True, we don't know everything, but the one thing we 60-monthers DO know is what we like

Sam, you 69-month vet noob. You turned down not only mega-xp, but also the opportunity to school a true noob in the English language! For shame.

Heh.

Sam, your OP convinced me I need to call the next sommelier I see a n00b for not funneling his wares.

I tend to play dumb as well in cases like this.

Guy?: "would u like some mega xp?"
Me: "Mega Xenomorphic Parasites? Have they finally added those to the game?"
Guy?: "wut"
Me: "Oh, you were attempting to contact a player or character with an initial of U? I'm afraid you've sent a Tell to the wrong player. Sorry."

That usually puts a stop to it pretty quickly. I'm not sure if I've confused them so profoundly that they don't try to continue, or they just figure I'm not worth the trouble.

You know, Sam, you can turn XP gain off in game now. So my replay to the above question would have been:

[Tell] -->Guy?: No, thank you. I have XP gain turned off.

Who knows what he would have said to that.

These types of players can't be communicated with sensibly. I'm only a year old (as of yesterday!), but trying to explain myself to L50-obsessed grinders lost its appeal sometime during my first three months, around the time MA debuted.

As a habit, my first response to tells like this is always to click on their name and click "Ignore spammer", and it makes the game so much more enjoyable!

I would have said no as well.

I don't think I would have responed after the "No, thank you."

Well if a 69 month vet is a noob....what am I a lowly 12 month vet? Seriously though, I farm enough with my fire/kin troller and EA/SS brute (both 50's) and I actually LIKE doing the content with my other alts..... I've had random tells asking me if i want to run +4/x8 missions on my alts and whenever i say no thanks i tend to get "rude-ish" tells back.

Hell just last night I had a lvl38 blaster send a tell to my lvl50 stone tank saying I had to PL him cause i was a 50, I replied with the fact I was doing SSTF4 with a full team so couldn't then got screamed at in tells to invite him to the tf or he'd make me pay.....
At that point I'd just had enough and because I don't like to ignore people due to being a mod on one of our global channels I had to go on hide, even then I was still getting offline messages from the guy which were pretty rude.

*sigh* the mentality of some players hey?

That's... Wow. That's a lot worse than I got. My guy was an idiot, more in the condescending sense that you could just laugh at. What you got is rather a lot worse.

And, yeah - where does this notion that level 50s HAVE to powerlevel lower-level characters belonging to total strangers? Even if we get past the controversy of powerlevelling and accept that it's normal up and powerlevel total strangers, why do people view that as a DUTY? Is it some kind of logic that your 50 OBVIOUSLY got powerlevelled, and OBVIOUSLY by some charitable individual, so now you owe it to society to give back?

Even if I believed that, it's kind of hard to accept a charitable motivation coming out of a foul mouth.

This. I did a lot of farming during the first release of AE honestly, and while it is convenient now and then, I honestly prefer to level the good old fashioned way via radios or story arcs. People who call other people rude names because they decline a team invite or want to do something differently are usually an insta ignore for me. Most often, I get this when I mention to hardcore PvPers that I'm an RPer. It always sorta baffles me.

Rather than hiding, you should have put them on ignore, or even better, reported their behavior. That certainly qualifies as harassment. I would say it's in the best interests of everyone to do that, too. I've had people ask to be PL'd, but never abusively. We do not need to see that kind of behavior spread.

Was he drunk? And on Drugs?

I mean seriously. Okay, I get that some people have a weird mentality about the game to say the least. But to send a tell to a complete stranger and demand that they PL you just cuz they are a level 50. That defies any sort of logic I can come up with for "weird" mentalitys. And to threaten you on top of it.

I don't know, sounds to me like the guy was drunk or on drugs or Both. But that's seriously messed up.

Wait, Will Mega XP combine with the Ultra XP and Dragon XP to make the Ultra-Mega-Dragon XP?

It's better than that. He was threatening because he:

A) wasn't invited to a full team

B) wasn't invited to a full team in the middle of a Task Force

C) wasn't invited to a full team in the middle of a Task Force with a minimum level requirement much higher than the character he was playing.

Sam, you're giving these 'people' far too much credit. They don't care how you got to 50. They don't care about anything other than themselves. You can help them get what they want faster, ergo, you must do it for them, and you must like it.

Luckily in CoX we can /ignore, we can go play on another server, etc. Unfortunately we don't have those tools in real life.

as i said in my post i don't ignore due to the simple fact that im a mod on a global channel and like to keep an eye on things in that channel, hidings a much better option in this case.

But any case i do tend to get these tells a lot no matter what sort of 50 im on. Hah even today on a lvl 23 i got asked by a lvl 1 in atlas to PL him...i seem to attract newbs.... *sigh*

This reminds me of probably my favourite line from the Lost Vikings 2: "Olaf is as Olaf does. Get used to disappointment."

But what I mean is I just don't get it. What possesses a person to have that kind of "GIMME!" mentality? How can a person like that function in civilised society? Is it the spoiled brat of some rich businessman who threatens to fire everyone who back-talks his kid? Because that kind of attitude just doesn't get you anywhere, and is actually liable to get you backhanded on more than a few occasions.

There has to be some reason why a person would develop this kind of attitude. And I've actually seen it, myself. Not quite as bad as the long-suffering poster in question, but I've had head-scratching instances. Something like, and I'm not quoting because it was years ago:

Tell: Powerlevel me.
->Tell: I'm sorry, I don't do powerlevelling.
Tell: Why?
->Tell: I don't enjoy it.
Tell: Please?
->Tell: Sorry, but no.
Tell: Please, I really need to get to 50!

And so on and so forth. I've had at least one conversation that went something like that, where the other person wasn't really belligerent, just... Confounding. But this was more me wondering why you'd approach a stranger asking for a favour and then be surprised when you're turned down, and to the guy's credit, he did eventually leave it alone without becoming angry. Just disappointed, I guess.

Still not as dumbfounding as the guy who butted into my fight, then stood in front of me and said "please give me money" in local.

Bad upbringing and being enabled by others.

By being so annoying lazy people give them what they want to make them shut up and go away. I see attempts on a weekly basis here at the hotel where I work. That crap doesn't work on me, but they've had it work enough other places that they try (really, what do they have to lose?).

Nope, these kinds of jerkwads come from all kinds of different backgrounds.

Orly?!

In my area, it's pretty much like sticking your hand in a bucket of skittles to find the right color.

Here's what I mean: In a specific area where I work, the teens are generally well behaved. Especially compared to other areas I've been in. While some might feel entitled, most of the kids are pretty self policed.

Now on the other hand, things get way more fun when you get one of those cases of self entitled, cynicle old folk. Just the other day I was waiting in line at a Sprint Customer Service and Repair Center. Some scary looking older woman walked in, wasn't even in the line for three minutes when she barged over to the back of the room and started giving the employees crap about how they weren't doing their job! They just laughed it off (When she wasn't looking).

The employees may have been short staffed, but they were doing their job and working hard with the tasks they were given.
