Seems to me, and with Criminal Minds as well, that they're focusing more on the characters in the last year or so than the plot, which is what I'm really interested in. Having some character development is fine, but it might be taking up too much screen time these days. I really felt that way with the latest Criminal Minds episode: they came in to the location, pondered for a short time, made the correct assumptions in a few minutes, then went door busting. Do they ever bust into the wrong person's house? It was just too quick and done. NCIS puts in a few more twists and turns, but not many.

Oh, and did anyone else stand up and cheer when Gibs punched out the pedophile?
  2. Yeah, same here. I got a lot of news of the geek-kind here as I don't go to a lot of websites (very few in fact). I didn't have to with this forum.
  3. And once again, unions destroy a business.

I used to work for Eastern Airlines. Lucky for me that the computer division was separated out before that and we still had jobs.

"We cannot work too hard, else the company will not hire more people to pay union dues". - pretty much sums up what a former co-worker (he had transferred to the computer division where I was working) found out when working in the hangar by actually doing the work he was assigned in the time frame given.
  4. I don't even consider CS when deciding to play a game. I'll play what I want, and if a problem shows up I'll generally just "suck it up" although I will search the internet for possible fixes or explanations. Guess I've been lucky as I've rarely had stuff lost in games. You might check if your DOFF (Duty Officers) assignments might have eaten up lost inventory items.

I've been playing STO for a month now, mostly for free except for a $10 time card. I levelled up a Fed character to 50 (cap), and a Klingon character (they start at level 20 after you unlock the option) to level 50. I've maxed the Klingon's ship with Mk XI purple weapons and equipment, haven't bothered to go for the uber Mk XII stuff you have to grind for (all for a < 1% increase in performance? I'll spend my time on doing fun stuff instead of grinding the boring "raids").

I haven't found the restrictions to be much, although hearing from some subbers that they couldn't live with them (example: "I cry when I'm below 20 million"). *shrug*

The 10 million EC (energy credits) limit hasn't been an issue for me as the most I've had at any one time is 5 million EC, twice, each time spent for a Fleet Ship Module (you need 4 for a high end ship option, that $10 bought the other two).

Inventory and bank limits haven't been a problem, either.

Naw. Have you seen him lately? I liked him in Firefly and Castle, but he's not the thin and young dashing guy he was during Firefly. He could get back in shape, but I doubt it will happen. He's Malcom Reynolds, not Hans Solo.

    I hope this is sarcasm.

This is already in the game, see: Incarnate abilities.
  7. (about the 3rd or 4th time I've said this on other threads)

    Yes. Any way, any how.

Community? The one that bites you if you happen to disagree with the popular opinion? It's overrated, I won't miss it. PUGs? Won't miss those, either.

Does not have to be any development, the game is fine as is. But any development would be okay, even if slow in coming.

I do hope it's the current live version, or perhaps an issue back is okay.
I would love the i24 version that's on beta for all my blasters (and the IO changes.. superpacks aren't necessary).

    ditto.

And I do make my own arcs in AE. I would like more map options, or a map editor (one can dream, right?), but it is an option.
  9. Super heroine, secret agent, street warrior, future-tech alien, weapon-wielding barbarian, she has been many an alt of choice for over a year, I just want to play my foxgirl with a cute swishy tail.

For playing a human I've tried CO and DCUO recently and CO seems to be the front runner there for super heroics.

I'd love to play in a science-fiction setting that's more sandbox oriented, as well as person and not SHIP (e.g., Eve) oriented. Maybe I'll give STO a try sometime after November. My other option, although I suck at being a game master, is running a pen & paper scifi RPG (fav: Traveller).
  10. Something I forgot about...

An official forum does not need to exist. Several third party websites (why 3rd party? Who's the 2nd party?) exist now and such could work as a forum as well. But I guess the cost to have an offficial website & forum is minor compared to the cost of everything else?
  11. I just want to keep playing the game.

I would not mind no new development; it would be nice to have but it is not necessary.

I would not mind if I have to start over with new characters.

I would not mind if the player population is low. I tend to solo anyway.

I would pay a monthly fee. I am doing.. er, was doing that anyway.

So, if someone is negotiating for a (semi-) private server, I would like to play.
  12. I hope beta can stay up until the (hopefully not) the end. If so, I'll be spending most of my time there playing my blasters.
  13. Sunbeam, on Champion server (of course), since she was originally a character I created for a Champions RPG game in 1992, and lived again in another campaign somewhen in the late 90s.

    Drawn image from 1992:

Current look in the City of Heroes:

    Her bio:
Kelly Ann Powers grew up wanting to be a fighter pilot like her father, but her admission application to the USAF Academy was rejected. After graduating high school she was taking flying lessons and her fiery crash landing was caught on video. The flight instructor was sent to the hospital with severe burns while Kelly was unhurt.

The video caught the attention of a fashion magazine editor which started Kelly's career as a fashion model. Her swimsuit calender was a big hit and put her on the verge of supermodel status. But her manifesting mutant powers convinced her of her true destiny to help fight the rising evil. She joined a superhero team in Miami and after they disbanded came to Paragon City.

When not fighting the bad guys, Kelly attends classes at the prestigious Nebula University majoring in International Law.
  14. I roamed Steel Canyon and Perez Park a bit. PP was my virtual nature hike since I live in no-parks-around-here suburbia; that and jungle girls are one of my favorite "super" hero types. I really would have liked a few story arcs that fit a jungle/woodsy-type character.
  15. I'm not going to miss the RNG, it hated me .. .
  16. I wasn't planning to delete any more than I would usually.
  17. *bows*

All hail our new SOE overlords!

    .....

wut? It hasn't happened, yet? ... oh, nevermind.

  18. They'll be doing whatever they normally do, only without me guiding them.

They still live, in my imagination. Some may get reprised in other games, whether that is online or tabletop RPGs.

    One note, though:
Sienna Fox: an alien, one of many that survived their spaceship crash, will finally get to go home when another of their spaceships finally finds them stranded here on Earth. (I've already written her up in Traveller RPG terms as she isn't a super but uses high-tech gear).
