appears to debuff recharge which is already painfully slow on my Stone melee. It sort of looks like its a button that would turn my Brute into a tank. If I'm reading this right it also doesn't allow flight or jumping? Of course I think rooted has a similar issue. I suppose if I was playing a Tank then it would be more required from what I'm hearing and seeing so far. If a tank can get by without Granite as some of you have said then I'm sure a Brute can muddle through since killing things is how they mitigate damage

I've also looked at the crystal, or Gem shield, but it jsut doesn't look right. It might work as a computer block but the colorization is wrong and its too orderly lookign for the character.

The Theme is the character is a corrupted Crey AI. I use the Crystal power customization setting to make it look like some irregularly shaped Tron like computer blocks. Same with his Stone Melee. I even went out and got the Pixel Aura to add that in and hes even got that Unified field cape all bundled onto an experimental Crey Powersuit he built specifically to escape Crey with. He is actually the only character I have that doesn't look right when he doesn't have his armor toggled on. No other armor set can pull off this look either.

Granite cannot pull off the Crystal look. If it could this discussion would be moot. Since I jsut made the character the discussion is still moot since I can't even get the power until level 38 anyway. If the whole point of Granite is to have Granite armor then it needs to be moved up the tier list a bit. I'm mainly concerned about late game. The guy is a Brute so I'm not intending to do alot of tanking. I have tanks for that. I've just never tried playing Stone armor before and I'm not sure how the rest of the set works.
  10. I've been working on a Stone Stone Brute and I've been toying with the idea of skipping Granite Armor. Mainly because I can't make a Crystal Granite Armor. Everythign else I can fit to his theme.

How important is Granite armor? Can I still be successful if I skip it?
  11. Honestly the only thing keeping me from giving Soldier MM's a fair shake is the inability to customize the costumes me minions have.
  12. There are alot of considerations that go into improving the tank. I just want to throw an idea out that those good with crunching the numbers might be able to do something with.

In my mind a Tank should really shine at defense, While good they tend to suffer competition for that role from Brutes, Scrappers, and god help me I even have a Stalker that can tank not to mention I have Controllers which will trump all of the above against all but the most powerful of foes.

One problem I've run across that I know might get solved in late game is surviving the Alpha Strike. A Tank is supposed to be the focus of attack and preferably the first to enter combat. As a result they take ALOT of damage up front which is then defended or resisted as their powerset works. I am then left with a weakened tanker that might not be able to stay in the fight and hold aggro or may need a rest afterwards. Again I realize by the time a Tank hits 50 this may not be as big of an issue . I'm also aware that some Armor sets are generally more survivable than others. The problem is that isn't unique. Other AT's can do that as well.

Something that may make a Tank stand out is actually giving them some mechanic that lets them shrug off the alpha strike. For lack of a better word lets call this mechanic 'Fortitude'. The way I see this mechanic working is when a character is out of combat they get a self buff called fortitude, Exactly like how a Stalker will go back into hiding when they remove themselves from combat for a few seconds. Originally I was thinking this buff would give a Tank complete immunity from damage for 6 seconds after combat started until he could remove himself from combat long enough to regain the buff. However I thought that might be a bit much. I then thought about taking this new absorb damage mechanic that is going to be introduced and plugging that in instead. Basically a Tank would gain the ability to absorb X amounts of damage whenever he gets this 'Fortitude' buff. X would scale with level. The buff would only go away after that damage threshold is reached or 6 seconds after the first bit of damage is absorbed. You could then regain the buff mid battle the same way a Stalker has to remove itself from combat without placate.

It would be something that would probably be more useful to lower level tanks but even at higher levels it would let the tank stand out as the preferred damage absorber.
  13. So are their Spear weapon models in this set? Normal spears, Naginatas, Halbreds or the like?
  14. In episode 8 of the MMOrgue, Jeremy has three correspondents call in with Skype.

They talk about Player Housing in Second Life, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Trek Online, City of Heroes, and even the recent announcement by Cryptic Studios that Player Hideouts are coming for Champions Online.

MMOrgue episode 8 - Player Housing

For those unfamiliar with the show. MMOrgue is a show dedicated to discussing and editorializing the trends in the MMO market and MMO's in general.
  15. The Gladiator sysetm was your biggest dissapointment?

I liked the system. We had fun with it. It's problem was one of balance. Basically all you had to do was bring 3 CoT Arch Mages and you either win or stalemate everytime.

I wondered why this system was never fixed or mentioned. It was fun.
  16. They like throwing this one out over in the STO forums.

    It's a game not a simulation.
  17. Subjective Feedback: Just seems rather specific to a certain type of subgenre of Mutant. an Unstable mutant of something. Not realyl a problem withe the mechanics or teh power itself. It just seems like you would have to intentionally design a character around this concept as opposed to Mutants generally being able to do this stuff.

I know it wouldn't make any sense on any of my Current Mutant characters. *shrugs*
  18. Meh I didn't care for the first place graffiti one. and I much prefer the original graffiti number 2 to the adaptation. The rest I loved.
  19. Something that can cause problems for me is dust on my CPU. I've racked my brain before doing every software thing I could do. I've gotten pissed that a game like CoX wouldn't work right when more visually complex games would. It all came down to a little bit of dust buildup on my CPU. MY game would work fine for 10-20 minutes then all of a sudden it would just stutter real bad for about a minute then go back to working for 5 minutes. freeze, unfreeze, etc etc..

Speedfan wasn't even picking it up because the CPU just had a small hotspot but it was enough to cause the graphics to go into extreme stutter mode. Even if your tools are saying your CPU heat is fine check it anyway. I just ran a couple Q-tips over the cooling fins and collected a suprising amount of dust. I have to do that every other week. It instantly fixes the problem I have. You might take a look at it. Hopefully it'll fix it for you.

  22. Cathedral of Pain anyone?
  23. I know this was a joke but I think it would be kinda cool if lower leveled heroes coudl mess up a mission and actually spawn an event or mission that needs higher level heroes to come in and fix the problem.

Like Failing to stop teh cahzilok PLague would create an Evet where REally tough Vazilok Zombies appear all over PAragon City and you have to stop them while trying to manually find and dispose of his chemicals.
