This is an interesting one. So I'm running around Sharkdead Island with my shiny new Demons Mastermind, minding my own business, when some odd person whose name ends on a question mark calls me up via tell. We have the following conversation:

[Tell] Guy?: would u like some mega xp?
[Tell] -->Guy?: No, thank you.
[Tell] Guy?: lol u turn down xp?!
[Tell] -->Guy?: Precisely.
[Tell] Guy?: u must be a noob nm lol
[Tell] -->Guy?: *Polishes 66 month badge* Ayup!
[Tell] Guy?: 66 vet and ur still a noob shame

So, there you have it, folks. The big news for today - I'm a noob. And here I always thought I was just a garden variety idiot. The more you know, I guess.

*edit*
I'm ashamed I got my veteran badges wrong, by the way. I just checked, and the last one I have is 69.

I would've launched into a debate about the use of the term 'Newb' vs
'Noob' and then proceeded to explain the various ways this game differs from the other MMO's. That it's about the journey and not the 'Uber XP's'

Once I realized this was getting nowhere I'd inform them of the irony that the real Noob is the one that rushes through 6 years of great content in a ill-concieved notion of being 733t.

Of course, this would all naturally led to the Guy? saying something along the line of "Lrn2Ply" at which point they'd get the 1-Star and ignore treatment.

OK, I will admit, I was kind of a ******** at the end, but come on, now. My first two responses were pretty sensible, weren't they?

Actions speak louder than vets you can have a 6 year vet badge and still be a noob.

However, just because you dont join a PL farm thats not the definition of noob, the definition of noob is the one who runs in those farms then comes out at level 50 expecting the rest of the game content to be the same difficulty, and of course gets everyone else killed then complains because 'MA iz betta tiketz yo'.

You're such a noob you actually use three letters to spell "you". Loser!

I find it hilarious whenever people bring up veteran badges in discussions and such, especially when i know there's noone who have more than me

"I'm a xx month vet i know this game!"
"I've played for xx months i know whats best"

Funniest was prob when i was in a team and we had a tank and another tank asked to join, and a person in team was like "don't invite two tanks just hurts more than it helps" and i was "let em join, team makeup don't matter unless it's a master of", bit of arguing ensued and the vet issue was brought up and i just laughed, then it took maybe 5 mins and i got a tell from the person "you've played this game for a long time you should know i'm right" they had apparently did a badge check hehe, i replied with something like "yea, and so i know any team makeup works", then the person got so rude so i just left the team and i immideatly got tells like "aww you ragequit?". Found it hilarious, pretty glad the ignore list doesn't seem to have a limit

To be honest, I don't like to bring up veteran reward status for anything, but I still feel I'm within my right to cite veteran status as defence for why I don't want "mega xp"

I mean, seriously. After 69 months, what am I gonna' get for powerlevelling a level 28 Mastermind OF A SET I HAVEN'T PLAYED BEFORE?

When I get tells like that, I usually tell them, "no", and when they get snarky about it, I keep asking, "Why?"

Eventually they get sick of me and leave, which was the intent.

But I also agree that vet status =/= game skill. For all I know, they're a gold farmer who's been around since beta.

i recall in broadcast last night someone saying 69 badge vet mm ds/something looking for team .

in cap au diable O.o

Meh... Sounds like he was inviting you to a farm anyway.

I don't care if they give Mega XP. Farms just don't sound fun. I mean, the word "farm" itself evokes images of tedium.

In any case, he had no right to call you a noob for refusing a team. O_o That just makes him both smug, and stupid.

sure the person had the right he/she is paying a subscription fee and the rules don't state otherwise at least i don't think they do .

but come on now the guy calling him a noob and him being a 69 badge vet the irony alone that's hilarious.

I would have replied with ' whats XP'...?

No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...
"The potato goes in the FRONT."

On 2nd thought, I would've joined his team. Went in all excited, then after a mob or two I would make a big deal about how this is pathetic XP's
I was making twice this much before I joined you..

and then I'd quit and vanish. Leaving the 'Newb' wondering what this massively amazing farm I have is...

All subsequent /tells for info would be ignored naturally.

I was a n00b yesterday for not wanting to do Frosty with + 5 mobs, at level 8... Such a ridiculous n00b I am.

Vet badges don't matter, you can have many of them and still be a n00b.

The fact that you felt compelled to reply with snark (as opposed to being the better man and simply dropping it after the second reply) AND also to come running to the forums to post about it (like people care) doesn't quite make you noob, but it's a bit on the obnoxious side indeed.

It's not an obnoxious side effect of me being a noob, though. It's an obnoxious side effect of me being a wise-cracking ******** with a penchant for posting odd experiences.

Like that time someone called me out of the aether with the words "bridge?" or the time someone gave me... What was it? Something like "join brute 45". What And, yeah, I made a thread for both.

Just on a slight note about the "snark" thing, by the way. My first response was "No, thank you." and my second response was "Precisely." as in that's exactly what I'm saying. It wasn't until the guy kept chewing me out that my THIRD response was snark. And, really, I'm not exactly the sort of person to just say nothing, unfortunately.

Pinnacle, actually, but considering I've been seeing it trailing Virtue and Freedom recently, it might be a population thing.
