I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Maybe something will come up; or.. maybe not. If the worst case comes to fruition, and the end of the year sees us spending our last days in Paragon, after all, I have but one lingering question...
Where to, if and when that time comes?
There are far too many characters, and far too many stories, to let simply fade away, I think. -
In light of the delicious changes coming to Blasters in the upcoming Issue 24, I started looking at Devices as a set to play with again. With the kinds of mechanics we've had introduced in recent powersets, I thought of something for a particularly... awkward... power in the past that I'd like to share!
First, the nitty-gritty:
Timed Charge (Replaces Time Bomb)
Damage: Same as Time Bomb
Recharge: Same as Time Bomb
Range: 10-20 Max
Type: Location-based AoE (Think Rain of Fire, Tar Patch, etc.)
You throw a timed explosive (or small cluster of explosives) at a targetted location. Once set, a countdown timer will begin before this/they explode; causing heavy damage to any enemies caught within it's area of effect. Though they cannot be triggered by enemy fire, you can manually detonate these via remote.
That's the basic idea, anyway. Borrowing from newer powersets, this could work in a couple of ways. The easiest method would simply be for 'Timed Charge' to become 'Detonate Charge' after the power is thrown - though I'm not sure if the tech for that exists. Alternatively, this could work similar to the new 'Burst of Speed' power featured in one of the more recent twitch.tv streams: You use the power once to set the mine/mines; after which it recharges instantly (or within a few seconds, for balance purposes). Using it again will detonate the mine/mines. Whether you remotely detonate them or allow the timer to go off (a visual effect for said timer would be neat, by the way), the power will undergo it's full recharge duration afterwards.
Finally, it could be a 'Swap Ammo' style power that grants you 'Throw Charge' and 'Detonate Charge' - perhaps with a 'Retrieve Charge' power if a third is really necessary. The latter could be a power that simply 'unsets' the mine/mines; with the caveat that removing them in this manner will reset the original power's recharge timer.. perhaps at full; perhaps at only half the duration.
Something like this, I think, would make the power not only more viable as a combat option - but would make it much more fun to use! The only thing I'd be worried about is overshadowing Trip Mine a bit too much. -
Hm. Can't seem to edit my posts. I also have access to my Street Justice toons, as a note.

After lapsing on my most recent payment, I've started unlocking my server slots as a premium account. I've noticed that while I have access to my Beam Rifle characters; I can't access my Time Manipulation ones. Is TM a VIP-only set even after you've purchased it?

Just a note: On the Beta server, the Ascot fits the model as it should. It's listed under Jackets/Trenchcoats/Robes/Shirts > Chest Detail.
-
Note: On the Beta server, the Ascot appears under Chest Details > Jackets/Trenchcoats/Robes/Shirts - and appears as it should on the model.

Female faces 10 and 14 (And Male face 13) are still the only good ones, to my oddball eye. They're the only faces I've used for almost six years, now (mostly Face 10) - and they're the only ones I'll ever use, if this current trend continues.
But to be fair, I thought the 'old new faces' were awful, too. Steampunk and newer are just magnitudes worse. -

Quote:Oh! I completely forgot about the power supply. Here's what I'm currently using:No less than 1 GB for that size monitor, 2 would be better if you can swing the price diff. Check to make sure your power supply can handle the new one. FatherXmas has ya on the right track.

Quote:I'm going to recycle as much of the old one as I can, so more of a piecemeal rebuild if anything. I tend to pick up upgrades here and there until I've wound up rebuilding the thing over a long period of time.Building a new box or recycling some of the old one?
Here's a rough sketch, because it's late.
CPU - 3.3GHz i5-2500K;
Motherboard - Either a P67 or Z68 to allow overclocking of the K series CPU;
Memory - DDR3-1600 looks to be the sweet spot in pricing, around $10 a GB;
Video - I would say the GTX 560Ti has pretty good bang for the buck (around 30% faster).
Edit: 1GB or 2GB on the video card, y'think? These all look reasonably priced - and confirm my suspicion that I've hit the point where a real upgrade on anything is going to be in the $200-300 range. -
It's been a while, but I think it's time to see what kind of upgrades I can make to the ol' gaming machine. You folk were enormous helps the past two times - so let's have another go at it to mark a third!
As usual, I'm more interested in 'cost-effective workhorse' over 'newest, shiniest, brand-name component'. Looking at it, the parts I've currently had the longest are the hard drive, the sound card, and the graphics card - so those might be places to peek.
Here's my current build:
Monitor: 28" HNC @ 1920 x 1200
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 896MB
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 Gb/s
RAM: 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3 / 2 x Kingstom HyperX 2GB DDR3
Processor: Intel Core i5-750 2.66 Gig (OC'd at 3.40)
Motherboard: MSI Intel P55 ATX Motherboard
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Cooling: Cooler Master 212 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" + 2x 250mm side fans, 2x 120mm fans on the Heatpipe, 1x 120mm fan in the back.
For the most part, I'm just eking out better performance for CoX at the higher settings (About the only settings that bog me down currently are high FSAA and Ambient Occlusion with Color Bleed - so I avoid those); especially while recording (which has been a non-issue, now that I reduce my resolution to whatever aspect ratio I intend to record with). -
And 1080p, at last!
I've enjoyed testing the set so much that I just couldn't help myself. Here's hoping Titanic Weapons proves just as fun to use!
Apologies for the hitch of framerate drop shortly into the video - I'm not quite sure what happened, there. -
This should be either a titled event, or the standard greeting for new players. Or both!
"How the pancake you doin'? Welcome to CoX!"
... or "How the pancake you doin'? How's about I show ya the two scoops around here?" -
Quote:The latter was never implemented, sadly.I just bug reported on live, a day or three ago about zooms.
Zooming in on the head fails, zooming in on the torso fails, zooming in/out with wings when choosing a wing itself fails. zooming in on boots fails but may never have been implemented (i cant remember).
Now I'll check test and report which of these are still broken if any...
- Zooming in/out on faces - Working
- Zooming in/out on torso - Working
- Zooming in/out on wings - Working
- Zooming in/out on weapons - Working
- Zooming in/out on lower body - Working
- Zooming in/out on boots - BROKEN (or never implemented)

Quote:Hmh. SHirts might work well.. though I'd personally like to see the jacket torso model re-worked; and the jackets re-fit to match that. It'd be an awful lot of work - but it drives me absolutely batty that almost all of the jackets (barring the re-worked military vest) add several cup sizes to the chest, and make the rest of the torso much more bulky. It makes sense for something like a suit jacket with stiff shoulders, but it's still aesthetically irritating. For me, anywho.they probably can't for the base model as they'd have to have the model swap out with a correct breast one when the steampunk jacket was chosen, then they could use the correct breast steampunk tops with that selection (locking out the other deformed ones) and keep the deformed ones for other jackets (locking out the non deformed ones).
Personally, and I do understand that these are technically jackets, they should have put them in the shirts category. The chest is shaped fine there from what it seems (using lod as a way to see chest without shirt) and it would give access to sleeves+almost all gloves too, which is impossible in jackets and jackets w/o sleeves. Or they could have put them in unique tops, like the toga or something. -
I'm not sure if they *can* fix that, since it's the default model for the Jackets category. It's why Jackets fit the odd way they do.
-
The launcher doesn't seem to recognize that there's a new patch on Test; unless the server is still down and undergoing the patching process.

Quote:You know, I didn't even think to look and see which head category the pre-set outfit uses.Yes, I was using the Standard /default Victorian Costume Set for my observation, and did not remember that there is the tiniest jacket which is a jacket anyway. Point taken, observation withdrawn, indeed it is a sieve and leaks like one.
As for the Victorian Choker with/without Cameo -- I didn't touch a thing with the premade Costume Sets. If they were standard head, they were standard, and if they were with hats or helmets, that's the way I tried them. If that's a known problem, well, I didn't know itI don't read the test or beta forums. I barely make it here.
Glad to know that this was seen and apparently reported earlier.
And yes, the next costume bonanza had better be ginormous to excuse these sorts of oopsies sliding onto Live.
Thanks
To the tailor!
Edit: Okay! So, the 'Classic Steampunk' preset uses the 'Hat' category - and the choker doesn't show up with it. The 'Victorian Steampunk', however, uses the Standard category - which is why it shows up on that one.
Edit: Nudge to Zwillinger: While you're over there, I don't suppose you could inquire about the 'Clockwork' chest decal clipping with larger chest sliders for the female models, could you? -
Quote:Checked. First point doesn't hold water. The corset clips no matter *what* you start with. The only thing I can think of is that you were looking at the base set itself - which adds the Victorian Jacket, as well. The corset doesn't clip with jackets or trenchcoats - that's what was 'fixed'. In the process, however, it began clipping with the body under every *other* category. Thanks for restarting his thread.
Additional stuff about the Victorian chest detail: if you start a new alt using the Victorian Costume Set there is no clipping on the corset.
Now, how about the "Here Today/ Gone Later Today?"
Female
* Added choker without cameo
Originally I was going to post a note about not finding that choker, but while double checking the path (using the premade Victorian Steampunk Costume Set - it's in Head/Details2) it was there! Suddenly! Okaaay... SO I decide to remodel one of my characters with it - and it's gone.
Now that's interesting. I fiddle about in the costume creator -
If I start with the female Victorian Steampunk Costume Set, I have access to the Choker without cameo (Victorian Steampunk 02) as well as the original (Victorian Steampunk 01). But I can't get the new Choker without the cameo if I am using one of my 'custom' costumes. And who doesn't use all-custom costumes?.
I checked the other Costume sets - some have access to both chokers, and some have access to only one. And Classic Steampunk Costume set only has access to the original choker(!). Was the new choker without the cameo given a different 'status' than the original choker, so it's deemed incompatible with certain costume pieces?
Supposedly, this has been fixed internally and simply not yet patched.
With Victorian COllar 02... I was able to bring this up whether I started with the Victorian set or not. Are you trying to use it with any category other than Standard for the heads? Because it shows up under Standard - but is known (supposedly, again) to be missing from every other category.
I hope our costume folk are working on something *really* big to have let these kinds of things slide.
Edit: FPARN! It only took six years to pop *that* cherry. -
Quote:I posted a thread on this in the Training Room forums about a week ago, as it so happens: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=263845I went about four pages back in time and found the old "Bugs with the Steampack" thread, but figured that a lot of those should have been fixed and so resurrecting that wasn't useful. So I thought I'd make a new one.
So far, I have only one bug to report. Though the Victorian chest piece for women appears to indeed have been fixed so it doesn't clip with jackets, it now clips with the character's breasts, and in a rather ugly manner. I don't think I've nudged the chest slider too high on this character (in fact, I think it's below middle - she's supposed to be a kid), but even so the chest piece clips with her chest just below her clavicles.
I haven't had time to play around with the rest of the options quite yet, so I couldn't tell you if anything else is wrong, but I figure if it is, we should collect those in the same thread like before.
Also, as it so happens, I PM'd Noble Savage about this not long after that. He said that the Art Team had fixed it, internally. It didn't make the patch after that - nor does it appear to have gone with the push Live. We ought to be seeing it somewhat soon-ish, in either case. I hope!
