  1. Hype is a two way street. It takes a hype generator and a hype receiver to truely be hype with a capital H. I find it really easy to not care at all about any hype. I think other people should consider doing the same, especially if the "hype" is making them unhappy in some way.

My friends and I have taken letting him follow us and trying to keep him alive as long as we can. Someone called it the "Impy mini-game". Best we've done so far is to keep him alive until Romulous had rezzed twice. It makes things quite a bit more challenging.

Can you tell we've run the ITF a few too many times?

  4. Slightly off topic, but I (an American) once had an Australian girl say the following to me. "Can I pinch a chip off ya, mate?".

It was a bit frightening, to be honest.
  5. I've always found that blaster are quite strong at lower levels, it's at higher levels when there are more mezzing enemies that they become more challenging.

The truth is, it's impossible to say what sort of impact this is all going to have in the long-term, because the developers aren't telling us what their basic design strategy is for the franchise. And they ain't likely to, either. At least not in a way that isn't empty, lawyer-vetted market-speak.

I don't see much value in getting upset about potential future developments that I have no control over, no information about, and may or may not happen.

I have plenty of things to get upset about that did or are actually happening. I don't feel any need to add anything to that list, and I don't very well understand why anyone else is interested in doing so either.

I have no problem, however, with some well reasoned suggestions for future development priorities, in the right context. So instead of freaking out, I'd love it if we can move the conversation in different direction.
  7. What benefit does NCSoft get for leading the charge against "censorship" or "political correctness" in this context? I can see all kinds of potential down sides, but I am not seeing the up side.

If I were advising the CEO of NCSoft, I would advise him to ban any word that might be offensive and get as far away from this controversy as possible. After all, his job is to make money for the shareholders, not to get into a totally irrelevant controversy over whether cracker is offensive or not.
  8. The Incarnate stuff has had minimal effect on my playstyle. The only change is that it's given me one more thing to think about when I decide to log in. I've been playing my 50s more because there's more for them to do, but I'm still doing everything I was doing before i19 came out, just at a slower pace.

I refuse to be in a hurry to get anywhere in an MMO, and I refuse to do anything that feels like "grind" to me. When I start feeling like I am grinding, then it's time to log out and read a book. And if everything feels like "grinding" then it's time to take a break from the game.

I never will understand why people continue to use their leisure time to do something they aren't even enjoying.
  9. There's a current bug or feature or whatever that allows people to get 10 merits when their team plants a bomb even if they don't have the Member of Vanguard badge. That probably explains the 40 merits.
  10. I started a 3 or 4 weeks after the game went live when some of my friends talked me into it. I made an AR/Dev blaster on Freedom called Targeteer. Then I realized that all my friends were actually all playing on Victory. Whoops. Targeteer still sits on Freedom stuck at level 2 forever more.

My first character on Victory was an Ice/Ice Blaster named Magic Flake that was my first 50 and my first incarnate.
  11. I don't have the attention span to worry about stuff that might happen in a year or two. I have enough trouble worrying about what's going to happen in the next 5 minutes.
  12. Around the time the information for the new issues comes out is the period of greatest hysteria this board ever sees. I'm tempted to take a week off from the forum to let things die down.
  13. My advice is, if you are just starting to look at IO sets, don't start with purples.

It's amazing how much you can improve your build with a relatively cheap application of Thunderstrike, Crushing Impact, Doctored Wounds, Red Fortune and the like.

If, after you fool around with the affordable stuff, you find that you are having fun and still want to do more with your build, then you can step up to the higher priced stuff.
  14. I rarely do anything that might be described as farming, but I like farmers. They fill up the market with stuff, which makes it easier for me use marketeering to make money.
  15. I agree. He's fairly easy to solo with some combination of ranged attacks (which make it a lot easier to deal with the bifurcations), slows, holds, confuse or knockback/knockdown. He's can be significantly more difficult to solo with a melee character.

Having soloed him on a number of characters, I would expect the easiest would be something like an ice blaster or a controller/corrupter/defender with slow powers and the hardest would be a melee character with minimal knockdown/back. A slow moving low damage character like the stone/stone tank mentioned above might be the hardest of all.

How hard is APP customization? We don't know, obviously, but it looks like it would require a pretty big change to the flow of character creation to me. As it stands now, you can customize any power your character will have in his/her primary or secondary at creation. The question is, what kind of changes will be needed at character creation to make it so that you can customize pool powers you might or might not take? It would probably involve new character creation screens or variations of techology that don't currently exist at character creation to get this done.

Don't get me wrong, I want this too. I've just never been convinced it's going to be easy. It actually looks like a pretty big change.

Standard code rant applies, of course.

Didn't take long at all to get a team of six together. After everyone made introductions, we found that no one on the team had ever run Silver Mantis. That made for a very interesting and extremely fun TF. Not sure how long this TF generally runs, but we finished in about 90 minutes. It was awesome having to strategize through each mission as apposed to just following the orders of someone who has run it 15 times in the same day. I imagine this is what the game felt like in the beginning.
That sounds like fun. But seriously, you went out used the tools provided in the game to organize a team that did what you wanted, and you had a good time. That's not how it's done. You are supposed to whine and complain about how terrible everything is and take no responsibility yourself. I think you are also supposed to threaten to quit.

Thumbs up to the Goat for the Fremont Troll picture.
  22. Almost all purple sets are give you great bonuses for recharge, recovery and a few other useful things, but don't give you anything in the defense area.

So, if you really benefit from recharge (like a dom), the more purple sets the better. If you are trying to get your defense up you might not want any purple sets at all. Purples aren't a "must" for all good builds, that's for sure.
  23. Reviews are strange things anyway. It's really just one man's opinion, so there's a good chance that no matter what method he uses to review games, a lot of people are going to disagree with him a lot of time.

Funny is sort of the same. Some people are going to find his thing funny, some people aren't.

Really there's no way he can please everyone, or even close.

Personally, I think he's got a lot of good points and he's pretty funny. It's likely there are plenty of people who would disagree.
  24. I think there's something wrong with this thread. It's all full of useful information about the game, with no flaming, trolling or threats to quit. I think it might be a sign of the end times.
