Cathedral of Pain anyone?

They actually just mentioned something about it at the panel Q&A at PAX. I'm watching them again to point you to the right one, but here's a list of both Q&A videos and the slideshow presentation:

Follow-up Q&A:

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwNxqP0qKxA

In the first Q&A video at the 7 minute mark is where they address Base raiding, IoP and CoP, though there is no time frame for it.

If I18 is the companion to Going Rogue (a la Along Came a Spider for CoV), and I19 is Incarnates, we might get the CoP again in Issue 20 or 21. (Although admittedly it'd be sweet to have it crop up in 19 - not only do we become gods, but we get to FIGHT gods. Hells yeah.)

I don't care about the Cathedral of Pain. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Did you totally miss that they said there's no timeframe for it, in which case where are you pulling Issue 20 or 21 from?

It's a hope, not an assertion. With luck and once the resources devoted to GR are freed up, maybe the devs can finally go back and go, "okay, we've got the time and manpower, can we do this properly?". If they're really hoping to open up endgame content, revisiting the CoP might qualify as suitably bada** epic.

But I could be wrong.

I ran the Cathedral of Pain while it was live; it was just a really hard trial. With the right resources, it was done in 15 minutes (of course, you had to gather 20 people to run it with). The big deal about it was the Items of Power, which got you great bonuses that could stack (you could have multiple IOPs in a single base) and were given to everybody in the supergroup (so they would be a great supergroup recruiting tool).

If the Cathedral of Pain is brought back with the bases in the current state (ie. not raidable) then it's unlikely it'll grant any item of power, so it's all up to what reward it's replaced with. Merits are the obvious choice.

the cathedral of pain trial was supposed to be a supergroup tf in which up to 3 full teams could participate, they would be ported into a section of the shadow shard where they would have 1 hour to complete the objectives.

upon completing the objectives they would then be awarded 1 item of power (for more info on items of power: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Items_of_Power)

when the item of power was placed into the base, it would give a bonus to everyone in the supergroup (for bonuses are also located in link above)

however, placing an item of power in the sg base also put a "raidable" tag on your base so that poeple could challenge your sg to a raid so they could try stealing the item of power

i honestly would love to have the cathedral of pain trial, the only thing i DONT want is to tie it to base raids (i dislike pvp and therefore dislike base raids, partially for the pvp and partially cause i dont want to have to rebuild my dang base after every raid)

some of the items of power have good bonuses too (look for the monument of iron or fury monument)

Cathedral of Pain was supposed to be pvp raid junk that Jack promised and never delivered on. Not surprising--he talked about a LOT of stuff. Super Secret Out of Combat Skills System and Incarnates were things supposed to be 'next issue' up until I quit for a long time (lolpvp Arena Issue until I saw a CoV box on a store shelf later and remembered CoH was a fun game).

SuperGroup stuff in general has just been shoved off the plate, though.

It would be interesting to see it brought in as a new multi-group PvE thing, but considering the zones start to lag bad when you've got a lot of heroes pounding on dozens or hundreds of enemies...Rularuu were pretty nasty enemies, which means more fun. Eyeballs would eat all these softcap defense-based tanks, brutes scrappers and stalkers alive. Hax accuracy.

Never ran it myself, but my wife and many members of our former SG did. And yeah, at one point they had it down to a science and could finish a CoP mission in about 20 minutes or so. That ALSO meant that we had a nice group of Items of Power which various players would "ooh" and "ahh" over and want you on their team because your bonuses would become theirs too.

So to the previous poster who said that the CoP didn't "seem like that big of a deal", it was no bigger deal than any trial or event or TF...except for the bragging rights. Those seemed to be worth fighting for. Maybe CoX could use a little shot of something like that again.

Yeah, I think I'd like to the the CoP trial come back as was.

Personally, I don't think we'll ever see the CoP again. It'll just be another one of those things the devs never get around to.

I think it's a matter of honor now for them - and professional pride - they'll want to give us some version of it

For me, it's because I really want to join a SG, but I don't want to be made to feel like I am just a Prestige jump for the SG owner. In this day and age of the game, I really don't see much value in a place to store my stuff (Vault, WW) and travel is so easy (Mission TP, Oroborus), having teleporters to every zone is no big draw either. I want there to be some real benefit for me as a member even if its a small buff or added drops or what have you, it would be something I could oly get from being part of an SG. Showing off someone elses base-building skills just doesn't cut it.

Maybe it could be an NPC raid by Rularuu to try and get the IoP back? Like they'd manage to open a dimensional portal in your base from the Shadow Shard.

So they have something to complain about?

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Joining the string of solid "meh"s in this thread from several posters.

I'm not in big SGs, nor do I want to be. I never want to see a raid touch my bases (yes, that's plural, I have 5).

My SGs are 3 person groups who will never be able to gather 20 or so people for a single raid. If I want mega raids that need to be that organized, I will sign up for WoW. The vaguely organized chaos that is a Mothership raid is about my speed, or the max-size TF/SF team of 8.

I also agree that it's a point of honor for the Devs so we will eventually se "something" - but it can't possibly live up to the eager anticipation that people keep trying to build up here in the forums.

I'm in a huge SG and didn't get to run it for the 30 seconds it was live, so yes, I'm quite interested.

Bring it back, PvP and all (although I liked GG's NPC raid idea as an alternate to that)!

Dec out.

There was a lot of (justified) complaining about this, along with suggestions that the members need not all be from the same SG, but just in coalition. If they can manage that, that would be nice.
